We love WDW and DLR. We take a trip every year and have been since 1993. We have only been DVC members for 3 years. It took us a long time to decide to purchase and to have the cash to do it. With DVC we are now taking two trips per year so that adds to costs but it is great to share Disney with our family and friends. For us I am glad we waited but also very glad that we bought.

If you are uncertain renting is probably a better idea and lots of research helps too.

Being from Canada we usually take a Florida trip 2-3 times a year. We enjoy the villas (esp. 1 bedrooms with full kitchen & laundry) and would never be able to afford them on a yearly basis as prices rise.

We also are looking forward to using our points at HHI, VB and Aulani for those times we desire a non-park trip.

We bought because we love WDW and wanted something larger than a hotel room while on property. We own at BLT and love it. The ability to walk to MK or take the monorail is a real plus. We will also use our points to stay at Hilton Head this summer and maybe Aulani one day!

One thing we do realize is that our membership is nothing more than prepaid vacations. It is not a real estate purchase. It will not appreciate and monthly dues will only go up from here. That said, we are thrilled we have our membership and love sharing it with others! Good luck!

2008 : 5D@YC (discounted) w/5DPH = 1850x2 = 3700 + 4D@WL (discounted) w/3DPH ~ $1400 = 4100 uninclusive of food or transportation except ME. Direct DVC $28,000 / 20y ? (own 2 50y contracts but I am trying for real ) = 1400: annual dues 1300 + APx2 800 + TIW 100 (DDP = doesn't include Bev of Choice) = min outlay 3600.

Since we'd been doing and plan on continuing multi-year trips to WDW, kind of made the decision easy.

We bought in September of 2010 and have not regretted it one bit, we only wished we bought sooner. We have been going to Disney since our kids were 4 and 2 and even though they are 11 and 9 now, they still love Disney as much as they did when they were little. I know they are still within the Disney age, but I really don't see them ever not loving Disney since it is such a big part of their lives. DH and I have said that when the girls get old enough to where they don't want to go to Disney as much, we would still go and just use the resorts as resorts and probably only go to Epcot since that is our favorite park .

But to answer your question, we decided to buy because we go to Disney every year, sometimes twice a year. We also like to stay in the Deluxe resorts, so with that said, DVC just made sense for us. Also, like I said before, Disney is a huge part of our lives. DH, both of my DDs, and I love Disney and are very comfortable there. Yes we go to other places when we vacation, but WDW is like home to us.

I bought because I like to visit Disney and have for over 40 years now. Also conferences I attend were making WDW their location more and more so it made sense from that direction also. And I wanted to have a bit of a vacation "forced" rather than only tacking on to conferences which had completely become my M.O.

I enjoy having friends and family along but I bought DVC for me. (DH enjoys it too so he gets to come along - most of the time. )

I would not buy direct though when the expense can easily be lessened by buying resale.

My wife and I are in the process of completing our direct purchase after our first visit to WDW, courtesy of our son and his wife. They are DVC members and thought a family Christmas at WDW would be a memorable one (they were right). Being in Canada we were looking for a winter get away and Florida (and WDW) is perfect. We decided to buy direct as we may want to take advantage of stays at other locations. So with the kids grown up and moved out & us at the very young ages of 50 and 52, we decided to buy 200 points at BLT. We have our first trip reserved for Dec 2013 and the next two planned (Spring 2014 at WDW and Jan 2015 at Aulani). We are financing ourselves and, if my calculations are correct, should have it paid off in 3.5 yrs and it will have paid for itself after our 7th or 8th trip.

The Question should be Do YOU want to continue to go to WDW. We own at OKW and AKL and our kids are now in the late 20's and still go every year with us. We go twice a year, in June for the kids,and Oct. for the FWF. they go in June with us but still try to go with us in Oct. If you really love Disney you can't go wrong at DVC. If your teens are old enough you can put their names on the title as we did. Points do expire: OKW 2042, SSR 2054, AKL 2057, BLT 2060.

It was because of a giraffe...

We booked a room at Animal Kingdom Lodge and, you can call me a nut, but there was a giraffe that followed me every time he saw me. He would come as close to our balcony as he could. If I was viewing the Savannah from a different part of the resort, he would come as close as he could to me there.

It was wonderful!! Where else am I EVER going to interact with a giraffe like that? I booked a tour on the next-to-last day and became a proud AKV owner!

I hope they gave that giraffe an extra treat!!

US TOO!! We made trips to Disney at least every other year when my twins were little. We went on the DVC tour many times(boardwalk), wishing we had the money to spend. Whenever we went to Disney, we would stay for at least one night at AKL. DH said "when they have DVC here, that's when we'll buy...and that's when we did." The only regret we had is that we couldn't do it sooner. Now we own AKV and OKW. Love them both and are planning on many more trips with our kids, then our friends, and ultimately with our grandchildren someday.

We bought DVC at OKW last summer. We have been going to Disney World since our daughter was 3 months old....she is 19 now! Disney has been a big part of our lives, we enjoyed many trips with my in-laws to Disney and unfortunately, they are no longer with us, but we have all of the memories of them at Disney and we continue to make more memories at Disney. YES! I think it is definitely worth it! My daughter still enjoys Disney...always so much to do there. 2 years ago....we became legal guardians of 2 teenage boys 14 & 16 so now we can make memories with them. Some day, we hope to enjoy our DVC with our grandchildren, but for now....we will enjoy it with our family and friends. We are planning on celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in 3 years at DVC in Hawaii!

We bought for a few reasons. I grew up going to Disney regularly and have family in Orlando. I never stayed on property growing up and when my DH and I took our kids for the first time in 2009 I was adamant about staying close to the magic. He was adamant about having a kitchen, w/d, and a King bed. So that led us to information about DVC and renting DVC pts. We called Dave and rented pts for a 1BR at AKV. (I HIGHLY recommend renting and trying it out before investing!)

We loved the room, the resort, the kids activities, the overall DVC program. After that trip we started looking into resales. We know we want to vacation at Disney or HHI every year. Renting would have been fine except I want to be able to control our planning and I also want to know that my workaholic DH will be FORCED to vacation at least once a year

I love that my kids will grow up knowing Disney as a home away from home. I love that I have the fun of planning trips each year. DH loves that I will never make him go commando through the parks and he will always have a break at the pool (and pool bar) in the afternoon. It's a good fit for us. DW and I had purchased another timeshare, found out we were lied too, and cancelled within the cancelation period.
When we heard of DVC, we knew we would purchase, as we trusted Disney.
Our first stay, was everything and more we were told to expect.
What amazing vacations we have had due to DVC.

I'm on the wait list for OKW and am starting to have doubts about whether or not it's worth it for me. I'm a single mom with two teens. We got to WDW every year, and I figure we'll be doing so for the next few years. But what happens when they are older and don't want to go... What then...

Tell me what made you buy dvc...

Are you sure they will grow out of it? I only really grew to LOVE WDW in my teens, and go all the time now as an adult with my DH.

We bought DVC last year because we want to continue to live the magic and make new memories when we do have children of our own.

A few reasons why we bought
(1) We have been going to disney at least every other year in the high end resorts.
(2) At that point, I been to disney more often without kids then with including 1 honeymoon. So I know there is a lot to do for adults as well.
(3) I have always impressed with the quality of services and everything they do to make your trip enjoyment. The attention to detail is amazing.
(4) I had a bonus from work and wanted to spend it on something that would hellp the entire family and last more than 1 one time
(5) Once the kids are gone which will be in 2 years, we plan to visit some of the other sites like hawaii and hilton head. And plan to go during the low times like October.
We did not do it to save money..

I would never buy any other timeshare. I am still giddy after 13 years that I own a piece of the mouse. I have to admit you have to love Disney for this to be worthwhile and everyone in my family does.

We want to walk to the parks from our room, stay in accommodations with a kitchen and separate bedrooms, and save money in the long term vs. the options of booking on a discount or renting points.

My name is Mel
I've always loved Disney World.
I am single ,but parent to three adult sons. I have one grandaughter.
I decided to do something just for ME. I did the Disney tour on my own,visited all the DVC resorts and then bought a small point contract resale at OKW.
I now have three small point contracts and travel once a year to Disney.
My contracts were paid in cash. My yearly dues are 1/3 of what a week stay in a studio at OKW would be staying cash.

I have a 10 park hopper non expiry that goes a long way when you only visit a park or two each visit.

I am still supporting all my sons (living at home) and attending school.
--someday they shall move out.

There are so many fun things you can do at Disney solo. My favorite is the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. I also love sitting around the pool and enjoying a good book. I will say my solo visits are slim as someone seems to always tag along with me.

My DD17 is aghast at the thought that she might someday be "too old" for Disney trips. DS20 feels the same. If you spend enough time there with your teens they will never outgrow it!
