WBPC May 6th 2013 Wonder

I was getting all excited that maybe the stop in Cartagena was cancelled. Maybe replaced with Aruba or somewhere more interesting with me. Nope. It's still on my itinerary with with the other half's tour. Oh well.

I am hoping to visit Cartegena but if it gets cancelled--I will be disappointed. Already been to Aruba.
No cabin number yet as our group is 300 people (same travel agent)
How many formal nights?4?

2 formal nights. They will be the first sea day and Cabo. One semi formal night. That will be the day after the canal.

I believe, and someone Please correct me if I'm wrong, that DCL can't cancel Cartagena without replacing it with another South American (or other "distant" foreign) port. They ran into trouble last summer with the ship transferring guests from one US city to another without a stop at a distant foreign port. We had booked a B2B Seattle /Vancouver/ LA, but they had us pick only one and had to cancel the other. Mexico/Canada or a Caribbean island are not considered "distant", according to maritime law?

Nope. They could replace with Aruba, Curacao, even go back to Costa Rica and have no problem. Yes I am sure. The 2011 cruise did not go to South America. We went to Aruba and Costa Rica.

Now that I think about it, this is the first WBPC that I will be on with DCL that stops in South America.

Ok, but where have the ports been on your other PCs? Am I correct in thinking that DCL would have to make another port stop if it cancelled the Cartegegna stop? Unless traveling through the canal itself counts as a distant port, our only other stops are CC and Mexico. From what I understood, those are not distant enough?

Well we have always stopped to get fuel outside of the canal. I do not know if that counts as a port stop. The others have stopped at Aruba and Curacao. 2011 also went to Costa Rica.

I'm sure we would be ok with just stops in PV and Cabo. They are the same ports they used for the Mexican Riviera cruises.

The difference is those cruise started and ended in the same port. That means the distant foreign port of call does not apply. All those cruises had to do was a foreign port. Like the Hawaii cruise. Ensenada was used to satisfy the foreign port requirement.

We have only sailed on the Wonder and the pass sold out on both of our MR cruises: one in January and one in April.

On the Pixar Cruise, we were able to get three day Rainforest Passes for 1/2 off! I think because we waited 'til day 3 & it was ALWAYS empty? I was hoping it might happen again, but now realise it may not  I love those nifty tiled chairs:)

I am really looking forward to Cartagena but Aruba was OK and I wouldn't mind going back to Aruba, but it is fun to go to a place you have never been.

I rather like the chance to see Cartagena though I am a little concerned of course. At the moment we have no excursion booked and not sure what we will do as I won't wander around on our own. We don't like all day tours, preferring up to about 4 hours at the most.

I think the EBPC's have stopped there in the past haven't they? We never did anything on Aruba the 2 times we docked there, just wandered around. I won't miss it to be honest. It is a shame they aren't stopping in Costa Rica again though. I believe some of the excursions were wonderful. But there was a lot of travelling to anywhere I seem to remember and that put a lot of people off. Again we just wandered locally and it was a very poor cruise docking place to be honest. There was another cruise ship we could see docked at the main place a little further along the coast so that might have been a better position.

None of the other PC cruises have stopped in Columbia. I believe this will be the first time.

My family was on the December EBPC and we stopped in Cartagena. We had a great time, got off the ship, found a taxi to show us around for 4 hours, paid him $50 plus tip. We went to the Monastery, Old Fort, Old City, and the "mall" the ship recommends to buy emeralds. We did not feel unsafe at any time.

The city has some interesting sights, like any other country keep your wits about you but for the most part the Colombians just want you to enjoy their country. The street vendors are a bit more aggressive than other places but not a big deal.

We will probably not do anything this time because we were just there, not because we don't feel safe. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Well, I really hope Cartagena isn't cancelled. It would be my first stop in South America and I'd like to add that to the continents I've been to!

We've done Aruba before, not Costa Rica, but either one would be less exciting IMO.
