I just tend to look at recipes and if they have lots of unhealthy items, creams, lots of cheese, ground meat, etc. I just avoid them.

Good idea!

I have been on a mission since January to clean out my 2 freezers on the top parts of my 'frigs and after this week I will be there. It is amazing to see my freezers again. I would go to the store and buy things then just freeze it. My freezers were packed. It took 2 months to eat everything ... that just tells you how much stuff was in them. It has also been fun to search out different recipes for things I have in the 'frig that I would never think of making. I just made a fennel, leek soup that turned out really great. (Not that any of the men in my family will eat it!

Darm men! That's how my house is, too. It sounds yummy though!

Oh no. I hope you feel better. We have a nasty flu going around that starts with a cold. I hope you don't get it. The cough just seems to linger ... BLAH! Get some rest.

Thanks. Today, out of the blue, my sinuses started draining. It's so crazy!

I am going to have to try honey in my coffee. My coffee is the only thing I can't seem to adjust for weight loss. Honey might be better than plain sugar.

I would love to be able to give someone peace of mind. Even it it was only for a day ... or a few hours. I would love to touch them and make all their worries go away for a short period of time ... or even forever. :goodvibes

That would be a wonderful power. I would put you on speed dial!

Hey Rose, you are running next to the wagon, but I know you are going to get swooped in! Glad your back is starting to feel better.

I would like to be able to read minds. I'm just not good at getting 'signals' I'm an extremely non observant person. I've tried to be more attentive but the shy in me comes out I guess.

This may be great, or may be trouble! I'm not sure I would want to know exactly what people are thinking!

I personally like the 1st pic for a tattoo.

Hi Jill!:wave2:

I moved to south Florida (Fort Lauderdale area) from New England about 17 years ago and never looked back. I HATED the snow, the cold, the ice, etc. I'll take a good old-fashioned hurricane any day!:lmao: My brother caught the bug and moved over to the west coast near Tampa a few years later and he loves it. :love: We kind of miss the drastic change of seasons, but being able to spend so much time outside more than makes up for it. It definitely is much more crowded than where we grew up, but there is always so much to do.:woohoo: And since both of us are two of the biggest Disney Dorks you could imagine, being 3 hours and 90 minutes away from the Mouse respectively, makes everything worth it! :mickeyjum I highly recommed it! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your info. I have a feeling we will get there someday, but not sure how soon that someday will be! Enjoy all your warm weather as it snows here.

I apologize because I am not going to be able to respond to everyone until later. I shivered all night and woke up at 3:00 on fire. My hands and feet have never, ever been that hot! It took me about 45 minutes to manage to get downstairs, take my temp (102.9), get some cold water, and take Tylenol. I just got out of bed and showered. Took temp again and still 100.9. So, I am going to post the QOTD and rest. I'll be back later, though, to catch up.

QOTD Monday, February 18

Other than eating healthy and exercising, what else do you do to stay healthy? Do you meditate or take vitamins?
It seems like I can use some advice :lmao:

Jill

I used to meditate and I think I need to start again. I also used to go to yoga every Saturday, but haven't been in awhile so maybe I'll start that again. I don't take any vitamins regularly. I sometimes take a multivitamin and vitamin D. I think I need to look into this more.

Mary•Poppins;47541854 said:
Hey Jill, please get better. It really sounds like you have the flu. Maybe call your doctor and they could prescribe that medicine for the flu (Thermaflu?). Just a thought. Try to drink lots of water and sleep.

Thanks! I'm hoping I'm getting over it now (fever finally gone), but if I'm not better toorrow, I am calling the Dr.

QOTD: I think I need to meditate more and I don't. Every time I say ... It can't get any busier, it does. However, since my oldest son is in college I am finding life a little slower. Part of the problem is I do this to myself. I volunteer for things when I really don't have the time. I get caught in the "try to be a good mom" and be involved with my children's activities vs. what is good for my sanity. Not sure if anyone else has this issue ... but thanks for listening!

Moms are always putting others first. Try to find some time for meditation!

And Happy President's Day! I looked for a positive quote from a lesser known president.

The President of the United States should strive to be always mindful of the fact that he serves his party best who serves his country best.
Rutherford B. Hayes

and

Must swear off from swearing. Bad habit.
Rutherford B. Hayes

I thought that one was funny. Have a great day everyone!

That Hayes quote is so funny! Thanks for the laugh.

Get some rest!! Thanks!

QOTD: I used to take a slew of vitamins and herbs. Since I stopped taking most of them, I actually don't get sick as much as I used to. I think I'm one of those types that healthy stuff like that seems to have a reverse effect on. I do take some medicinal mushrooms recommended by one of my ER docs and they do seem to help with keeping the knee pain to a minimum (except for this weekend). I also take Vit C to help with the absorption of one of the mushrooms I take. I also take glucosamine as well. I don't know if it's really helping, but I don't think it's hurting anything either.

Some people take so many vitamins or natural substances that I wonder if it is helping or hurting them!

That's interesting that you take medicinal mushrooms. I'm guessing it's better for you than pain meds, but I've never actually heard of anyone taking them.

Lisa, just sent my weight in.

So even though I've had a horrible week food and exercise wise, I'm still down a pound. I was hoping for the 170's by the end of the month and if I step it up, it might just happen.

Congrats on the loss and for your goal being so close!

Still haven't planked but my knee is feeling a million times better today so I'm going to attempt a plank and try to get a run in.
DS16 wants to do the ToT 10 miler, need to see if the money is available. DS12 wants to do the 5K that weekend, looks like my Disney trips may all become race trips. LOL

OK gotta jet. We are having a tea the museum next weekend and we need to finish cleaning and prepping.

I hope you get to do the ToT 10 miler. It looks like so much fun!

DH's schedule is a bit out of whack today and he won't be home to start the oven for the vegetable casserole I had pulled out for today, so I'm not sure it will get eaten tonight.... which makes me a bit sad because I was REALLY looking forward to it!

Off to read what I've here since yesterday afternoon!........P

I was going to ask if the recipe was over on the recipe thread, but I see you mentioned below that it is. It sounds so yummy!

I see my Chiropractor when I can. Two years ago I could NEVER imagine myself saying that. I was a total NON-BELIEVER in chiropractics.... but he has helped SO MUCH!

I have a friend that goes to a chiropractor for headaches. He also gets massages at the office. How has a chiro helped you specifically? I'm just curious because I've really never considered going before.

I also try hard to get enough sleep and I take vitamins. DH takes a TON of supplements and vitamins and I truly believe he has gone over the top with them. But I do take a women's multi-vitamin, high dose vitamin D, and I was taking fish oil but have changed to flaxseed oil. I'm growing more concerned abou the health of our oceans and decided that eliminating my fish oil supplement was a good way to help reduce the overfishing and by-catch that is killing our healthy ecobalance in the deep blue.

I also take a vitamin B complex because I've heard it helps with metabolism, but the smell/taste makes me gag so much that sometimes I skip it. Never noticed any great change either way in my weight when I am taking it or not taking it.

Lol. Some pills smell so terrible!

Forgive my redundancy if you saw this post on the exercise thread, but I thought this is too motivating a story for everyone here not to read. :goodvibes

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/201...p-myeloma-patients-up-and-running?ft=1&f=1001

Thank you for sharing!

Awww...sorry to hear you are sick jill.... Get some rest. Thanks!

QOTD?

Upon doctor's recommendations, I eat yogurt every morning AND take a probiotic capsule at night.

Well, I hope that that combo is helping you!

That is it so far.

I am looking into taking other stuff like cod liver oil for my skin.

I get my blood drawn on Wed so if all is well that will be it for now.

Hopefully, everything will look good and you won't need anything else!

Feel better Jill! Thanks!

QOTD--I take Vitamin D, not every day, but as often as I can remember.

Lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one who cannot remember to take vatamins everyday. Have you tried putting them where you have to see them ever morning? I have. Didn't work :rotfl:

knee is better today. now my legs are sore from moving stuff at the town museum. But I'm going to hit the treadmill for a few minutes.

A bit of NSV news. Now that I am 16 pounds lighter than I was when I started WISHing, I can wear other shoes without aggravating my PF. I am on day 4 of wearing my Asics sneakers and minimal heel pain. And before that I wore heeled boots (the ones I used to not be able to zipper) for 3 days. I just wore my New Balance for 2 days in between. Used to, I'd wear a different show for 1 day and be right back to level 10 pain in my right foot.
The NB shoes were the only shoes that made me not hurt.

I am a happy camper!

Yay for the shoes and no pain!

Oh--poor girl...

I take every am:
vita D
cranberry (2)
multi
hair, skin nails (2)
raspberry ketone

I'll meditate pretty rarely anymore. When I do I always get the results I want. My meditating consists of a lot of wicca ritual that I never gave up, and includes scrying with a crystal.
I try to keep my allergies under control, and yeah I get local honey every spring. When I exercise I always warm up for at least a few minutes and stretch everything I'm going to use. After is longer stretching and hopefully the jacuzzi or long hot shower at the gym if I don't have time for it (rare lol) That's to eliminate soreness.

Sounds like you have a routine down!

Well that run went horribly. I kinda figured it would because my legs had been bothering me all day but wow, it was bad. Tops of my feet hurt, fronts of my ankles, shins, calves, you name it. But the knee was fine, go figure. Need to figure out why the tops of my feet hurt so much, shoes were loose, I make sure of that. Good running socks. It was sheer determination that got me through. Lots of gritting of the teeth.

Still managed to squeeze in 56 minutes of intervals, 5 minutes of yoga and 2-1 minute planks.

Taking a rest day tomorrow even though I took 7 days off. Might just focus on yoga.

Sent from my iPhone using DISboards

You still managed to excerise! But, please don't push it and end up injured.

Good Tuesday morning everyone

I am also working on a new show at the local high school. We are doing Grease. It should be a lot of fun but we are still short on costumes. I could go this evening after dinner but I have decided I won't be going. Already too long of a day.

Love, love, love Grease! Have fun!

QOTD Monday, February 18

Other than eating healthy and exercising, what else do you do to stay healthy? Do you meditate or take vitamins? It seems like I can use some advice

I have been trying to meditate and I have to work a little harder at it. I do take some vitamins. I take Flaxseed oil instead of fish oil. It is easier on my stomach (dr said it was okay last week when I talked to her about it). I am also low on D so I am taking a D supplement. I am also taking Tart Cherry extract to help with arthritis inflimmation. The days I don't take it I do feel worse in the joints so I think it is working.

Have a happy and healthy day.

I have heard that cherry extract is great for arthritis. Oh, duh, my grandma takes it. That's why I heard that lol. I think I'm going to look into flaxseed oil. Do you take a capsule or liquid?

Happy Tuesday!!!

My physical is over and I got an EKG, a chest Xray, and she seemed to think that my jaw pain is my eustachian tube in my ear. YEA!!! At least it is not my teeth...A puff of Flonase daily is what she thinks will take care of it.

Today I get my permanent crown at the dentist. So that part of getting healthy will be checked off.

Now I will be working on my feet and my eyes.

Oh and I got a Jury Duty thing in the mail. Yea me.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

It sounds like you made some time for yourself and are getting everything straightened out. Way to go! I've only been called for jury duty once and didn't get picked for a trial. Hopefully, it'll be short and sweet for you!

So I managed to get my butt out of bed at 5am and get 30 minutes done on the elliptical this morning. I absolutely DESPISE getting up that early to work out, but I am SO over the scale either not moving or moving in the wrong direction. Put my foot down yesterday and measured my food, did not give in to temptation, and basically decided that I'm sick and tired of this nonsense! Had my WW weigh in yesterday, was a little up, proceeded to have a bad day at work, followed up by a bad night at yoga. Glad to be rid of the "Mondays!" That goal weight is just hanging there at arm's length and it feels like there's a big fat wall between me and it. UGH!!!

Way to go with working out and getting back on track with not giving in to temptations!

As it was, I didn't finish eating dinner until 8pm. It was delicious though! I had made a layered ratatouille (recipe available on the recipe thread!) in September with the last of my garden/farmer's market produce (zucchini, summer squash, eggplant, tomatoes) and put it in the freezer to enjoy during the long winter and last night was the night! It was absolutely DELICIOUS! I need to remember do it it again this summer.... and put away several of them. It tasted like SUMMER in Italy (not that I've ever been to Italy). Absolutely scrumptious! I'm sad that it is all gone, but I have a friend who grows hothouse organic tomatoes for a co-op and I often get "extras" so I plan to make this ASAP when I get some tomatoes from him! The other stuff it isn't so vital that it be local and such.... but the tomatoes MUST be "summer" tasting!

Tonight's menu is Asian lettuce wraps (recipe and photo over on the recipe thread too!). My family actually likes them so much that DS wanted to skip robotics tonight so he didn't miss it! I told him I'd be sure to save some for him. Tonight is their FINAL NIGHT before the big competition this weekend! It is a "work til it's done" type of night. He heads there right from school, so I had to pack up an extra lunch sack for him.

Both recipes sound so yummy. I'm not sure it would be a big win with DH and DSs though.

Off to see if there is a QOTD yet. I know Jill wasn't well yesterday.... wouldn't blame her for staying in bed today! .................P

Thanks Pamela! I'm here...barely!

AHHHHHH!! I'm like the worst coach ever! I woke up this morning to call off work, and went back to sleep. So, I just woke up and came downstairs. Yep, still sick :( Sorry this is late and I will reply today!

Here's your QOTD:

QOTD Tuesday, February 19

We all know it important to start your day with breakfast. Do you eat breakfast everyday? What is your favorite healthy breakfast?

Jill

I eat breakfast daily. My favorite in cold months is slow cooker oats. I found a recipe on All Recipes. In the summer, I usually have a bowl of high fiber cereal and a hard boiled egg.

Jill, you are NOT the worst coach ever. Thank you for posting the QOTD and don't worry about replying. Just take care of yourself and get to feeling better! :flower3:

Thanks for the kind words!

Post #3 is updated with all PMs through yesterday. Check out our pretty colors! :rainbow: We even have a couple of lovely lime green folks already! :yay:

Please let me know if you think that there are any errors as there are lot of you and just one of me!

Be back later to catch up on QOTD and replies. Hang in there!

Jill

Weekdays I have 2 weetabix with fat free yoghurt, half a banana and a handful of blueberries. On a weekend I might have a fried egg sandwich (Wholemeal bread), or toast and marmalade...the marmalade I have at the moment is excellent...lime, tequila and chilli, it's very hot, but lovely.
Okay, I have no clue what weetabix are lol. And that marmalade sounds delicious!

You are not a bad coach!! I came down with a bug yesterday and am feeling horrible and cannot imagine how I would keep up with coaching at all feeling ill!!!

Get better soon!

Oh no!! I must've passed it to you :lmao: Hope you feel better soon!

Our coaches have all been amazing--posting from their phones, through sickness and health for better for worse....you've all raised the bar pretty high...I'm glad I'm hosting soon I need it. My numbers have stayed the same fluctuating higher this week and I need them to be lower. Taking the kittens in at 1 today to get their boosters, think I'll try working out later as the animated shorts are at 4:10 today.

Breakfast-- big fan. Bagels with fat free cream cheese or hummus, eggs with lots of veggies and cheese, cereal with berries or bananas, smoothies.
I thought about asking if the vet could take a look at Misty today when I took the kittens in but I wouldn't want to do that to her and I'm pretty sure about her. I'm going to clean the closet out today and fix her a spot. Think I'll take out some of my bags of pants that are too tight and try some on for motivation as well, since they are in that closet.

Do you make your own hummus or buy it? Do you have a favorite kind? I love hummus but have never had it with a bagel. How did you visit to the vet go?

C'mon chica stop it! Everybody gets sick now and then.:love: Thanks!

Geez! You have booze in your marmalade!! I'm living in the wrong country :)
- melinda
::yes::::yes:::thumbsup2

Thankfully, I've gotten into the breakfast eating habit, but not as soon as I wake up. The belly has to wake up too. I think I eat basically the same thing every day: toasted bagel, banana, orange, or cantalope, and either scrambled or hard-boiled egg whites. I usually end up eating a couple of hours later and snacking on fruit/yogurt or almonds. I'm especially spoiled as my DH usually makes me a bagel sandwich every Saturday morning and serves it to me in bed :love:. I think I'm on to him though :idea: - I think it's just a ploy to wake me up early since he's such an early riser and can't wait for me to roll out of bed around 10!
Breakfast at your house sounds pretty yummy!

Hey Jill, you are an awesome coach. I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. Hope you are on the road to recovery soon. I hate calling off sick from school when I don't feel good and it is not planned. Luckily I have a great teaching partner and we take care of each other. It is sometimes a nightmare trying to write everything down for a sub. (I am always thinking of you Pam, when you are subbing.)

QOTD: Since January I have made a real effort to eat breakfast. I LOVE to eat breakfast, but I never leave myself enough time to get up and eat it on the weekdays. I usually grab a yogurt and pack some fruit. I will eat the yogurt when I first get to work and the fruit I will nibble on between my classes. I made steel oats the other day and really liked them. I will have to buy more of them.

Thanks Fran! I hate calling off, too. Since I work in such a small, private school, I emailed and texted the other teachers and they help cover me. I think I may call off tomorrow, too. I think my fever may finally be gone. Now I am hoping it doesn't come back tonight. I am just so tired.

Good job eating breakfast daily! I usually take breakfast to work and have fruit as a snack between classes as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I am finally all caught up! I think my fever is gone for now, so I am feeling a little better. I hope it stays away so I can sleep peacefully tonight instead of shivering. I think I may call off again tomorrow to be on the safe side. Plus, I don't want to get anyone else sick.
I've been trying to stay away from DSs so they don't get sick. It's so quiet with them downstairs. I feel like I'm missing out on stuff :rotfl: DS6 just popped in my room and asked if I was better. And, DS9 brought his recorder home from school to play me Hot Cross Buns. They are too sweet!
Anyhow, I am going to get going and get ready for bed. I am just so tired. I hope you all have a great night and morning. I'll be here at some point in time to post the QOTD,
Jill
Do you make your own hummus or buy it? Do you have a favorite kind? I love hummus but have never had it with a bagel. How did you visit to the vet go?
I buy it but I need to look into making it-- I'm sure I could make it less caloric that way. Right now the most healthy thing I do with it is add sun dried tomatoes. I found the ones I used to buy at Costco in the bag at a local grocery supply store so will need a visit there soon. It's a fun place to go, and they have those big things of lunch sized sun chips that would really work for me right now. Vet visit went well considering I was a day early lol. They took me anyway-- one of the ladies there is a fellow Disney fanatic think that gives me some pull there lol. (they're just really nice) It was kind of funny I wasn't planning on working out early I was going to go later but I got really behind surfing the Disney store. Decided to check and see if the Olszewski Hitchiking ghosts was back on the site yet and it was! Got it for husband because he wanted it when we were there and I discouraged him becuase I wasn't sure if it would make it back ok on the plane. Of course it hasn't been available since we got back...Anyway I got so excited I forgot I had a $25 gift card and a $5 gift card from Disney so I had to call them and fix it. I also hurriedly added a Mickey water bottle I had been eyeing because of the free shipping. Really didn't bother to ask the vet anything becuase she is getting so heavy--just in the middle.
Cleaned my closet out tonight for her and went through 3-4 bags of pants I put away becuase they were all too small and gained back at least 10 pairs of pants. Woo hoo-- my own NSV!
There's a few that are a little tight but those are good to leave out for motivation.
Good Wed morning everyone.
I had such a long day yesterday that by 9 I asleep on the couch. I had a crappy night sleep. I was awake every hour for some reason.
Just wanted to stop in and say hello.
I just got in some yoga and off to have breakfast.
Have a happy and healthy day
Good morning all!
I am sitting here hungry and thirsty. I have to get my blood drawn at 8am. Blah....I want my coffee!:surfweb:
I bought another pair of Yoga Pants at WalMart. Man I love those things.
Not much to report really. Things are chugging along and I am starving!!!
DH is getting his blood drawn today to. We are going head to head in blood draws.:lmao:
Good morning
QOTD yesterday. Oh yes I eat breakfast. It is so important in healthy eating. I feel like so many women have convinced themselves that they can't eat breakfast since its the easiest meal to skip and we feel like we save some calories. My BFF always tells me eating in the morning makes her sick but I've seen her plenty of egg mcmuffins in the morning and we've gone to breakfast after dropping the kids off. I've read about people dropping weight easily by just reversing their meal sizes. I can't remember the saying but eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a ? And dinner like a peasant. So many people tend to skip breakfast and load up on a big dinner late at night. On my work days a drink a protein shake (metrx abt 260 calories and high protein) since I can't take breaks for a snack at work and sometimes lunch gets pushed back so it keeps me plenty full. I e gotten into those jimmy dean delite breakfast sandwiches. It's the first microwave breakfast sandwich that's tasted edible. It's actually good! I do the sausage egg muffin.
Well I'm not sure hat happened last night at the store w the kids in tow - well I know that was my first problem right there! And Tom is soon approaching. But I ended up w a package of peeps and a package of double stuff Oreos oh and some iced animal cookies in my cart. I let the kids each pick 1 treat a week but I caved on the peeps. I ate 2 peeps and 3 Oreos lady night :(
Guess its on the treadmill for me this morning!!
I'm determined to get my new curtains hung in the bedroom. I've never "done" our bedroom before because its the room no one ever saw so we never cared. But in our new house I'm doing it up nice! Just got my chocolate brown tufted king size headboard. I want a chandelier but not sure what hubs will think.
Have a great day!!
I guess I skipped the breakfast question and I should answer this one....
I actually had to CUT DOWN my calories at breakfast. I am someone who can easily down 2000+ calories at breakfast. Yep.:rolleyes1
Now I try and keep it 300-500.
My favorite healthy breakfast would be a "garden benedict".
Includes a whole wheat english muffin, egg whites, slice of tomato, dash of shredded cheddar (just to taste) with a side of steamed aparagus.
(In the past I would make hollandiase sauce and use ham in it as well and a whole poached egg.) OK, now my mouth is watering....so hungry.:lmao:
Happy Wednesday morning friends! I'm at work today and so won't have much time to chat, but I wanted to pop on and say good day! I will have a bit of time later this morning when the kids head to P.E. to come back and read and answer the QOTD, but for now I have 8 minutes left and I haven't found the full lesson plan yet! :confused:
Hope you all have a WONDERFUL healthy day full of good eating and FUN exercise! Make sure your CHOICES are taking you in the direction you want to go! .........P
Glad to be rid of the "Mondays!"::scared: That goal weight is just hanging there at arm's length and it feels like there's a big fat wall between me and it. UGH!!!:faint:
Hang in there! You are working so hard. It may be one of the things that just falls into place when you least expect it. :cool2: You may also want to review how you came to choose your goal and whether your body is trying to tell you something else about that number.
Here's your QOTD:
QOTD Tuesday, February 19
We all know it important to start your day with breakfast. Do you eat breakfast everyday? What is your favorite healthy breakfast?
I do eat breakfast every day. It is usually an english muffin and protein, either an egg or string cheese. Later in the morning I may have fruit. On Sundays I fix french toast -- which is really not much different than toast and eggs. ;)
Weekdays I have 2 weetabix with fat free yoghurt, half a banana and a handful of blueberries. On a weekend I might have a fried egg sandwich (Wholemeal bread), or toast and marmalade...the marmalade I have at the moment is excellent...lime, tequila and chilli, it's very hot, but lovely.
Weetabix and bingo wings -- we learn a lot of fun things from our folks who live in other countries! :flower3:
You are not a bad coach!! I came down with a bug yesterday and am feeling horrible and cannot imagine how I would keep up with coaching at all feeling ill!!!
Get better soon!
Hope you are feeling better soon! :flower3: We have a stomach bug here.
Geez! You have booze in your marmalade!! I'm living in the wrong country :)
:lmao:
Good Wed morning everyone.
I had such a long day yesterday that by 9 I asleep on the couch. I had a crappy night sleep. I was awake every hour for some reason.
Just wanted to stop in and say hello.
I just got in some yoga and off to have breakfast.
Have a happy and healthy day
Hope you can get some rest tonight, Dona. :flower3:
I'm determined to get my new curtains hung in the bedroom. I've never "done" our bedroom before because its the room no one ever saw so we never cared. But in our new house I'm doing it up nice! Just got my chocolate brown tufted king size headboard. I want a chandelier but not sure what hubs will think.
Sounds like a lot of fun! princess:
Have a great day all!
AHHHHHH!! I'm like the worst coach ever! I woke up this morning to call off work, and went back to sleep. So, I just woke up and came downstairs. Yep, still sick :( Sorry this is late and I will reply today!
Take care of yourself! Rest, relax, drink tea, and sleep!!Here's your QOTD:
QOTD Tuesday, February 19
We all know it important to start your day with breakfast. Do you eat breakfast everyday? What is your favorite healthy breakfast?
Jill
I love breakfast! I try to NEVER miss it! I like lots of different breakfast foods. I stick mostly with just a few.... egg white... usually in omelets and wraps with veggies and sometimes some cheese; steel cut oats... usually cooked overnight in the crockpot; greek yogurt with fruit and a bit of Fiberone cereal; cottage cheese with fruit or plain; and on the weekends, for a special treat, I sometimes make my flaxseed pancakes (Dr. Oz recipe).
Less frequently, but good in a pinch is instant oatmeal, instant grits, Vitamuffins (sometimes with my eggs), cheese stick and fruit.
Weekdays I have 2 weetabix with fat free yoghurt, half a banana and a handful of blueberries. On a weekend I might have a fried egg sandwich (Wholemeal bread), or toast and marmalade...the marmalade I have at the moment is excellent...lime, tequila and chilli, it's very hot, but lovely.
Mmmm.... that marmalade sounds interesting! Do you break up the weetabix and put it in yogurt or eat it separately?
You are not a bad coach!! I came down with a bug yesterday and am feeling horrible and cannot imagine how I would keep up with coaching at all feeling ill!!!
Get better soon!
Feel better! Take care of yourself today too!
Our coaches have all been amazing--posting from their phones, through sickness and health for better for worse....you've all raised the bar pretty high...I'm glad I'm hosting soon I need it. My numbers have stayed the same fluctuating higher this week and I need them to be lower. Taking the kittens in at 1 today to get their boosters, think I'll try working out later as the animated shorts are at 4:10 today.
I agree.... we have AMAZING coaches and hostesses here! We are so blessed!
Breakfast-- big fan. Bagels with fat free cream cheese or hummus, eggs with lots of veggies and cheese, cereal with berries or bananas, smoothies.
I don't usually think of hummus for breakfast... but I should try to remember it!
I thought about asking if the vet could take a look at Misty today when I took the kittens in but I wouldn't want to do that to her and I'm pretty sure about her. I'm going to clean the closet out today and fix her a spot. Think I'll take out some of my bags of pants that are too tight and try some on for motivation as well, since they are in that closet.
Triple good job.... making a spot for the Mom-to-be AND cleaning out the closet... plus finding some "new motivation" clothes!!
Thankfully, I've gotten into the breakfast eating habit, but not as soon as I wake up. The belly has to wake up too.:upsidedow I think I eat basically the same thing every day: toasted bagel, banana, orange, or cantalope, and either scrambled or hard-boiled egg whites. I usually end up eating a couple of hours later and snacking on fruit/yogurt or almonds. I'm especially spoiled as my DH usually makes me a bagel sandwich every Saturday morning and serves it to me in bed :love:. I think I'm on to him though :idea: - I think it's just a ploy to wake me up early since he's such an early riser and can't wait for me to roll out of bed around 10! :scared1:
Enjoy the special treatment, no matter what the reason. And YES, us early risers are not above the trick of making a special breakfast to get the sleepy heads in the house to WAKE UP!!:thumbsup2
Hey Jill, you are an awesome coach. I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. Hope you are on the road to recovery soon. I hate calling off sick from school when I don't feel good and it is not planned. Luckily I have a great teaching partner and we take care of each other. It is sometimes a nightmare trying to write everything down for a sub. (I am always thinking of you Pam, when you are subbing.)
Thank for thinking of me! :goodvibes I think today's teacher had a bit TOO MUCH confidence in my ability and left me VERY SKETCHY plans! Plus I had to start an entirely new math subject! While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I am NOT schooled in your math curriculum and it was a struggle for me to accurately teach latitude and longitude to these 4th graders! I was definitely going straight from the book!
QOTD: Since January I have made a real effort to eat breakfast. I LOVE to eat breakfast, but I never leave myself enough time to get up and eat it on the weekdays. I usually grab a yogurt and pack some fruit. I will eat the yogurt when I first get to work and the fruit I will nibble on between my classes. I made steel oats the other day and really liked them. I will have to buy more of them.
Have you made them in the crockpot? I have two crockpot steel cut oat recipes over on the recipe thread.
Some people take so many vitamins or natural substances that I wonder if it is helping or hurting them!
I think to some degree it is helpful, but I'm afraid that DH is looking for the "easy way" to get healthy. He managed to lose the weight and keep it off for over a year now, but he rarely exercises (i.e. never), sits ALL DAY either working on his computer or watching TV, and doesn't eat as healthy a diet as he could (he never eats veggies unless he is out at a restaurant or I am there to prepare them.... if he is home alone it is eggs and bacon or sardines).
I'd like to see him concentrate a bit more on eating better and exercise and not worry so much about the HUGE QUANTITIES of supplements.
Thanks Pamela! I'm here...barely!
Like I said, take care of yourself and we will be just fine!
I eat breakfast daily. My favorite in cold months is slow cooker oats. I found a recipe on All Recipes. In the summer, I usually have a bowl of high fiber cereal and a hard boiled egg.
I should remember to hard-boil some eggs for the fridge more often. We all enjoy them.
Okay, I have no clue what weetabix are lol. And that marmalade sounds delicious!
I think they are like an oversized shredded wheat pillow.
Thanks Fran! I hate calling off, too. Since I work in such a small, private school, I emailed and texted the other teachers and they help cover me. I think I may call off tomorrow, too. I think my fever may finally be gone. Now I am hoping it doesn't come back tonight. I am just so tired.
You don't do anyone any good if you bring the illness to school, right? So NO GUILT! Stay home and get well!
Good job eating breakfast daily! I usually take breakfast to work and have fruit as a snack between classes as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, I am finally all caught up! I think my fever is gone for now, so I am feeling a little better. I hope it stays away so I can sleep peacefully tonight instead of shivering. I think I may call off again tomorrow to be on the safe side. Plus, I don't want to get anyone else sick.

I've been trying to stay away from DSs so they don't get sick. It's so quiet with them downstairs. I feel like I'm missing out on stuff :rotfl: DS6 just popped in my room and asked if I was better. And, DS9 brought his recorder home from school to play me Hot Cross Buns. They are too sweet!

Anyhow, I am going to get going and get ready for bed. I am just so tired. I hope you all have a great night and morning. I'll be here at some point in time to post the QOTD,

Jill

SO nice of the boys to take care of you! That is something IMPORTANT to teach them!

Good Wed morning everyone.

Good morning all!

I am sitting here hungry and thirsty. I have to get my blood drawn at 8am. Blah....I want my coffee!:surfweb:

I bought another pair of Yoga Pants at WalMart. Man I love those things.

Not much to report really. Things are chugging along and I am starving!!!

DH is getting his blood drawn today to. We are going head to head in blood draws.:lmao:

Fingers crossed for great numbers on the labs!

Good morning

QOTD yesterday. Oh yes I eat breakfast. It is so important in healthy eating. I feel like so many women have convinced themselves that they can't eat breakfast since its the easiest meal to skip and we feel like we save some calories. My BFF always tells me eating in the morning makes her sick but I've seen her plenty of egg mcmuffins in the morning and we've gone to breakfast after dropping the kids off. I've read about people dropping weight easily by just reversing their meal sizes. I can't remember the saying but eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a ? And dinner like a peasant. So many people tend to skip breakfast and load up on a big dinner late at night. On my work days a drink a protein shake (metrx abt 260 calories and high protein) since I can't take breaks for a snack at work and sometimes lunch gets pushed back so it keeps me plenty full. I e gotten into those jimmy dean delite breakfast sandwiches. It's the first microwave breakfast sandwich that's tasted edible. It's actually good! I do the sausage egg muffin.

Breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Pauper is what I've always heard. And I KNOW I should do the same.... but I have a hard time with it because I'm always afraid I'll run out of Points before I run out of hunger at the end of the day!! I'm trying MUCH HARDER lately to eat at least 5 Points for breakfast... I usually stick with 2-3... sometimes 4.

Well I'm not sure hat happened last night at the store w the kids in tow - well I know that was my first problem right there! And Tom is soon approaching. But I ended up w a package of peeps and a package of double stuff Oreos oh and some iced animal cookies in my cart. I let the kids each pick 1 treat a week but I caved on the peeps. I ate 2 peeps and 3 Oreos lady night :(

Guess I'm lucky my kids never go to the store with me any more!
:lmao:

Guess its on the treadmill for me this morning!!

I'm determined to get my new curtains hung in the bedroom. I've never "done" our bedroom before because its the room no one ever saw so we never cared. But in our new house I'm doing it up nice! Just got my chocolate brown tufted king size headboard. I want a chandelier but not sure what hubs will think.

Sounds fancy!!

I guess I skipped the breakfast question and I should answer this one....

I actually had to CUT DOWN my calories at breakfast. I am someone who can easily down 2000+ calories at breakfast. Yep.:rolleyes1

Now I try and keep it 300-500.

My favorite healthy breakfast would be a "garden benedict".

Includes a whole wheat english muffin, egg whites, slice of tomato, dash of shredded cheddar (just to taste) with a side of steamed aparagus.

(In the past I would make hollandiase sauce and use ham in it as well and a whole poached egg.) OK, now my mouth is watering....so hungry.:lmao:

That garden benedict sounds absolutely delicious! I love tomato and egg together. Maybe I'll make something like that this weekend for a special treat for us all. Maybe instead of hollandaise I'll make a light cheese sauce.

************

Okay friends! Kids are off to P.E. and after P.E. it is a weather movie, recess duty, and then lunch! So the day is clicking right along.

I don't think I mentioned my screw-up yesterday. I was SO proud of myself for planning ahead and having breakfast AND lunch for Monday and Tuesday packed up in the fridge, ready to grab. Then on Monday I grabbed breakfast and lunch, but forgot my water. Yesterday I got to school, opened my breakfast, and discovered I had grabbed the extra canned pears instead of my cottage cheese and fruit.:headache: But I did remember my water yesterday.... but honestly!

I got it all right today, but did forget to pack a morning snack (cheese stick). But I ate half of my lunchtime apple at 10:30 and will have the other half after my lunch. For lunch today I brought leftover Asian lettuce wraps from last night. I had another day of quinoa stew on the menu, but the lettuce wraps won't keep for long... plus they were so good! I had mine with sauteed tofu... the rest of the family had them with the traditional lean pork.

Did my hour on the TM last night but the foot was bothering me again... plus my neck hurts again today. I think I need to lay off of the TM until I can get some new shoes! But it is the end of the month and the $$ is tight, as usual, so I will need to either pull it out of savings or wait until after the 25th (DH gets paid once a month).

I've got 8 minutes to take a potty break and then go retrieve my kiddos in P.E. and queue up the movie! TTYL............P

1. Food scale.... hands down!!

2. Measuring spoons.

3. Glasslock food storage containers! They enable me to make up meals ahead and warm them at school/work without worrying about cooking in plastic!

Jill....are you feeling any better??................P

QOTD?

The Biggest Loser FOOD scale.

It really made me "SEE" what is a serving for 2000 calorie diet.

Just using that simple nutritional guideline on the package has made a huge impact on actually losing weight.

pjlla......I put the weetabix in the bottom of a bowl, then pour the yoghurt over. I then go fo my shower, do hair, get dressed etc, then come back and add the fruit before hasty consumption (I'm always runnung late!!). The weetabix go a little softer with this method, but still ahve a bit of crunch which I like. I find that if I use milk they just disolve into a porridge-like mush.

My excellent Santuko knife (spelling??) and my 'V' slicer. I used to spend hours chopping away with ineffective knives, but now salads and veggies almost chop themselves. Much less effort required to create healthy meals.

Hmm, Staying out of it! Lol :)

I hate to cook, I'm a terrible cook and when I go into the kitchen, nothing good comes of it. I'm trying to learn a few simple healthy recipes, other than salad. Oh yeah, I also make a really good cup of tea using my Kuerig!

Hi everyone - Jill is posting such interesting QOTD, sorry for not participating but some nasty bug has decided to reside with me. Might even be the flu. My eating is kind of all over the place as I just try to find stuff that is easy. Of course my 30 Day Shred has come to a complete stop... I guess once I feel better I will restart with a few days on level 1 before trying to get back onto level 2... In the meantime, I hope everyone else is being successful, I am counting on all of you to help me get back into the good habits of journalling food and exercising once I am healthy again!

The blender. I have to start making my breakfast smoothies again....

Did a little online research last night found out that alcohol not only adds empty calories but also could slow down metabolism. Well-- it burns itself before it burns fat for sure anyway. So I've decided to keep it to 4-6 oz a night and no more than 8. I ordered Capsaicin tabs to take at night with my drinks and found an easy recipe I like for vodka--just hot sauce, water and vodka, kind of bloody mary but good not gross. I added some chilli peppers spices to it. I still like 0 calorie tonic water because it helps my restless leg thing but it does have aspartame so I will cut back on that. I also take my prozac at night and that has been proven to slow down metabolism, so hopefully the chilli pepper tabs will help spike it a bit. I also ordered some L-arginine to take before my workouts.

Have to jump on the kitchen scale bandwagon here!::yes:: Just knowing what ounces look like has made a big difference in portion sizes.

Get some rest and feel better! My goodness, what is going around on this board everybody?!? Eat up some of those yummy Florida oranges! If you don't have any, I can definitely send some! :hug:

Lisa-I figured out the goal weight by the WW info about BMI. Now, I'm not a fan of BMI as it doesn't take into account what is actually making up the weight (lean muscle mass versus everything else), but I thought it seemed realistic. Plus, I remember reading somewhere that a good proportional weight based on height is 100 pounds up to 5 feet, then 5 pounds for every inch above that. Sorry for our friends across the pond, I don't know what the metric conversion would be!:confused3

On a side note, the DH was officially hired today for a new job he's wanted for the past year!:cool1::woohoo::dance3: Ironcially, he will be officially retiring from his old job after 25 years and starting the new one all on the same day. He's going through the whole range of emotions at the moment, but we're both so happy and excited!!!.:cheer2::banana::hyper:

Hmm I used to have a food scale but I never use it now - maybe I should lol. I really feel like I have a grip on what a portion size is my problem is I just don't care :)

I love my vitamix. I'm not a veggie fan at all and making smoothies w veggies in them is great for me.

I saw this on dr oz today about your calories and when to eat. A study was done and people ate the same amt of calories per day but laid them out differently (more in the am vs more in the pm) and the people who ate 60% of their calories before 3pm (I think) lost more weight. Not always easy!

Well I got 1 curtain hung. Hanging curtains is really a 2 person job :) but I did not want to wait.

Scale, measuring spoons and cups are key for me. And the Internet. The fact that a lot of places post their calories online really helps. I've noticed that MFP is not accurate most of the time so searching online has helped.
Yesterday we had Wendy's for lunch and I was able to customize my chicken sandwich online to know that the sandwich had 220 calorie bread. I swapped it out for my Arnold thins and saved 120 calories.

Ok, so I know I shouldn't complain because there are bigger issues in the world, but...... My pants and undies keep sliding down!! Lol
I just bought new undies but last week they were a little snug, guess I need to try them in again. But these yoga pants are brand new! I won't buy new yet, I think I'll have my mom take them in a bit.

Also had a good moment today. Went back to the kids old school because DS12 still participated in sports there and it felt good walking into the building 16 pounds lighter and looking better in my clothes. I didn't realize it until I was looking in the mirror getting dressed for the meeting, that part of the reason I packed on the pounds and kept it on because that building sucked the life out if me. Every time I hear about the drama there it really solidifies my decision to pull the kids out. I know many of you remember how hard it was making that decision.
