$25.49 for a Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou

Both are on the menu as stand alone items, it's a bowl of the gumbo (which I adore) and the mixed greens salad, not necessarily the cheaper choice but definitely a lighter option.

Hmmm... the menu I found online doesn't show either as an option (I'm looking at allears). Is there a better online menu?

Which restaurant menu are you looking at? Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans? After I re-read the PP's post about the sides, I noticed that the restaurant she orders the gumbo and salad at are Cafe Orleans (the "CO" in her post that I've quoted & bolded below). I'd initially thought she was talking about BB - was easy to miss the "CO" in her post - one of the downfalls of acronyms (which I'm generally a fan of). And I did see the gumbo & salad listed on the menu at allears.

We like to eat at both places, when we go to BB we all get a meal, when we go to CO I get the Gumbo and usually a small salad, DBF gets the MC, we share without asking for a split plate.

Hope that helps clear up some confusion.

My wife and I had seating against the bayou for our 1st wedding anniversary trip, and there was a mom with her in-laws and her two children under 3 next to us at a larger table. The entire time, the kids were walking around the entire restaurant grabbing at people's bags, taking items like silverware off of tables, and clanging forks and knives together. I usually keep my cool, but I kept giving the mom the dagger stares - she didn't care. I had to move to the opposite side of our table just to stop being hit in the back by the little boy with a butter knife. They finally left mid-way through dinner - no apology, nothing.

It was one of the worst experiences I have had at the BB and I've eaten there 10+ times in my life.

I'm all in favor of raising prices for the kids menu or reserving seats by the water for grown ups. It just killed the mood and ambiance for us.

If you get a steak or something, the prices aren't horrible. The BB is a novelty.

How about parents just do their job and control their children? Why raise prices or banish those of us with well behaved kids for something that someone else does? Especially at Disneyland! We enjoy going to BB every once in a while and expect to pay those prices because of the ambiance. It is easy to turn a $100 meal into a more reasonable $40 meal just by sharing. The portions are huge and you get a salad or cup of gumbo as well.

In my "everyday real" life:

$25 for a sandwich?! No way!

In my "we only go to Disneyland once every 2-3 years after budgeting and saving to have a magical vacation having fun and playing with our kids and saving my birthday money to have lunch at the Blue Bayou" life:

$150 for lunch enjoyed INSIDE the POTC ride we all love so much, having a legendary Disneyland Monte Cristo sandwich, sitting on the verandah of a stately house strung with paper lanterns, watching the boats float down the bayou, listening to the banjo and watching the fireflies in the twilight and seeing the wonder of it all in my children's eyes? Worth every single penny!!! When we can get to DL again this meal will be budgeted right in to our trip.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about it. $25 is pricy for an entree, especially a sandwich - I might pay that at home at a nice restaurant for a great steak or seafood dinner. But in Disneyland, which I can rarely afford to get to, inside POTC in that gorgeous atmosphere? More than worth it to me!

To me the solution is simple. A) Don't eat there if you don't like the price. B) If you are concerned about the cost, but still REALLY want to eat there, make the sacrifice of going less often so you can save more money between trips and afford to eat at the pricier restaurants when you do go. Or, C) Just pay it and enjoy!

For me, option B is it! I could probably afford to go more often if I budgeted my trips very restrictively, ate at in park restaurants as infrequently as possible, etc... but when I go to DLR I want to really GO for it and that includes eating at any restaurant I want! So I plan for that!

The menu on this site is not accurate- it only lists one item for lunch and the Disney site is a "sample" menu meaning it might or might not be accurate lol! Do you know if there is a place to see these stand alone items? My girls aren't going to love the food no matter what, so if there are more options than what the Disney menu lists it would be nice to see them

Actually, Sammy, there are no appetizers or side choices on the menu for Blue Bayou.

All entrees come with your choice of salad or gumbo and are served with Blue Bayou potatoes and vegetables. There are no appetizers.

I cannot link to the kid's menu, but the options are:

Roasted Beef Strip Loin - Child portion Beef Strip Loin served with roasted potatoes. $12.99

Chicken Breast - with spaghetti topped with marinara sauce. $8.99

Seared Salmon Filet - Served with Spaghetti. $8.99

Mickey's Cheesy Macaroni - Yummy noodles with creamy Cheddar cheese sauce. $8.49

Hi, I am making my first post to praise the chef at Blue Bayou who went to the trouble to make me a Gluten-Free Monte Cristo sandwich. From scratch! And at dinner (when this item is not on the menu). It was Delicious! And a dream come true, if just a little one.

I have had celiac disease for about seven years and while Disneyland does a pretty great job of providing gluten-free options at their restaurants, some signature dishes are not gf and pretty tempting.

On our first evening at DL we ate at Cafe Orleans and the chef came out to discuss the gf thing and I ordered the N'Awlins Vegetable Ragout (which was really good also). I mentioned we had reservations for BB two days later and I would have loved to try the Monte Cristo because I knew it was the specialty. He said no problem, I will make it for you and wrote down my name and reservation time.

When we got there on Sunday, a special entree salad (no bleu cheese or candied pecans, they have wheat) and the gf sandwich were prepared just as promised. I felt so special. (And yes, it tasted great, not like typical gluten-free breads at all.)

Totally worth the cost for me. We had a pretty good table too and were seated quickly since we had made reservations (and maybe because of the food "allergy" issue).

Yes, you can make a reservation just for dessert DBF and I like sharing a Creme brulee by the waterside if we have a chance to stop at BB during our trip!

So glad you had a great experience! Sometimes I'm tempted to order GF at DL but I never would have thought they would do the MC GF.

Yes, you can make a reservation for dessert only. You don't even need to tell them that's what it's for, just make the reservation and order dessert when you get there.
I think the recipe for the potatoes is floating around somewhere out there.
