Using Different Contracts Online? - updated Post #9

I am trying to make a reservation for my in-laws online. I've tried doing it two ways, and I am guessing I just need to call MS to do it "my" way. I want to see if there is a way to do it myself before calling. We have a contract at BWV and one at GCV. Both are August UY. The trip is in September 2013, so during our 2013 UY. Here is what I want to do:

1) Use 41 banked points from GCV from 2012.
2) Use 24 current 2013 points from BWV.
3) Use 12 borrowed points from BWV 2014.

I've tried using the BWV contract first. I click the "borrow" button and try to borrow 12 points, and the system says I must borrow 53 to complete the reservation.

Next, I tried using the GCV contract first. I then click that I want to use the BWV contract second. When the transaction is complete, it says it used my 41 banked points and 36 from the 2013 UY from GCV. It uses NONE of the BWV points.

I realize that I am not doing a "normal" transaction, but is this not possible online? I don't mind calling, but I prefer doing it myself so I can know it is correct. I used the cancel button on the confirmation page both times, so I don't have this reservation. I'm just driving myself crazy because it seems like a simple thing to me, but apparently not to the computer. :badpc:

I have heard that there is supposed to be a way to choose the contracts that you use. However, what I did not know, since I don't yet have two resorts under the same UY is whether or not you can borrow points when you have current UY points left if you are not booking within the home resort period.

Best to probably call MS since they can walk you through things and make sure its done the way you want.

Good luck!

Do you have one master or 2. If you have 2, and it sounds like you may, I don't think calling will change things any. If that's the case you'll need to make separate reservations under each master then link them. You would need to call to do a transfer, esp if you need to transfer banked/borrowed points or already transferred the one time for either or both cotracts.

If not, each separate contract should come up on page 2 of the reservations and you actively chose which ones to use before proceeding. It uses the ones chosen (and only those) it appears. I have 4 contracts under one master but they are all the same home resort.

We have one master. The second contract is xxx.01. Each contract does come up on Page 2, but it won't let me use a few from each contract. Both contracts have enough points, so whichever one I use "first" has enough that it won't take from both. I don't know if I am explaining that well. I'll call and see if I can make progress.

I don't have your exact situation so all I can address is what I do see and experience. Maybe someone else can address the circumstance of multiple home resorts under 1 contract for the 7 months reservations. When I get to page 3 actually, the one after you select the specific reservation, I get a screen that says "select and prioritize your contracts" (I have 4*25 AKV). beside each is a check box. Once I select them they move to the top and have a highlight box around them. Once you have multiple contracts, it even gives you the chance to move them up or down in priority. If you're not seeing that for both home resorts and it's under 7 months out, I'd call and see if you can get it fixed for the future. If you were trying to do the 7 months out for multiple nights, that could be the answer but it appears you're 6 months out (March to Sept).

Dean, I appreciate you trying to help me so much. What you have described is exactly what I see. The problem is, even though I check both contracts, it won't let me used banked from one, current points and borrowed points from the second. Since both contracts have enough points, whichever I pick to use first uses all the points for the reservation and the other doesn't get used. I will call today now that they are open and get it fixed. I just thought it would be simpler. I'm sorry for not explaining it well, and I truly appreciate your willingness to help me.

It sounds like a glitch, maybe they know about it already. Do report back so we all know.

I completely understand what you are trying to do. You will have to call to do it. The online system is limited in its ability to dictate using only some points from a certain contract in a UY if more are available to be used, it's just not flexible enough. What I've done is make a partial ressie online using points from one contract/resort to get it started and then call to add the remainder using whatever mix of points I want. For example I purchased 3 points on a current mixed contract ressie to avoid using current UY points I needed to reserve for an 11m booking.

I finally got around to calling this morning, and I had a wonderful CM named Karen who helped me. She said that what I wanted to do was not able to be done online. She said that she needed to "trick" the computer to use the points how I wanted. She was very knowledgable, she got everything resolved, she reviewed my points, and she did everything she possibly could have. I hate having to waste a phone call when I knew what I wanted to do, and I do wish the online system was able to do more "complicated" reservations. However, I am very grateful that if I do need to call, MS has knowledgable CMs who can get the job done!

Thanks for that info. I'm glad to know I wasn't totally inept at figuring it out, and that I wasn't crazy for using my points in that manner! :rotfl:
