Pets vacuum cleaner

Hi!

I am looking forward to buy a new vacuum for pet hair, but haven't decided yet. After hours and hours looking around the web I found many vacuum cleaners, yet all seem good enough. I don't need something expensive (I just have 4 cats, they shed, but not a lot - probably a lot, but..), but I don't mind spending money on quality stuff.

Any ideas?

I use the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Bagless Vacuum. It does a great job at picking up cat and dog hair. The canister fills quickly though, so you might have to empty it a couple of times if you're vacuuming a large area.

Another vote for a Dyson. I know they are pricey, keep a look out for deals.

I have this too and I hate it. I liked it when I first got it with one short haired dog. Then I got my German Shepherd and every darn time I use it the hose gets completely clogged and it's a pain to take it apart to unclog it, and this is with using it every day for only my living room.

Oreck!

I bought one about ten years ago and fell in love with it.

At the time I had 4 dogs and 3 cats. I vacuumed several times a day. When my Oreck came, I did the test by using my other vacuum first. I couldn't believe how much more hair and dirt the Oreck pulled out of what looked like a clean carpet.

A decade later it's still going strong. If it ever breaks, I will replace it with the same.

I had two Golden Retrievers when I purchased the Dyson Animal about 7 years ago. It is pricey, but works great. It has the detachable "wand" which allows you to do stairs, under the couch, ceiling corners etc. I have only two complaints: it is very heavy and it doesn't use a bag so it's messy to empty. My sister also has hairy dogs and uses an Oreck. It works great as well, and is very light. She doesn't like the fact that it doesn't have the wand. However, when she purchased her Oreck she got a free Oreck mini canister vac that she can use on her stairs, etc. You can't go wrong with the Dyson Animal or the Oreck, it just depends on how you plan to use it. If you have to carry it up and down stairs frequently, I would recommend the Oreck because the Dyson is so heavy. If my Dyson ever dies, I plan to replace it with an Oreck because I want something lighter.

I also love the Shark Navigator. I bought mine several years ago and it still works well. Recommended it to my M-I-L and both D-I-L's. They all got one and love it too. I have a long haired shih tzu that doesn't shed much, but a short haired Akita who sheds enough that I could easily make a full body wig for the shih tzu from just his loose hair. lol

Kenmore Progressive Canister vac I have had for 9 years. I have 4 cats and it does a great job. I have had people comment that they can't see any fur in our home. Comes with a great motorized attachment for doing furniture and stairs.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that because its a canister vac I can vacuum clear under my bed, behind the headboard easily.

@Kae I've been searching for Hoover windtunnel P.A.W.S. and it seems nice. Can I ask if the wheels are made of rubber? I've read that a similar model Hoover WindTunnel T-Series has rubber wheels. Thanks!

@mndisneylovinmom - I've read a lot about Dyson animal vacuum cleaner, but also about Dysons in general. Do you have the one with the ball technology? Aren't they heavy?

I've also done my research on Amazon reviews, and also on some internet sites with vacuum cleaners. I found on this website: Best vacuum for pet hair also some cheaper models of vac cleaners (Black & Decker Dustbuster, Bissell Pet Hair Eraser and more). Do you also recommend a vac cleaner (cheaper ones) used with a vacuum cleaner? I mean, for couch or for my car?


Also, has anyone used automated cleaners like Roomba or Neato? They seem super expensive, but do all the work themselves, even some recharge and then go back to work. But I don't think they do the job as good as a Dyson, for example. What do you think?

In 18 years, we've burned through every vaccum out there, inckuding an Oreck and a Dyson. We've always had mutlpile dogs and a lage, long haird, furry mess of a cat and I've never had a vaccum live longer than a year.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a darn Kirby. I LOVE IT!!!

We have the dyson animal ball and I love it. I don't find it to be any heavier than any other upright. I don't have stairs so that is not a problem for me. I also don't find emptying it to be messy. You can get a good deal on them at khols and also qvc.

I have 3 cats and one of them is a long hair with OCD who pulls out her fur if she gets upset and I have a Bissel that I bought at Walmart. It has been the BEST vaccum I ever owned. I initially made the purchase because I needed a quick inexpensive repalcement for my Kenmore and ended up getting the best vaccum ever. Infact when my MIL was downsizing and went to a small aparment we got her one because it is so light weight and did such a good job, she commented that it was much better then the expensive vaccum that she had been using. When my daughter moved into her own place we got her one as well and it's help up to her Dog and 3 cats.
It shows out of stock on line but they always have them in the stores- sometimes a little more money but still worth it.

I worked for dyson so I have some advise when buying a dyson whichever model you decide to purchase all dyons models in each category(dc14 dc 22 etc.) have the same suction what makes the difference in the name such as animal is the accessories not the vacuum so if you want to save some money buy the standard dyson (yellow)with limited accessories

We had a Newfoundland and we were replacing vacuum cleaners almost every year (Hoover, Shark, Kenmore...). We finally switched to an Oreck and have been using this one for 6 years. It's nice because they clean it every year and replace any worn parts for free. We now have a Leonberger puppy so I'm sure it will get the same abuse!
