OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

For a 10-inch cake covered in fondant, made in fancy flavors, topped with the white chocolate Mickey and Minnie figurine, and made by one of WDW's priciest bakeries, that sounds about right. You can cut down the price by getting an 8-inch (Disney's group-size-to-cake-size recommendations are hilariously generous—we had a 6-inch cake at UK Pubside for 6 people and didn't even eat half of it), asking for buttercream covering instead of fondant, and/or ditching the Mickey and Minnie.

Hope you'll share pictures! :goodvibes

Thanks so much lurkyloo. I think we will try the 8 inch version. We have ordered fruit ($9.75 per person!) as well as the cake so there will be plenty of food.

We had originally booked pubside for 2hours for dinner. We were so impressed with your experience there. However, they kept sending us buffet/banquet menus and wouldn't entertain thoughts of what we wanted to eat (a selection from the Rose and Crown!) so we opted to have dinner at the Rose and Crown and then move out to Pubside for dessert from 8:30 - 9:30. Seems pricey to reserve the area for dessert only, but you only have one 25th anniversary!

Thanks for the advice

It has taken me a while but I finally have the picture of my DD's birthday cake. We ordered it through AoA to be delivered to the food court for our pick up. I sent the image and all of the details I wanted included in the cake. I went with this particular design choice because I wanted a slightly more grown up looking Ariel cake. I requested a six inch red velvet with cream cheese filling and buttercream on the outside. I asked for a dark color to resemble the ocean at night and things from Ariel's grotto. I was quoted $60 +tax. My DD loved the cake and it was absolutely delicious!! Better than the one we got from GF in my opinion.

Here's the photo:

I just love that cake! How did the dark buttercream taste?
I want something similar in a Neverland theme, but I hate how frosting dye tastes. I would love to save the cost of fondant, but I also want the cake to taste good.

My questions is, would it be better to go through IPO or do it myself? Also correct me if I am wrong, but I need to use GF not the CR. I would like a almond cake with the passion fruit mousse.

Normally I would say to cut out the middleman and place the order yourself, but since you want something non-standard from the occasionally difficult-to-work-with GF Private Dining, I'd suggest having IPO place the order for you. :thumbsup2

It'll be worth it! Congrats on your anniversary! :goodvibes

Yes. There was someone who mentioned a few pages back that he/she was told that they could pick up a cake at The Wave, instead of having it delivered to one of the covered locations, but no one has actually mentioned having done this. It would not allow your cake to be delivered to your room in any case.

Okay perfect. That is what I thought but I wanted to double check. Since it is a surprise I dont wanna go pick it up at the Wave. I guess I will have to deal with the higher price at the GF or just get a 6inch cake instead. Thanks for the help ;)

The buttercream did not taste any different being dark. The color actually seemed airbrushed on and wasn't through the buttercream. As soon as we cut it, the buttercream was white except for that teeny tiny layer of color. We all had interesting colored mouths but it tasted fantastic! :D

Thanks! That definitely helps.

Okay, as soon as I figure Out how to get pictures off my phone and onto the website, I have a great Brave cake chef Brian did to post. I helped my friend order it for her 4 yo's bday.

10 inch, chocolate, with Chocolate buttercream. Fondant on top. Delivered to CRT. Not sure the final price feel rude asking her but I know it was between 125 and 150.

I love how your cake looked. do you mind if I use it for inspiration? I was planning something similar for my daughter's birthday. Instead of the picture of Ariel that you have, I was thinking of one with her in her cave; surrounded by whosits.

Go for it! I'm glad to help out since this thread has helped me so much with my cake ordering! The grotto is what the bottom and sides were representing in mine. There was a picture of Sebastian and Flounder on the side as if they are under the water. I thought I had taken more pictures of it.......wait! I don't think I checked my camera instead of my phone. I'll post if I have more to help with the inspiration. ;)

Yay! I found more pictures of my DD's bday cake. I completely forgot that I had taken my camera on that trip.:confused3

Here's a few showing more detail: (sorry the pics are so big.....I have to play on photobucket a bit yet)

Okay, as soon as I figure Out how to get pictures off my phone and onto the website, I have a great Brave cake chef Brian did to post.

If you have a Photobucket account, you should have a personal email address that you can send the photos to from your phone that will upload them straight to Photobucket. Or just email them to yourself from the phone, then upload them manually. Otherwise, if you want to email them to me, I can post them for you! (Can you tell I really want to see this cake? :rotfl: )

Hi all!

I've been looking for a reason to order a custom cake for such a long time and I finally have one! My parents will be celebrating their anniversary during our next Disney vacation in April! We're staying at the Bay Lake Towers and I just emailed the chef with my request and ideas. Fingers crossed that they are able to do it. I am beyond excited! Just wanted to share!

Luckyloo-- my Internet is down so I'm working off of 4g.... If you pm me your email I will happily send them.

Fingers crossed for tonight---it's the cake for my boss' son that I had such issues with via YC.

Hi, guys! We will be at wdw for my hubby's birthday, and I want to get him one of the "fancy fondant cakes." I had been planning on going to a restaurant at the Contemporary (since they have such amazing cakes) the night before his b'day (we are having a surprise dinner on his b'day at Victoria and Albert's, and I didn't really want to do the cake there). Unfortunately the California Grill is closed while we are there (where we would have loved to go for the first time), so it was going to be dinner at the Wave (which I am not too excited about, neither is he). But, I saw some of those great cakes that have been coming from the Yacht and Beach Club (we are staying at the Beach Club). I didn't know they could do cakes on a similar level to the Contemporary. I would much rather be able to get a great cake at the hotel we are staying at then have to go eat a restaurant we don't really want to. So, just to make sure I understand, you can get a cake from the Yacht and Beach Club delivered to your room by private dining if you are staying at the Beach Club? And this can be delivered even when you are not in the room? And I just call the main number on the first page and ask to be connected to the Yacht and Beach Club private dining?
