Hmmm, when do you pass through? The welcome center Facebook page says they're open 8 to 5, so you might very well have missed it every time you've gone.

We go through right in the middle of the day based on the way I've scheduled our trips, so I've obviously just put on the dummy badge and missed it. Every. Time.

Or I wonder if perhaps I saw a sign and thought it was a come-on for one of the timeshare mousetraps..??

* sigh *

You probably thought it was just a regular rest area because that is what it looks like and actually is.

We should leave around 5am on March 1st so it might be us

Getting close...

Cool. You and Colleen27 will be on the road together. One wonders how close you both will be to each other at a point of the drive.

In any event, drive safely!

All the best. :thumbsup2

Planning out trip to WDW we are DVC members. We drove last year for the first time. We liked driving and enjoyed the savings so much we will be saddling up again this year. The only problem we had last year were our windshield wipers quit on us in Brunswick GA area during a down pour. So we had to stay over night in Brunswick and get the repairs done. We were hitting to many nasty thunder storms on the way down. If inot for that we would made it down in about 16 hours. We leave mid July does any one know of any major road project planned on I95 this year?

We probably won't even get close to each other, as they leave Michigan in the afternoon on the I75, and we are leaving from Montreal early morning and going down I81 ;)

Anyways, we'll all be there this weekend! :cool1:

All the best. :thumbsup2

Hello. We will be taking our first road trip this August to disney. We are leaving from south jersey right over the bridge from philly. Just looking for some suggestions on which roads to take. Any suggestions where to stop? We would like to do most of the driving in one day. Also from disney we are going to the outer banks. Amy suggestions that way. Thanks so much for your help!!!

Hello all :wave2: we will be doing our first driving trip to Disney from NYC this August DH wants to drive straight thru I really want to stop somewhere so we are debating on this I hate driving at night, we did our first driving trip to test the waters to Chicago last year and Loved it drove straight thru but we were so tired on our way back also drove straight thru but that was brutal, so for this trip I need you guys help I would like a hotel mid trip and any tips also have any of you guys rented a car just for the trip looking into this as well don't know if to rent round trip, or one way rental both ways undecided yet if taking our truck since the ac hasnt been the greatest much appreciated thanks!

Yep, two completely different routes. Now if you were coming from Ontario I'd be watching for you - we're about 2min from the border, you could practically wave as you passed by. :lmao:

I'll try to remember to post times and gas prices en route.

buzzmom12 and Happiest mommy,

What day of the week are you planning to travel? And what time of day will you set out? :listen: That'll help folks make recommendations. Some folks like to leave after work and get south of DC and call it a night. Some folks like to set out in the middle of the night after a long nap. Others like to start behind the rush hour traffic. Depending on what you are thinking, the recommendations could be anywhere from VA to GA (or even into FL!).

Our plan was to leave around 2-3 am on Thur. But looking at so many posts leaving after dinner wed is possible. I know we want to avoid dc traffic. Tx again.

we were thinking Friday around 2-3 am but not sure yet since I really don't like driving at night DH will be doing the bulk if not all but I just don't like being on the road at night even though i've read its best for my DD'S thats why i'm gathering information to see whats best undedided yet thanks!

OK, if you gals leave at 2 -3 am, you should make it through DC before it gets bad. We are at the southern tip of NJ, and make it up, around and past DC when we leave by 2:30 a.m. (and not all the roads to get up and around are highway...)

NYC to Brunswick, GA would be easily do-able with 2 a.m. departure and a 4:15 best case arrival time (15 min breaks every 3 hrs). Cherry Hill, NJ to Brunswick, GA with a 3 a.m. departure and a 4 p.m. arrival with the same idea of 15 min break every 3 hrs. I used Streets and Trips for the estimates.

Does that sound like enough time on the road? You want to stop sooner? Later? I've never actually stayed in Brunswick, but have stayed farther north near the Savannah airport. Lots of great choices in that area for hotels and it's 4-5? hrs left the next day to WDW.

We drive from New York at least twice a year the drive it not that bad. I find that if you leave at 4 am you will be to wdw no later the 9 pm. I have to children both under 4 and they are great on the trip it is differently do able in one day. If you want to stop Shavan Georgia is a good place because it only leaves you about four ours the second day. Good luck.

Thank you. I am thinking we will either stop at savannah or if we are still good keep going to Brunswick. Do you take 95 straight down? Thanks!!

We take 495 around DC (usually flip a coin as to which way we go but only because it's before morning rush!), and if we are approaching Richmond in morning rush hour, we will take 295 to divert around Richmond. The rest is just I 95. There's an I 95 Guide website that is pretty useful as you are getting to know the road.

Oh, and the Richmond area is the last place to find a Wawa until FL, so we usually stop at one there for coffee and such. That's about where our kids wake up and the fun in the car begins. :woohoo: (My kids love all day in the car. They don't like sleeping overnight so much anymore, so for now our regular way down is to do a schedule similar to what you are thinking).

HTH

Just booked the Faifield Inn & Suites in Kingsland right off of 95. It's only 3 miles frm the GA/FL boarder. Has anyone tired this hotel? The last time we stopped on the way down we ended up at a really bad hotel, we don't want to do that again.

Hi buzzmom12 and Happiest Mommy.

I am just over an hour from the Delaware Memorial bridge and leave home around 2:30 AM. This puts me into VA around 5:30 AM, before any traffic in the DC area. I am going through Richmond on 95 around 7 AM and entering NC around 8 AM, so have never had traffic problems on 95 in Richmond either.

You can use your expected start time and how long it takes you to reach the Delaware Memorial Bridge to figure out about what time you will be in both spots as compared to my trips.
