Oh the places We Go, The People We see

Nice walk around before bed time.
Thanks for the walking tour of the ship. It looks so pretty.
I kind of agree with the no pic in the kids club rule.
Nice pics in Nassau.
LOL. That sign is funny.
That poor Flamingo. That is why they should be held in captivity.
All caught up again.

Jen, glad to hear that the surgery could be avoided. :thumbsup2 :wave2:

I was too

I am glad that he is healing well and did not need surgery after all. That is great news.

By the way, I have started my Dubai mini trip report. You can find this here:

Corinna

Yay. I am there!

Yay for avoiding surgery! :thumbsup2 Now you just have to keep him in line until he heals completely. Good luck with that ! :lmao:

Yeah right! :rotfl:

So glad Skip could avoid surgery!

Me too

Poor Abby but those pictures are so funny she's like I don't care how pink you are get away from me :goodvibes

I agree. I am actually surprised they let people in there with them for that very reason. I am sure she is not the only one who has ever touched one.
It's meat to be part of, but if you think about it, I really wonder how well they are treated.

Alexis isn’t all that keen on the flamingoes either.

Claire was safely in between her 2 cousins, so no worries for her.

The kids then were allowed to sit back down and the flamingos ran around a few more times.

One of the rebels.

See the 2 fighting on the right side? I was laughing and we were putting words in their mouths. “Did you see that girl grab my neck? I have been marching for over 30 years and NO ONE has ever grabbed my neck! I can’t believe she did such a thing”.

“I am filing a claim with workman’s comp!”

“I have never had my feathers in such a ruffle”.

“Let’s get out of here”.

That really was a fun thing to see. Not something I would want to do every trip, but I good thing to try at least once. The flamingoes are beautiful too.

After the show we did a little more looking around.

With our tickets, we could get a free drink or snack, so we headed over to the snack bar and each got a pop. Well the rest of the family pretty much got bottle waters, but Claire and I got pops. When we got on the bus, the family noticed that the label said Bahamian water and they refused to drink it. They said after seeing the disgusting green water there, there was no way they would take a chance of drinking it. I am sure it was fine, but I wasn’t going to be the guinea pig on that one either.

We next headed towards Fort Charlotte.

We had the option of staying on the bus or getting off and taking a quick look around.
I believe this is when Aunt Mary said she was getting off to stretch and Abby comes darting down the bus aisle and says “I’m going with Murry”. We all laughed and said, “Um Murry, you have someone joining you”.
I think about half the bus got off, and Claire and I did as well. I took a few pictures. It was really neat to see, but sad to see the graffiti on the buildings.
You can see the ship from here too.

My beloved lighthouse

I love this picture.

I took a lot of pictures with the ship in the distance.

Dad, Rob and Alexis had walked up towards the Fort, but came right back down.

Claire and I went up there next. Now to actually go in the Fort it cost money. I think it was only like a dollar or 2, but since we had limited time there, I didn’t want to hold everyone else up by going in. I would probably get carried away with pictures inside and not pay attention to time. I believe Skip and I toured this Fort many years ago too.

I'm betting that the words that you spoke on behalf of the flamingos is just about what they were really thinking. :rotfl: I was going to show John the Abby vs. the flamingo pictures last night but I didn't get a chance. He'll get a chuckle out of them.

Oh, I hate to see the graffiti on the buildings. Why can't people just leave historical (or any building for that matter) alone? :sad1: It takes away from the beauty.

I bet he will laugh. They might have Abbys picture outside the gate now that says "do Not let the girl back in!" :rotfl:

I hate to see it too. When were in Cozumel, there was some at the ruins too. And the Guide there said they really work on trying to clean it and prevent it now. But for many years the place just basically sat there with no one protecting it.

The flamingo shots are awesome! An absolute hoot! :lmao: I especially love the captions! But my favorites are the ones with the look on Alexis' face and Claire standing next to her laughing. She really is her mother's child, isn't she? :rotfl:

And I also love the shot of the Dream with Atlantis in the background. So tell us.... how did you get her to post there for you? ;)

Claire was pretty brave, which is funny because in the past, Alexis is usually braver.

I just asked the Captain to just pull her there so I could get the perfect shot! :rotfl2:

I think I may have been to that fort. The gardens look great despite the storm and the flamingo march was fabulous. Wathcing the kids react is priceless. I bet in spite of their reactions, thy will remember that for the rest of their lives. ::yes::

The shot of the Dream with Atlantis in the background is simply beautiful.

OK remember way back in February when I promised to stay caught up on this TR?......well I lied:sad2: But I'm now all caught up on ALL the TRs I subscribe to even the ones I just lurk on. And I stayin caught up...that's my plan and I'm sticking to it!

The Abby stories are to funny!

It looks like you all are having such a good time with the cruise so far. I really hope I can take River on one some day. It would have to be a Disney one of course.

I love all the photos. Oh what I would give for having a Disney ship docked in front of another Atlantis.

We did enjoy the Flamingoes. I am sure the kids will remember it forever, whether it be good memories or nightmares. :rotfl2:

I love Claire's face "Haha, sucker! They aren't getting me!" :)

You do get some great shots!

She does have that face, doesn't she?

Don't feel bad. I am doing ok keep caught up right now, but the next few weeks are busy and I am bound to get way behind again. I was hoping to get more of my TR up, but I just can't seem to find the extra time to edit pictures and then write it up.
River would love the ship!

Thanks. We had a great time and that view was awesome.

I continued taking pictures of the Fort area.

I kept switching cameras, so I am not sure if these are in exact order. It was really neat and I was so tempted to go inside. But I knew everyone else would be waiting on me.

I just love the views!

Another fantastic view.

We all got back on the bus then and soon we were headed into town.

I tried to take pictures as we drove, but they aren’t the greatest from a bus with tinted windows.

At times we would see beautiful houses and other times we basically saw holes in the ground. My family did NOT like Nassau at all. They thought it was dirty and falling apart. I have to agree with both, but also recently seeing some other ports just about 6 weeks prior, I didn’t really think it was all that much worse than the other ports civilian areas. And we have to remember that a hurricane had come through just a week or 2 prior.

As we drove along, our bus driver did point out things and tell us what certain places were or represented.

Some of us look a little tired.

Or perhaps bored?

We then approached Fort Fincastle.

ftfincastle2.jpg

ftfincastle1.jpg

As we drove around it, our driver asked if we would like to stop and take a look …and yes I did …but everyone else shouted no! UGH! I didn’t say anything, but I really did want to check this place out, more so than Ft. Charlotte. Oh Well, maybe next time.

Not far from there is the Queens Stairs.

This was made for the Fort so they could escape in an invasion. I actually think I read or heard that it never was actually used in that matter though.

queensstaircase1.jpg

We did stop here and some of us took a look around.

queensstaircase2.jpg

I wasn’t about to head down the steps …..because then you had to climb back up!

There was a man sitting there telling tidbits about the stairs, but he was there to make money. He wanted a tip. We didn’t stick around too long and then headed back to the bus and off back towards the port.

When we got dropped off, that is when we learned that our driver was brand new. He did such a great job and I never would’ve known it if we hadn’t been told. We all gave him a tip and headed on our way.

I am enjoying your trip report. Great job.

I also love Claire's clothes. You do a nice job making them.

Jen, great photos as always!

I love the view from Fort Fincastle. If you come to Nassau again, you can walk up to the Fort. It's about a 15 minute walk from the port. :thumbsup2

I would normally be in your family's camp as I absolutely hated Nassau. We got off during our first cruise, but only stayed in Nassau for about 90 minutes. On our second cruise we also stopped in Nassau and I refused to get off the ship. Still, having seen some of your photos, I wonder if it has deserved another look.

Thanks. I don't make them though, I borrow or buy. :rotfl: I am not that crafty at all. I did make our blue tie dye shirts and that was enough for me.

Thanks again Karin.
I actually thought about walking back, but I didn't. I did tour it back about 10 years ago with Skip. I think we toured 2 or 3 that trip. But I would love to go back again and check them out. Hopefully in the future.

Yeah, it's not the nicest place. But a lot of those prts are poor countries and depend on tourism. That is one reason I do like the excursions through Disney. I can take a look at things I probably wouldn't normally know about. I know I can do some on my own, but I often feel safer doing it through DCL.
