PLEASE! Whistle while you work …… Update Day 6 - 06/16

Half term vacation 2013, Feb 16 - Feb 24

We had to wait a little and when it was our turn we were asked if we were on a cruise ship and which one. Tom and I just looked at each other, what a question, LOL! We were both wearing DCL shirts, Tom had a CC backpack, I had a DCL Dooney and a money purse with a Mickey on it.
Do you really think we travel on Carnival, lady?
[/COLOR]

How did you NOT bust out laughing? :rotfl2: Oh well, that lady has probably seen every possible dress combination so I'll let her slide.

What a fun way to spend your day in port. I loved to hear about shopping expeditions. I'll have to check out the Bacardi store while I'm there.

Karin I have never seen the Starbucks at Nassau

Hi Karin!
Great updates:thumbsup2 It seems like you are really relaxed on this cruise, and it makes me feel relaxed, just reading it!:goodvibes I'm glad you found your Ana and I'm looking forward to see if you get to eat wtih the Katarina clan for dinner!

Thanks for the info !!I will have Judy check the customs regs !!1Seeing as she works in Custom Brokerage she should be able to find out:rotfl2: Also thanks for the info on the T Shirts too !!I will definatley check them out !! I have been looking at Tours for Nassau as we are allotted money to do one !! I am looking at the Glass Bottom boat and Astoria Gardens and city tour !!Have you done:confused3 either

If I were you I would stick to the tours Disney offers. We have not done any of the tours you consider, but we stuck with them for the first two times. I can give you advice on the Sea and See tour! Do NOT book it. :rotfl2: The sea tour is in a submarine which is NOT air conditioned and it was boiling in that can! Then we were taken to a bus. Now we were travelling with friends and we could NOT all sit together as we had to "distribute the weight evenly" :rotfl2: as otherwise the bus would topple over.
NEVER again! :lmao:
They might have new buses by now, but whenever we walk by the pickup area we laugh about our experience. ;)

We have been on two excursions by Disney and ever since made our way into Nassau on our own. It's very easy to manage the port area on foot. And we have been often enough that we just head to Starbucks for the internet, do some shopping and head back to the ship. :thumbsup2

It is very close to the port, Teresa. If you walk towards the Straw Market it's in one of the side streets. You can see the sign from the street along the port area. :thumbsup2

That is the fun about taking a cruise for us. We get in a really relaxed mood and just go with the flow.
Not to get ahead of myself, but we did have a lot of fun with Katerina and her family that night! :goodvibes

Day 3, February 18

“I’m going to change that for you!” - part 3

We relaxed out on the balcony for a while, before we went to hand out some more Fish Extender gifts.
Upon return of our gift giving walking tour, we sat out on ther veranda again, had a drink

IMG_7672_zps6af5d20d.jpg

and enjoyed the view.

After some time I got the computer on and wanted to check if our new reservation was already on our Castaway Club page.
If you have ever tried to use the ship’s internet, you’ll know just HOW slow it is, now try to use the free ship’s internet, which only lets you access DCL sites. It took ages for the site to load and yeah, the reservation already showed up.
We talked a bit about our newly booked Med cruise and then thought about the room we had booked. It was portside, but would that be the “best” side for us? And after quite some time of thinking and discussing we decided to change from portside to starboard side, less than 24 hours after booking. It was a bit tricky as the site kept stalling and I had to start over again a few times, but in the end we had changed our stateroom.
It was nice outside, even though a little chilly, so we put on our Fantasy sweaters and camera in hand, we headed upstairs to enjoy the open decks.

We walked through the pool area and over to the adult area, up the stairs and to the very front of the ship.

To be continued ...........

It does look like a windy day, still a better day than being home though.
I love the pictures of the tiop of the ship and views of Nassau. I have several that are very similar.

Lovely shots of Nassau and the ship. I have to say that pool looks really crowded despite the winds.

More relaxing....:cloud9: I can't believe it was so cold! I see everyone has jackets on and the wind is blowing. I guess it still wasn't snowing, though, so I'm sure it was still warm to alot of the guests. I can't remember, have you ever gone to the Atlantis resort and toured the aquarium there? It is truly amazing - way different than the usual aquarium. I believe it is free, just a taxi ride over there and they have some great conch fritters to eat!

It was WAY warmer than at home, but kind of breezy on the top deck. And it was definitely warmer than at WDW. :thumbsup2
Funny to hear YOU say you have the same kind of pics of Nassau - that is usually what I say on your TR. :rotfl2:

Try keeping up with both of you :rotfl:

Still here Karin

Sometimes it's hard to keep up, isn't it? But good to know that you are still reading. :goodvibes

Just what I needed! - a Karin update to cure my Monday blues :surfweb:

 Glad I could be of any help, Linda! :thumbsup2

Kathy, the pool, being one deck down is better shielded from the wind, and it was not as cold as it looked, just pretty windy.
We were pleased to see that they have rebuilt some of the buildings that took a had a lot of damage after the summer storms. Nassau looks lovely again, going into port. :thumbsup2

It was VERY relaxing, Tammie. We both needed some time to catch our breath again, after all the stress that led up to the trip.
It was pretty windy on the top deck, but not cold. It snowed at home, so we were in heaven with the temperatures as they were.

Tammie, we have been to the Atlantis and have been to the Aquarium. Not sure if it is really free though. We were on a Disney tour and needed wristbands to go into the aquarium. :confused3

Love all the pictures from the deck. It looks like a perfectly gorgeous day.

Yup - that Mickey pool is small. :rotfl:

It was a nice day, and even though it was windy, it was a wonderful change from the winter temperatures we had just escaped. :thumbsup2

It was a really wonderful day. And I love the atmosphere on the outer decks.

Yes, the pools are small. :lmao: We have only been in the hot tub and the adult pool and then only during first dinner seating/show, so we had both to ourselves. :rotfl2:

It was breezy and a little on the cool side, but it was still fun. We walked all around and went back to the pool area. We were one deck up and watched the movie and the people in the pool. Lots of people in line for the Aquaduck and they really have an eye on the height restrictions. Quick look at our watches and we realized we needed to hurry up, if we wanted to make it to the Captain’s reception in time. So we headed back to our stateroom, freshened up and off we went again, this time down to 687, the sports bar on board.
We arrived right on time and found the bar closed as they were still setting up. One of the officers was standing outside and telling everyone it was just another minute or two. And while we stood to the side, who comes our way, no other than Captain Henry. Needless to say, he commented on our sweaters and we had to tell him that actually they had been a present from our stateroom host. He was pretty impressed with how well we got along with our stateroom host. We exchanged a few sentences and all the while the “PLEASE, whistle while you work” would pop up in my head, but I just didn’t dare to say it. Once they opened the door, we quickly found a nice seat and the officers came to visit.

DSC_0617_zpsae4d9a00.jpg

We met a very nice officer from England who had only been on the DREAM for 4 weeks and Christiaan, the cruise director,

DSC_0618_zps58d90d45.jpg

who we had come to “love” on the Wonder was there as well. We had a really good time chatting and soon the captain took the microphone and talked about the new itineraries

DSC_0619_zps7043d9fd.jpg

and if there were any ideas of where else DCL could sail. The meet lasted for about 35 minutes, than they handed out drinks and offered little snacks,

DSC_0622_zps08533954.jpg

but we could not have a lot, as we had just changed from late dining to early dining. And just before we were ready to head out we had a visitor. Donald came by to say hello to the cruisers and pose for photos.

DSC_0621_zpsb6aab80c.jpg

Unfortunately we were late as it was and we just had enough time to head up to our stateroom to get changed, pick up our jar of Nutella and back we went to have another meal at Animator’s Palate.
We arrived just as they opened the doors and we were led to our table by Ana herself.

IMG_7699_zps6d627df8.jpg

She was glad to finally receive her treats and soon after we had taken our seats and ordered our drinks, Katerina and Jimmy and their son Alex arrived.

IMG_7698_zps4c71aaa3.jpg

This time Tom ordered the

IMG_7687_zpsea322827.jpg

Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes, Pasta purses filled with truffle scented cheese and coated with a delicate champagne sauce, while I ordered the

IMG_7689_zpscd2149ce.jpg

Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini Twist, served with parmigiano-reggiano. Both were equally tasty. Tom had ordered from the “lighter” fare menu and received some

IMG_7691_zps03864a64.jpg

steak, baked potato and veggies for his dinner. I wanted to try Tom’s dinner from the day before, the

IMG_7692_zpsa7625f4c.jpg

Marinated Angus Beef Tenderloin, carved to order on wasabi mashed potatoes with bok choy and tamarind-barbecue reduction. It was really wonderful and Tom enjoyed his steak as well. It was funny as I had a huge problem choosing a dessert, and I really LOVE desserts, but nothing really tickled my fancy. So, while Tom had ordered the

IMG_7697_zpsa9c6b785.jpg

Dense Chocolate Cake, Brownie, caramel sauce and whipped cream, I had told Ana, to please surprise me and she did! When she came back to the table with everyone’s desserts she had picked up desserts from Royal Palace for me, so I got to enjoy the

IMG_7693_zps28d51dae.jpg

Grand Marnier Souffle, infused with fresh orange zest and served with creme Anglaise AND the Tahitian Vanilla Creme Brulee with macaroon. I was not able to finish both, but it was a wonderful treat. Once we had all finished our desserts we said our goodbyes and walked by guest services to pay a little money into our account. Once that was done we headed back to our stateroom for a little rest, before we headed to Skyline to meet Katerina and Dimi for a drink. We all ordered our drinks and sat and chatted and we learned a lot about their Mixology class and their nice bar tender, who was on hand there as well. We stayed for quite some time and around 9.30pm we said our goodbyes and headed back to our stateroom. The Fish Extender was filled again and we took photos of all our new goodies,

IMG_7731_zpse4836ab2.jpg

had a rest and a drink out on the veranda, before we picked up our next Fish Extender gifts and went to hand them out. It took us about an hour to hand them out, given that we stopped and played with the animated art a little. At around 9.30 we were back in our stateroom and decided on an early night. We were both tired and the next day was one we had looked forward to for a long time.

To be continued ...........

Great update Karin! :thumbsup2 We really like the cruise director from the Wonder, Christiaan. We visited with him on CC on our first cruise. After that when he saw us he would call out our names and ask us if we were still having a great time. We just couldn't believe he could remember us after meeting so many people. We were hoping we would see him again on the Dream.

Karin you keep making me even more anxious to get on that cruise !! The food looks wonderful!!It is soo great to actually see the dishes on the menu!! Which of the 3 restaurants is your favorite !!??? Also have you heard anything about the Glass Bottom boat tours or Astoria Gardens tour !!!??

Karin, we have the same purse (the little D&B next to you on the table at AP) - we both have great taste :rotfl:

Thank you, Teresa.
We really liked Christiaan too. Some of his jokes are still a running gag here. :lmao:
Isn't it amazing how some CMs seem to remember their guests? And sometimes it is someone who you just met briefly (like Claudia, who sold us our first drink on the Wonder, then talked to us at CC and I had no idea who she was and she even remembered our names :scared1:)

Rosie, you are going to love DCL! There is lots of yummy food around, just not enough time to eat it all. :rotfl2:
Each of the restaurants has its own charm. I personally enjoy the Royal Palace the most. My least favourite is the favourite of most, it's Animator's Palate. It is SO loud in there, otherwise it would be really nice.

I am no help with the Glass Bottom boat tours or Astoria Gardens, but I believe Jen visited there during her cruise. :goodvibes
