Despite the fact that hotel staff say "Welcome Home", this is not your home - it is a public space that you share with others, so please try and show some consideration for that.

1 - I understand that your children are excited to be at Disney. That is no excuse for you, as their parent, to let them run and scream down the hallways. There is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour for children - this is unacceptable, and I blame you - not them.

2 - Unless you are on the main floor, please do not let your children run, jump or be loud in your room. Teach them that there are people in the room below them who may not appreciate their youthful enthusiasm. If they need to burn off energy, that is what the pools and parks are for.

3 - if you are in the one bedroom side of a lockoff, your kitchen is right next to where others are trying to sleep, and the metal doors between the rooms are not soundproofed. I get that you may have had a fun day at the parks, but I don't want to hear about it at midnight when you come strolling in, nor do I want to hear about it at 5:30 in the morning. Nor are either of those times appropriate for you to load and unload your dishwasher, and to bang silverware and dishes doing so.

Ultimately, let's all try to be respectful and mindful that we're not, in fact, in our own homes and that our behaviour in the hotel directly impacts others.

I understand your frustration, and who hasn't been in your shoes before? Still, I couldn't help but chuckle in remembrance of those times when folks in a room next to mine acted as though they owned the hotel. In particular, the thin walls and floors of HHI come to mind from a half dozen years ago or so. Hope your next trip is better. ;)

I agree with alot of what you just said except for maybe the dishwasher comment. I mean when is acceptable to load and unload the dishwasher then? You have no idea when people may or may not be sleeping near your room and its impossible not to bang things some when loading and unloading.

This tells me that either you are VERY sensitive to sound if normal loading and unloading of the dishwasher is bothering you that much (in all the times I have stayed in DVC I have never heard the noise of the dishwasher from any of the nearby rooms) or that the place you stayed in needs to do a better job soundproofing (as I admit most of my stays have been in one DVC resort so if its resort specific I might not know)

I have kids and I feel your pain. This ties in with that other thread (hot tub) about entitlement and letting your kids run wild just because it's Disney and people think they're "safe".

If it's any consolation, I usually make my kids practice and use their "whisper" voices while in our room, regardless of what time it is. They don't know how loud they can be sometimes.

Sometimes the parents yelling constantly at the kids is worse than the kids themselves.

We always taught that Disney is a place that people travel to from all over the world. You never know when someone has just arrived and might need to sleep all morning to just catch up and be ready to start their trip. The entrance to the hallway was the signal to use the quiet voice. You can still be excited when quiet, in fact its sort of fun when you do a wild, silent cheer. :cool1:

Sorry you had to deal with a lot of noise.

I'm right there with you, possibly except for this one:

At least at OKW, normal levels of conversation are perfectly audible on the other side of the lockout. You don't have to be shouting, and I don't know that it is required that someone whisper between the hours of 10 and 6. This is just bad design of the units.

A design that has been made even worse by the replacement of living room carpet with the vinyl floors. There are no soft goods to absorb the sound from the living rooms.

I was in a studio there once with the people next door so loud it was ridiculous. But I let it go, until someone started throwing a ball against the door. You know, like a kid using the door to play catch by himself.

So I went next door and the family was amazed that I could hear anything - they said they didn't hear ME. Of course not - I was by myself, just there to run the marathon and sleep.

But there was the boy holding a ball in his hands, so I pointed to him. They still denied than i could hear anything from their room.

Then I related all the conversations I had overheard through the door - where they had been, what they each liked and didn't like, the visit tomorrow to see Grandma.

THAT got their attention. They finally realized if I could hear normal conversations then probably a ball clunking off the adjoining door w/b problematic.

Things quieted down after that, but I was gone the next day so someone else who got my studio probably owed me a thank you if they had it more quiet than I did.

:thumbsup2 Exactly. Our last trip OKW in December had very loud parents in the studio that was locked off from our 1 bedroom. I always try to be as quiet as possible so I don't annoy those around us, but I think many people forget that their conversations, yelling, banging and playing can be heard by others.

I once had very noisy neighbors above me at OKW. I can't imagine why parents were letting the kids bounce balls and bang pans on the floor at 5:00 AM every day, but it finally stopped when I found the broom in the laundry room and applied the handle to the ceiling a couple of times to get my point across.;)

The one that makes we want to run screaming is when they leave the door latch on, so the kids can go in and out and in and out bang the door. :faint:

you mean the "WILL YOU KIDS BE QUIET ALREADY?!!!! PEOPLE ARE SLEEPING!!!" before 6AM, and after 11PM. i assume the parents didn't even notice the door-kicking game which happened a bit less often (BC & BCV).

worse yet, it wasn't just one family:headache:

Yes, we've all been in those situations before. How about being in the room under the honeymooners..... Been there a few times.

One of my pet peeves is when folks let the little one play on the balcony un-supervised. :scared1:

It's not just children. I stayed at BLT earlier this month and a group of adults was returning to their rooms around midnight. Laughing and saying their goodbyes and then slamming their doors.

This is a good point. The problem is peoples' days don't line up with others'. By this I mean, we, for example, always get up very early, either to hit a park first thing or go for a run. But we're also in bed early. Others might like to sleep in and then stay out later at night, or early morning.

Last time at OKW we were in a GV for 9 nights. Seemed like every night our neighbors would get in after midnight and spend some very loud time on the deck. Woke us up every time.

I think people just don't stop and think that they are not in the house, with more than a pretty thin wall separating them from their neighbors, and don't adjust their actions as they need to to be considerate of others. Not out of malice, just because they don't think about where they are and how many other families are within shouting distance (pun intended).

I have to agree with the OP about the inconsiderate parents and people in the hallways...but I must say we have been lucky with neighbor part aside from one family at OKW above us with kids bouncing/jumping, sounding like a mix of basketball and herd of elephants:confused3 after coming back late at night and the WORST was Disney itself at BWV about 3/12 years ago when they were remodeling. They decided to remodel the room above us and they would start before 7:30 AM moving furniture etC? then later in the day carpet removal it went on for days. I was so noisy you could hear them loudly in the lobby.. They acknolodged that they should not be working that early(could start at 9 AM though) and would do nothing about the day noise...remodeling has to be done by Thanksgiving... tough on you. And we always seem to be there when they are pressure washing the buildings.. :rolleyes2

Lol, this reminds me of when our children were young (grown now) and everytime we would start down a hall in a hotel/resort, I would say "Shhhhhh, people are trying to sleep". (in a quiet voice) I would say this no matter what time of day it was because you never know when someone could be napping. Of course, this always made my kids and DH giggle but it also quieted them down.

I did not want to say that as to apear holier that thou, but when we were with our grandkids especially at BWV that would be me shushing them in the hallways, they got it finally...and so did the parents. LOL

I sometimes wonder if this entitled generation even knows what the golden rule is!!!!!

indeed! I've given up trying to get a good night's sleep at WDW, always take ear plugs. my pet peeve is the little darlings repeatedly jumping off the bed above us.:confused3
