We are at Disney now and our very first day one of the CM's at Living with the Land was moving my personal scooter by using the key and throttle and slammed it into a gate post. She broke a piece of the deck off by my front wheel and cracked it up by the wheel. It also caused some damage to the tiller controls to where it wouldn't work correctly. I placed a claim immediately to Disney about the damage.

I called Apple Scooters and they got me a replacement scooter in about an hour from when I called. It has worked perfectly.

Can't thank Apple enough for helping me out when I needed it.

Just as an FYI for all using scooters, DO NOT leave your key in the scooter for a CM to use to move the scooter. Force them to put the scooter into neutral and move it that way!


I have had that scooter for 5 years and put it thru all sorts of things including flying it several times and have never had any damage to it. Two hours into the park and it is damaged by a CM.

Wow!! I am very sorry to hear this!
This really concerns me because they are VERY insistent that you leave your key in the scooter at Test Track for them to move them to the other side...I suspect it is so they can move them quicker. I was once bothered by the fact that I have a smaller sized scooter (that I also own) and it has a more restrictive weight limit and I know the person moving it exceeded that limit. Granted they were not moving it far, but it still should not have happened. And if I opened my mouth to say, "hey you weigh too much to be on my scooter." I'm the 'rude' one. I really think that the CM's should always be moving them manually.
I guess I am going to have to be the uncooperative 'bad' guy at Test Track now and tell them firmly but politely...I will not be leaving my key. They will have to put it in manual to move it.
I hope Disney makes good on your claim! Please keep us posted how that works out!!

My guess the reason for asking the key to be left in at Test Track is that it is difficult for the CMs to push and pull the scooter out of the very small elevator that is used to move mobility devices up and over the track to the other side.

It is small, so they prefer to ride in the devices. Once (only once) I saw a CM quibble with another over who got to drive them and watched him goof off getting in the elevator. It may be more inconvenient to have to push the scooter, but they can definitely do it.

They did not want to push my powerchair to the other side, and did not want to be responsible for it, so they had me drive it over and board from the "exit" side. I suppose if they refuse to allow you to remove the key from it, they can have you take it over the track yourself.

Glad to hear Apple came through.

We also had trouble with my husbands personal scooter after it was returned to us after we had dinner at Tony's in MK. We called Apple that night and had a rental waiting for us the next morning. Great service from Apple.

That would be a good solution.
Those elevators have to be some of the smallest around. DH is not that big, but the CMs there usually have him push DD's wheelchair into the elevator and then use the stairs with the ret of us.

Then I would ask if you could move it to the exit and board their or go back the other loading. It keep the key and put it in manual before you leave it just invade they don't know how to and try to push it and break it that way.

When talking with the two managers who came when the scooter was damaged, they said that they don't want their people moving scooters any other way but manually. There are too many different types of scooters and power chairs for them to know how to safely use them any other way than by manually moving them.

At Star Tours they did not move my power wheelchair to the exit. Instead they had me drive through the ride after I rode. I would have preferred to take it through be before the ride but they had already boarded others ahead of me so that was not possible. Didn't have my husband with me to take it around as he was watch the grandsons ho aren't tall enough to ride.

Gosh, I am sorry that this happened to you. I have always been told to take my key with me (I own my scooter). Granted, I've only ridden Test Track once and I do remember that small elevator, but I just automatically take my key out whenever I plan to be away from my scooter for any amount of time (going to a store, restroom, restaurant, attraction, etc.) or when parking it on the buses. I even take it out when on the monorail even though I don't get off of it on the monorail. (I always transfer on the bus - learned that the hard way!)

Just a quick update. My scooter is still in the shop and I am waiting for the cost of it so I can turn it into Disney. I am having to pay it first and them Disney is supposed to reimburse me. We will see how that goes.

If you are concerned, ask the CM whether they will need to move the scooter once you board, or if it stays there. If they need to move it, and it is not a park scooter, put it into manual before you get on the ride and show them where the lever is.

I have had to teach a CM on more than once occasion where the freewheel level on a scooter was when they were trying to move it. It was never my scooter.

In my experience, they will not move powerchairs, regardless of freewheel or not. this means they have my ride BTMRR and such twice sometimes so they do not have to move the chair.
