We will be staying in a DVC standard one bedroom at Kidani. Any suggestions on making a room request? We aren't too paticular, but we were thinking of requesting near the lobby as will have 3 young children. We were also thinking it would be central, so we would be between the pool and counter service at Jambo.

Thanks, I will be sure to report back when we return. We loved the GF! But they are undergoing a lot of construction now and since we are only staying two nights this trip with one park day at Animal Kingdom, that made the decision to stay here an easy one. My girls can't wait to see the animals right outside our room!

We just returned from a 1br at Jambo House. Can I just say that I find it irritating that I'm charged the same number of points, but I get a smaller room with only one bathroom? I think they should re evaluate the points cost for Jambo House 1br. I know that's unlikely to happen, but kvetching about it makes me feel better.

I see your point, but I agree --- it's very unlikely points reallocation would happen.

I've always looked at it as a trade-off. Yes, smaller room and only 1 bathroom, but I have the bigger (gorgeous) lobby, a great pool (although Kidani's is great too), 2 table service restaurants and the quick service restaurant.

For my points, I'd rather stay at Jambo!

Good question! I hope others will post their opinions/experiences, but for what you mentioned: pool (I'm assuming Kidani's pool?) and The Mara......... "near lobby" would be your best bet.

If you're planning on trips to the Mara and swimming at Uzima (Jambo's pool), then you might want to make a request to be "close to Jambo". There are elevators and exits on that side of Kidani which will make it relatively easy to walk to Jambo.

I agree with RachelTori on this. The trade off for the extra bathroom and space is the location. Many people would rather be closer to the action. (Mara, Boma, Jiko, the big lobby, etc.)

....I'm sure that GF is a very lovely place to spend a Disney vacay - I, however, am not one of those folks who cares to stay there. The grounds are extensive, and, knowing my luck, I'd probably get stuck in the very last room furthest away from the lobby! The views of the Castle must be amazing though...

I didn't realize that I was looking at the wrong school calendar, which had been updated to show the week of 4/7 - 4/13 as our Spring Break week. When I looked up availability this morning, the prices went to $340 and up! I also looked up my original dates, and they too went up substantially... DRAT!

....he's actually talking more and more about it [over the last two days]. He doesn't really want to spend more than 4 or 5 days at WDW (I'd rather go for the full week) but I suppose it's better than nuttin'! In fact, last night we were next door at his sister's house, celebrating my DNeph's 8th birthday, and my DH's brother mentioned that he had accumulated about 400 Visa points and offered them to us, figuring that he's probably not going to be visiting WDW any time soon, if ever again! Gee, I wish that I had such a generous brother.... [ ]

Kimmar: You're looking at "regular" season, so rack on a standard is something like $494!! Even with a 30%-35% discount, it's still a huge chunk-a-change!

I have a suggestion....... at least check it out and see what the cost would be!

Check David's: www.dvcrequest.com/ and the possibility of renting points. The cost will be WAY less than trying to book a resort room.

I don't think so. I just had a look at the availability at AKV for the dates you have stated and both Kidani and Jambo House had studios available in both standard view and Savannah view.

....this may sound snobbish of me, but the last three WDW visits didn't include a WDW-resort stay, and I REALLY want to stay, not only on-property, but at a WDW resort....I miss AKL....

Get on the phone to Disney this morning and have the CM look for discounts and explore your options. (Make sure you get a cracker-jack CM -- one who is enthusiastic to work with you. If not, end that call and try again! )
