The DCP, Pending, and YOU!

SO, the number one thing I see asked here and in the Facebook groups is...

"Golly gee willikers I've been pended! What does that mean??" << Actual Quote

First, a few things Pending does NOT mean:

1. It does not mean you have been removed from consideration. If you were removed from consideration you would receive an email saying so and you likely would not be reading this thread. Also your dashboard would say "No Longer in Consideration (NLIC)"

2. It does not mean that your chances of getting into the program have been greatly reduced. You have roughly the same odds of getting in as you did when you passed your WBI.

3. Your Dashboard will not say "Pending" but will continue to say "In Progress". Pending is actually a title completely made up by CPs to classify those who get the email stating that you are "Pending a final decision". Imagine that!

4. "You're not qualified or good enough". Simply not true. You haven't been NLIC'd yet and you could still be accepted! Even if you are NLIC'd that still doesn't mean you're not good enough because, you need to remember, with roughly 25,000 people applying there are going to be about 20,000 people who could be 100% qualified and still not get in. (Do not take those numbers as fact. They are VERY rough estimates)

OK, Now what pending DOES mean

1. You're on hold. Pending is Disney's way of saying, we'll get back to you when we get back to you.

2. You will more than likely be waiting a while. True some people hear back the next day or next week, but from what I've observed most people wait about a month beyond the "2 weeks" Disney tells you after your interview. (Take this with a grain of salt as this is just an observation not a "rule")

3. If you are an alumni who has a restricted rehire status more than likely you will be pended. This is because Disney has to send you paperwork to fill out and return.

(Disclaimer, I've never been pended myself)

Ok, If you're like the vast majority of people who apply for the College Program you've probably worn out the refresh button on your dashboard or email account by this time. RELAX. People tend to get upset or panicked when they get pended. Look at it this way, being pended and having to wait a little longer for an amazing experience is better than getting NLIC'd right off the bat. Keep in mind when it's taking a while for you to hear back, the programs office is responsible for not only CP applications, but PI applications also. So not only are they handling the thousands of CPs but also the thousands of PIs so it takes time to sort through everything.

No one knows exactly why someone might be pended. It could be a multitude of reasons which I won't go into because I don't have the slightest idea. Please do not call casting or the programs office and ask why you were pended or why you were NLIC'd. Often times they can't tell you or you might get a generic response.

I think that's it. This was a half serious half joking look at pending. If anyone has something I missed feel free to add it below or if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I know fall 2012 there were several people (5 that i know personally) who were pending and then NLIC that were then called about a month before their program start date to ask if they would like to come after all and were still available. I think most of them were QSFB and merch positions that were added due to the long soft opening period of NFL. Originally fall 2012 was not going to used to staff NFL because it would not open until halfway through our program but then soft openings were scheduled for Sep and ran for 2 whole months so they scrambled for more CPs to help spread the load.

The reason is hearse so take it with a grain of salt but it is logical. I know at least one person from the group got a NLIC after waiting for a month after her phone interview and then was later called and offer a position.

So don't give up hope because it isn't 100% no until the program season officially starts. However don't call casting or the programs office begging to be let in because that just wasted their valuable time and can get you blacklisted. A serious question is appropriate but the why didn't I get in, are there still spots, can I change my roll, etc should be left alone.

Thanks for this. I've heard so many conflicting things about the pending status, its nice to see it cut and dry somewhere.:yoda: very wise, you seem.

I didn't know they called people AFTER being NLIC'd. That's cool to know that even then there is still hope!

Thank you :) I've seen some wrong information posted here and there and lots of people asking about pending and stuff like that so why not create one central tread that addresses it?

The New Fantasyland is definitely a uniquely special circumstance, as I haven't heard it happening any other time.

Really a great thread to answer common pending questions, excellent idea! As someone who has been pended in the past there is no definitive answer as to why applicants are pended. If anyone tells you otherwise, it's speculation.

The one thing I'd like to add is that pending typically overwrites the "2-3 weeks" time period as it specifies that you will hear before the application deadline date. This means that you can hear anywhere from tomorrow to right before the deadline for an Acceptance.

In the meantime for those applicants who are pending, I would definitely recommend staying focused on school, work, and other day-to-day life happenings as it will make the process go quite quicker. ;)

Have a Magical Day! :smickey:

DD's first choice of roles is in entertainment/character performer (really hoping for the opportunity to be a mover). Is it possible that they might give her a "pending" status while awaiting the results of the audition on 3/14/13?

DD's phone interview is TOMORROW. We are both excited/nervous. She has a whopper of a head cold (hey, it's winter in Maine, it's not unexpected!) and is hoping this won't influence her interview. I know she's a little extra nervous as we have spent the $$$ on airfare for her to come audition in March... but what if she's not accepted? I know, we'll just have a Disney vacation, right? Not a terrible consolation prize!

This going to be a non-answer answer. She may get pended. She could also get accepted for character attendant (or whatever her #2 role is) pending the results of an audition. If she were to have a successful audition she would then be moved into the character performer role. If she had a poor audition she'd remain in the character attendant role. And don't worry about her having a cold. For both of my interviews, PI and CP, I had a WICKED cold and was severely congested. I used Afrin No Drip and it cleared me up enough to sound somewhat normal and I got accepted for my CP, and I'm still waiting on my PI. And if the worst that comes out of it is a Disney vacation then I think it's time well spent haha. Good luck!

Had to go back and reread this today, since I just got pended myself. The waiting is going to kill me....:scared:

One of my favorite disney bloggers was pending, til the very last moment, and then was accepted last year! Don't give up hope, fellow pending-ers. :)

Its the wait thats gonna kill me....especially since if I dont find out sooner I might miss out (end up finding a job or something and then it will be too late)... not that I wouldn't want to find a job instead... just been pumping myself up lately for this and now i sprang a leak XD

Has anyone ever heard of alumni with a non-restricted rehire (I don't know how else to word it, haha) getting pended? I spent a lot of time talking about my last CP in my interview this time around, and I just wanted to know if that was normal?

If I am unknowingly on restricted rehire, I'm hoping it shouldn't be an issue (my area manager told me I had to have a job for 6 months, and since I talked to her there hasn't been a single day where I haven't been employed). But you always have that "what if!" in that back of your mind, and I am definitely someone who worries like crazy.

It is likely your rehire status could be restricted. If you had to have a job for 6 months before being able to reapply then you must have had a restriction at some point. You can call casting directly to see what your hire status is if that is why you think you were pended.

They could have also pended you just because. I know some alumni who were accepted right away and some who didn't even make it into a second program.

Hi everybody - my dd was pending and just heard back yesterday - yes - btw, her phone interview was on Feb 22! :cool1:

So don't lose hope if you're pending!!
