3 generations on the Fantasy & cruising concierge: CABANA #10! [updated 10/12/14]

I love St John- I think it is the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. :goodvibes That beach you were looking down on was Trunk Bay- if you ever go back, the snorkeling there is very cool- there are actually signs in the water describing the coral and fish- it's an underwater trail. :thumbsup2 So awesome!

You always take such beautiful photos- and really, your daughter is ADORABLE!! :cutie: What a cutie!

Thanks for the clarification...I couldn't remember the name of that beach. I'd definitely love to visit again. It was very beautiful.

And thank your for the very kind comments. They are much appreciated. :)

ST. JOHN & ST. THOMAS PART 2

back to our "Tour of St. John" excursion....

next to the beach was an old sugar cane factory. we were allowed to explore the area & then were told to make our way down to the rocky beach.

IMG_7022-2_zps01dae4d4.jpg

there is a pretty steep incline up towards the sugar cane factory. again, if you are unable to physically make it or have no interest, you could hang out in the tour van with the driver. some people skipped out on the sugar cane factory & just made their way to the beach.

IMG_7021-2_zpscc192b71.jpg

emme collected leaves along the way to make a bouquet.

IMG_7029-2_zpsfdafa505.jpg

grandma & emme.

the ruins were pretty fascinating. there was also a fabulous view of the gorgeous water too.

IMG_7033-2_zps7d976db3.jpg

IMG_7044-2_zpsde9db0b8.jpg

lovely view.

IMG_7046-2_zps71b4c7b5.jpg

emme catching up with her reading.

IMG_7034-2_zps68abc5f9.jpg

pretty small flower.

there was a surprise treat at the sugar cane factory ruins. in a small room, a native was preparing home made bread & was offering all tourists the bread, cheese (it looked & tasted like good ole cheddar cheese) in addition to a local non-alcoholic drink. very nice!

IMG_1101-1_zps111b0b01.jpg

the bread was a bit dry but was warm from the hearth oven she was using. the cheese was ok but i didn't eat much of it as it looked as if it had sat out for awhile. the drink was very very sweet.

we did a little more exploring and made or way down to the beach. but look what we randomly saw in a tree.

IMG_7055-2_zps043366e6.jpg

cotton!

i thought that was pretty neat to see cotton. i've never seen cotton before just blooming in a tree. i guess it's the little things, right?

IMG_7064-2_zpsb4e51773.jpg

my mom loves loves loves flowers & anything green.

we made it to the beach and came across this sign:

here are some more views from the excursion:

super gorgeous st. john.

my mom on top of the world!

self portrait.

overall, i really enjoyed the excursion. we left early enough to make it back onto the boat & it was something all three of us could do. our driver was excellent & the island was breathtakingly beautiful.

while waiting for our boat to take us back to st. thomas, it did begin to drizzle on and off.

IMG_1107-1_zps18216bef.jpg

waiting for our boat.

IMG_1105_zps79cdc71c.jpg

vanilla ice cream from a local shop. it was pretty bad & made her tummy hurt.

we made our way back to the boat to have some lunch & unwind.

view from our balcony.

i loved our balcony so much.

and a pirate ship...ARGH!

after dropping off emme & the oceaneer lab, my mom & i decided to go shopping in st. thomas.

DSC00160-2_zpsa658b0e3.jpg

hello st. thomas!

DSC00165-2_zpsda620c00.jpg

we headed to yacht haven grande which was literally right next to the boat. there were lots of shops including some high end stores. it wasn't as busy as i thought it would be but there were so many things to look at.

DSC00166-2_zpsda59917a.jpg

my mom & i both bought purses for ourselves at the gucci store. our purses were 20% cheaper than in the states and there is NO SALES TAX! that was exciting.

DSC00170-2_zpse92810ec.jpg

we rushed back on board the ship as we were set to sail at 430. it was pirate night this evening at animators palate. i was pretty tired & wanted to unwind a bit in my room before dinner.

IMG_1135_zps82ab7912.jpg

yummy bubbly from the concierge lounge.

we had a great day in st. thomas & st. john. i will never forget the spectacular views that st. john provided. i loved that the excursion was 4 hours and began early which still gave us time to enjoy the boat & not feel so "rushed". two thumbs up from me.

up next, PIRATE NIGHT!

St Thomas and St John look beautiful - so excited to be going there next year :)

I really love to do excursions that still leave enough time to explore on your own as well. The one you took sounds perfect, back to the boat for lunch and shopping in the afternoon :)

I'd love to see your purse!

you are going to have an awesome time! i really want to cruise again in january for emme's 4th birthday but i really wished we had warmer weather in castaway cay. so i'm considering cruising a little later.

here are the purses:

IMG_1122_zps882de4eb.jpg

my mom & her pretty purse.

IMG_2858-1_zpsc70298cc.jpg

this is my large hobo bag. i have a smaller gucci bag & wanted something larger. i'm really happy with it & it was such a great deal...plus no tax! :cheer2:

I just got all caught up, I'm really enjoying your review. I have been thinking about going on the Eastern cruise in 2014 as we have been on the western many times. Youre pictures are amazing, your daughter is adorable too. Oh and by the way I fell in love with your purse, maybe I will have to save up to get one when I go. DH will not be happy, LOL. :rotfl2:

DH is not gonna like that they have good deals on purses. LOL

he doesn't have to know!! :lmao:

thank you for the nice compliments!

the louis vuitton purses were considerably less than stateside as well. there was a large speedy bag for the same price as my gucci bag. i was actually kind of stupified when she was telling me prices as they were considerably cheaper than the stores here. i thought she was quoting me the wrong prices! the no sales tax is such a great deal! it's definitely worth saving for.

LOVE the purses

Is it too early to write a shopping list for 2014 yet!!

:)

thanks linda!

and it's never too early! :cloud9:

:beach:

PIRATE NIGHT @ ANIMATORS PALATE!

after returning from our excursion in st. john, we found an invitation for pirate's night & some really cute red bandanas awaiting us on the bed. emme decided she wanted to wear one early.

IMG_1124_zpsa00b227d.jpg

we all took a much needed nap & shower after our long day. the concierge lounge has such delicious food offerings that change daily that we had a light snack before dinner. we have second seating so this would have held us over until dinner.

IMG_7158-3_zps5c772ffc.jpg

and we're ready for pirates night...ARGH!!

pirates night for us would be at animators palate. i was pretty tired at this point & so was emme. it's one of the downs of having second seating but however, i prefer it over first seating. i felt like i would be so rushed to make it to second seating.

IMG_7173-3_zps1d99806e.jpg

IMG_1154_zpsf79e30d3.jpg

mr. o'neil & mr. ninja greeted us promptly & look what was awaiting us at the table:

IMG_7182-3_zpsf03aa17f.jpg

SAMBAL

and here are some menu excerpts for the night:

IMG_1146_zps06180180.jpg

IMG_1147_zps08aabb5d.jpg

IMG_7168-3_zps7d9ccca6.jpg

we got some warm, yummy bread:

IMG_1150_zps129d555d.jpg

and while we are waiting for our appetizers, emme & i got into the pirate spirit (well, i did more than she did).

IMG_7172-3_zps5ecae142.jpg

ARGH MATEYS!

speaking of appetizers, here is what we ordered:

IMG_1161_zpsb80f91d1.jpg

Caribbean-style Conch Chowder - with sherry, sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, thyme, and garnished with diced potatoes and crispy bacon bits

this was pretty terrible. it tasted like nacho cheese in soup form. i didn't see any conch or bacon. this was definitely not a winner.

next:

IMG_1164_zps5b109d9d.jpg

Black Beard's Jumbo Crab Cake - with a golden raisin-carrot and coconut slaw served with a spice Calypso dressing.

the crab cake was a definite upgrade from the conch soup. the slaw was forgettable. there was a nice amount of crab in the crab cake & minimal filler.

lastly:

IMG_7177-3_zps142f9475.jpg

Pirates Golden "Pot Stickers" - Oriental pork dumplings deep fried and served with a Tamarind-ginger soy sauce and pickled vegetables

i really dislike the word "oriental". however, these dumplings greatly reminded me of the pot stickers at 'ohana. the skin wasn't as crispy but they were pretty good. waaaay better than the terrible conch soup.

IMG_7187-3_zpse1774bd5.jpg

tired emme.

IMG_7183-3_zpsc9f69915.jpg

tink & hook.

here are the entrees:

IMG_7179-3_zps0a32dd45.jpg

Captain Hook's Macadamia Nut-dusted Mahi Mahi - Jasmine rice and sautéed pineapple on a mild curry sauce

this picture isn't the best but it's the only shot of the fish that i got. the fish was awful & inedible. it was definitely frozen & had a terrible smell, texture & taste. the rice was good but after two bites, we threw in the towel on the fish dish. absolutely gross.

up next:

IMG_1167_zpsdf6e3fe7.jpg

Treasures of the Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops - served on strings of pasta and fresh creamy tomato sauce

this was recommended by our server so we ordered it to share. the sauce was not creamy at all. when i think of a creamy tomato sauce, i think of a vodka sauce. it was just regular red sauce. i got suckered into the seared scallops (again) & i was disappointed (again). there is a bright spot to this dish...the grilled shrimp! the shrimp was really good. i enjoyed them. the pasta had potential but it fell flat.

our last entree:

IMG_1173_zps7d379cb3.jpg

Castaway Chicken Breast - rubbed with Pirate Island Spice, rice and beans, and fried okra on rich spiced glaze

the picture makes this look like some sort of spider but this was the definite winner of the three entrees we ordered. the chicken was moist & i loved the fried okra. i was surprised the okra wasn't slimey...thumbs up from me. maybe 3 times is the charm for entrees?? i was glad we found something we liked.

emme had a meal of rice & mashed potatoes. go figure.

overall, another OK meal at animators palate. i love the ambiance of this place & our severs were extraordinary. disney definitely knows how to theme places up!

on our way back to our room we ran into a few friends:

IMG_7205-3_zpsd5fd953e.jpg

IMG_7218-3_zps2ebe079e.jpg

donald is so dang cute!! donald #1!

IMG_7221-3_zps9e8b93dd.jpg

IMG_7216-3_zps771a5e1e.jpg

goofy is such a ham!

IMG_7250-3_zps6b696d6c.jpg

emme is holding Hook's hook. ha ha!

IMG_7253-3_zps4f6a6663.jpg

we made a pit stop to our room to grab a jacket as it was windy and headed back out to watch the fireworks. the fireworks were really nice & such a treat but nowhere near the level of wishes.

we had such a LOOOOOOONG but awesome day & the fireworks were a perfect way to end. sleep would be amaaaaaaazing this night.

Looks like you had a fun Pirates night :)

I seem to remember the food not being that great on our pirates night as well

Lovely photos with the characters

Thanks Linda!

AP was my least favorite place to eat on the ship.

That picture of Emme eating that vanilla ice cream is hilarious. She looks funny but still cute!

Nice Gucci bags!!! I like yours a lot! I need a new bag. My coach is getting too dirty.

That food doesn't look good on pirates night. I wouldn't have liked any of those options.

I am absolutely loving your TR! My 3 kids and I will be on the Fantasy, also doing concierge (12512) this coming June 22nd.

Could you have watched the fireworks from your balcony?

Your daughter is just precious! Congratulations on a good job being a single mom! I know how hard it can be.

food in the main dining rooms was pretty underwhelming sometimes. cabanas for lunch was far better (believe it or not!).

congrats on the cruise. you are going to have a blast! enjoy all that concierge offers. i'm going to post pictures of the concierge private sundeck next in this post. concierge is amaaaaaazing! it's well worth the extra money!

i could not see the fireworks from my balcony as it was starboard side. but i was able to see it on the 12th floor. it was nice to just run back into my room afterwards. it was pretty windy that night.

thank you for the comments. being a single mother is so hard but well worth it. it's been a tremendous experience so far!!
