WISH Away the Pounds -- Fantastic February Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

I am going through all the photos and adding borders. I am also enlarging some of the really nice ones of the boys together or all of us together to put in 5x7 or 8x10 frames. I also change some to back and white. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will as soon as I get the dvd. I don't use any photo sharing sites. I just upload to Walgreen and print when they have a good code. I can actually walk to our Walgreens, so I just order regular and they are usually done in one hour.

I never tried adding anything. I usually just get the basic DVD, order the photos from Walgreens when I get home, and then put them in the scrapbook.
Guess I should look at Photopass more closely next time!

DS loved scuba last night. They just learned basic hand signals and about the equipment. Then they swam in the shallow end for a bit and played underwater Frisbee. Next week they are going to try to work together to build something with pvc pipes (I can't remember what though) and they will also be doing a simulated night dive the last week with the lights out & using flashlights. He is so excited.

Sounds like fun! That "night" diving sounds interesting and a bit scary!

I just looked at the Cooking Light site today. I found a couple recipes that I may print out. I tend to agree that I get a cookbook but only use 1 or 2 recipes out of it. Good luck on that spring cleaning plan!

I've got an issue of Cooking Light sitting next to my bed right now that needs to be returned to the library, but I'm still copying recipes.... that I will probably never use!

~~

Well, my plan for the day did not pan out at all. I did upload my pictures from our camera and my phone to Walgreens. But then I started not feeling too well. I woke up with a nasty cough and I was just feeling tired and achy. So, I helped DSs build an old fashioned dining room chair and blanket fort, then rested on the couch. DS6 declared me sick when he felt my head and said it was hot. I took my temp and was 100, so not really a fever, but I took some cold meds for the couch and aches. I eventually made a quick dinner then fell asleep on the couch. I feel a tad better now. I hope I feel better tomorrow since my sister is having us over for her and my nephew's birthdays. Not that I need cake or ice cream, but it'll be a fun family time.

It sure is a quiet day here today. I hope everyone is having a good day and enjoying the weekend. I may be back later to post the QOTD for tomorrow in case I feel better and I am rushing the kids out the door for Sunday School and church.

Jill

Oh my! Feel better soon! I was sick before Christmas and it was no fun! It seems that whatever is going around is hitting quickly and leaving quickly too. Hope you are better today!

Good morning! I woke up still not feeling too well, so the kids are going to miss Sunday school (DH is sleeping after working midnights so he can't take them). So, I am going to post the QOTD and take some meds and relax. I'll check in throughout the day.

We are missing church today as well. Guess we had better stay home and pray for each other!

QOTD Sunday, February 17

It's a fun question today! If you could possess one "power," what would it be and why?

Jill

The power to transport and take others with me. I would transport my kids and I straight to Main Street USA every chance I got!! No long waits at the airport (and no more expensive tickets!), no overnight hotel stays.... just a quick "pop" down to Disney for the day! (Or to Hawaii or Paris for that matter! I was always SO jealous of Samantha on "Bewitched"!)

ETA: DD just got up and said her super power would be the ability to breathe under water! No surprise there!

****************

Happy snowy Sunday friends! Of course, winter storm warning today since we have to drive up to VT again. :rolleyes2

DD swam SO WELL yesterday! Got achieved a new PB in both her 100 Freestyle and her 100 back! Fingers crossed for today's swims! :yay:

DS's robotics team took home FIRST PLACE yesterday in their "week zero pre-competition"! This bodes really well for the "real" competition coming up next week! It will be a crazy, busy, tiring week for DS and his team, as they try to make some last-minutes changes and tweaks to their robot, but it seems like they are definitely on the right track!:banana:

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to pop on again yesterday. When I came on the home computer to upload a photo to share, the monitor went down on me (we've been having trouble with it since December) and then the wifi at the swim venue was very poor, so I gave up trying to get online there.

I ended up having to do some timing at yesterday's meet, so I didn't have time to finish up my meal/exercise plan for the week. I'm hoping to get it done this morning to share before I leave again. And I'm working Monday, Tuesday, and maybe more this week, so I probably won't be online a lot.

Off to eat breakfast and work on my plan!.................P

Good morning & happy Sunday!!!!:goodvibes

Cripes my mouth is bothering me. Sorry for the vent. I was drilled on to get a crown a couple of weeks ago and the other side of my jaw hurts. Gak...I am ringing up the dentist tomorrow for sure!

Tomorrow, I go for my physical with my PCP. :thumbsup2

Is there ever a day that you are pain free when you are "old"?:headache:
-------------
QOTD?

Well since I get to choose without any "rules" here I am going to say "immortality". :3dglasses

Sort of like in the TV show "Heroes" when "the cheerleader" was able to be "injured" but then put herself back together and look fine.

I want to see the future and live in it. I want to watch time pass, be there for new discoveries in medical, space, technology, etc....

QOTD Saturday, February 16

Do you have a favorite healthy magazine or cookbook? Where do you find healthy recipes? Or, do you just make healthy adjustments to recipes that you already have?

Jill, I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. I'm sending you oodles of good thoughts and pixiedust: for a speedy recovery! Why do you have to be sick on a the week-end? :flower3:

I am a long time subscriber to Cooking Light magazine. They consistently have good recipes and they aren't all complicated or full of weird ingredients. I have been reading Prevention on my Kindle for the past couple of months -- it was some special as well as the WW magazine. I have always loved the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook -- think 1970's version with the plaid cover but, of course, it is probably not the healthiest. It's like my family's cookbook. DH's family lives by Joy of Cooking. I do a lot of recipe searching by Google, All Recipes and whatever I can find. Thanks to the internet there is no shortage of good things to try! :thumbsup2

Oh, and Jill I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets in trouble with the smilie police! ;)

Good morning!

I have a lot of cookbooks but no favorite. Basically I read a recipe and then adjust it to what I want. Most of my cooking is done without a recipe. I have been looking for "heart healthy" recipes and "low fat" recipes at the present moment.

I am considering getting rid of most of my cookbooks (not all)! I love books and this would be very hard for me, I am a book junkie.:eek:

We do not alter food much. Steam or saute veggies, grill, roast, broil meats/fish. I have been cooking like that for a long while already.

Now I just eat smaller portions and I MAKE SURE that there is a veggie or 2 on that plate every time.

Have a great Saturday!!!

I would keep the cookbooks for now -- maybe it's the bibliophile in us but we always seem to regret getting rid of books, even if it is just for the chance to leaf through them again. With your smaller portion and veggie strategy there is nothing that you can't enjoy! ::yes::

With the thaw and refreeze the whole lot is an ice skating rink in the mornings. I hit a bad spot and kind of slipped but caught myself. Must have twisted me knee somehow.
Never made it to the chiro, my head hurt so much I just laid down instead. Of course my head and my back still hurt today, I need to go back on Monday.

Hope you are feeling better today! :flower3:

Re: a previous QOTD, I can't even remember the date but I have not had a soda in more than a week - maybe 2. I had no tea made the other day and water seemed boring so I opened a can of DHs diet coke (not my usual coke zero) had a sip and it was terrible!! So I poured my ice water and realized I preferred it. OMG have my tastes changed. I hope I can keep this up!

What's the opinion on Splenda? I here mixed things. Better than aspartame for sure I plan to only use it in emergencies!!

Congratulations on the loss and the soda moratorium! :yay: I'm not a fan of any artificial sweetener -- I would rather take the hit for the real deal but YMMV. :hippie:

I've been doing my plank everyday and walked the dog everyday but one (but that was because I went grocery shopping that day and by the time i got home it was dark).

DH and I went out to eat on Valentine's and I didn't count calories that night so it was a bit of a cheat. I still show a loss for the week so I guess that's good but its not as much as I would like. :P

I hope to get better at replying to all but in the meantime, I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful weekend!

:woohoo: on the planks!

Sorry I haven't been posting this week, but I have been keeping up with the thread at least. I haven't really had any computer time, but I do read on my phone any time I get the chance so I don't get behind. I do want to try to catch up with the QOTD though!

It's always nice to see you when you do get a chance to pop in! :flower3:

I received my 2013 WDW planning dvd in the mail today!! I signed up for it awhile ago.

I am such a dork I literally got goosebumps when I opened it and read

"The Fantasy Awaits Lastname Family" :cloud9:

What is wrong with me?? :laughing:

:lmao: No worries, you are in good company! :smickey:

Susan, using honey as a sweetener is supposed to help fight allergies if it is local honey. Not that anything is blooming around us yet but it will be! :flower3:

Pamela, Cooking Light recipes are available online at http://www.cookinglight.com/food/recipe-finder/ so you can get to them when you need them and not have to worry about copying.

How do people organize their favorite recipes? I need to work out folder or something on my computer that I can get to easily although I do miss paper sometimes. :rotfl:

QOTD Sunday, February 17

It's a fun question today! If you could possess one "power," what would it be and why?

Jill

Hope you are feeling better soon! :flower3: Rest and take care of yourself. :hug:

Do we have to use our powers for good?!? :rotfl: I think I would wish for speed so I could run faster. :teeth:

Hi everyone. I've just been lurking lately, but thought I'd do a brief report. I'm still doing my plank a day challenge. I'm up to 49 seconds! I should be at a full minute by the end of the month:cool1: Then I think I'll work up to 2 sets of 1 minute planks. Don't want to get too ahead of myself though. The weight loss is coming along, but slower than I'd like this month. Not sure if I'll reach my monthly goal, but I'll still weigh less on March 1 than I did on Feb. 1. (And that is what really matters, right?)

QOTD: I always tell my kids I wish I had Elastigirl's power. (You know, Mrs. Incredible.) Then I could just sit in my chair all day and stretch to get whatever I needed. Of course, that power would not help with weight loss:rotfl:

:lmao: Good job on the plank!

I will be updating the list tomorrow so please PM your weigh in info if you haven't already. I've replied to all the PMs I received so if you didn't get a PM from me, you know you haven't sent it your update. :goodvibes

Have a great day all!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

My superpower? Be a great healthy cook :)

I just watched " Hungry for a Change" on Netfix. What a great movie! I recommend everyone watch it :)

Melinda

To answer the saute favorites question back to jill....

I recently sauteed some fresh spinach & dash sea salt and was careful to keep it so the heat did not "destroy" the leaves too bad.

I also like to saute green beans because unless they are super fresh they are always so leathery. I add some flavor to the pan as well. A dash of parmesan is always good with some garlic. If they are really fresh, I would steam them.

I like to saute mushrooms as well esp. to add it to a dish.

Sounds familiar. Either I've seen it or it is on my instant queue. I watch a lot of food, health, and environment documentaries. I'll check if I've seen it. I know the two I've watched most recently were "Chemerical"and "Veducated".

MMmM...sautéed veggies ! Try throwing in a handful of sundries tomatoes with the green beans. I usually buy the ones packed in olive oil, but I drain them and blot them....otherwise they are VERY oily.

The wifi here at the pool venue today seems to be working great! We are here early. There was snow flying around at our house so we left early, but the further north we got the less snow was around, so we made it in plenty of time ....although the wind is absolutely whipping! My poor little CR-V was all over the road!

I made up my food plan for today thru Tuesday for the entire day, plus I have my dinner menus planned for the week. I'll plan the rest of my meals once I've done some grocery shopping.

Breakfast and lunches for Monday and Tuesday are packed up and in the fridge, ready to go. I also have extra lunches ready in case I get called to work other days.

I was going to get my work clothes laid out and ironed for Mon and Tues as well, but I ran out of time after feeding the family breakfast and a nice hot lunch, doing laundry, making beds, meal -planning, etc. but I'm glad we had a chance to have a hot meal together. I made curried carrot soup (recipe available on the WISH recipe thread) and cheese toast plus hummus was available.

BBL to chat more!..........P

Hi everyone, sorry for not being around much. Yesterday evening was quite awful - headache and TOM combined.

I did skip the 30 Day Shred - but I knew going in that that one day every month would be hard to keep with program and already counted on skipping it for that one day. And I immediately got restarted today. So that's three days of level 2, just another week to go. I am think I am getting a love-hate-relationship with level 2 as partly I enjoy it because it is so challenging. But then I also hate it because I have so much trouble with some of the movements that I feel I don't get the exercise that I should be getting. There are so many plank movements where I just lack the upper body strength and therefore have to pause and hence loose out on the lower body workout. Well, I guess the only way to improve that is to train my upper body strength in order to be more balanced.

The great things is that I notice how the abs training has really improved my core stability and I find that I am using my abs much more in daily life than I ever did. For example I live on the fifth floor and don't have an elevator, so I am used to stairs. Once I got used to it, I only hate it when I have to carry lots of things up (like suitcases coming home from vacation). But the other day I realised that getting up those stairs is even easier when I engage my abs as well. It is things like that that really keep me motivated as I realise that gaining strength makes me feel much better!

I am also behind on the qotd, so here are my answers:

QOTD Saturday:

I actually just bought a new cookbook which I am very excited about trying out, it's called "Moosewood Restaurant low-fat favourites". It is a vegetarian cookbook. Since I discovered that I need to make sure to get enough protein I have become a bit tired of chicken and lean pork (my two standard meats) and I thought I ought to look into recipes with non-animal protein. I started reading it and there are some interesting things in it.

Besides that my overall favourite cookbook is "How to Eat" by Nigella Lawson. It is not at all a healthy cookbook. The title comes from that she says in order to be a good cook you need to learn how to enjoy eating. But she does include a section which she calls "Temple Food" which is healthy low-fat meals. A few of those have become classics for me. Also some of her other dishes can be easily adapted. I think it is the only cookbook I have from which I have made truly a lot of dishes and so far all of them were a success and there are still many more which I want to try.

QOTD for Sunday:

My Superpower would be to cover large distances extremely fast. I have so many friends all over the world and it is difficult to stay in touch if you don't see each other regularly. Travel is time-consuming and expensive and I often wish I could meet my friends just for a nice chat in person instead of on the phone.

Happy Sunday everybody!:wave2:

I'm usually non-existent on the boards on the weekends, but as it's a chilly 58 degrees out :scared: (ok, you call stop laughing at me now! Don't forget I live in SOUTH Florida :sunny:)I decided to camp out on the couch under a blanket with the DH and Wonder Mutt and catch up.

QOTD: This is going to sound incredibly middle-aged, but I would be happy just to have the power to run more than 10 miles PAIN-FREE! ::yes::

How do people organize their favorite recipes? I need to work out folder or something on my computer that I can get to easily although I do miss paper sometimes. :rotfl:
I am starting to save everything to pinterest (thank LTS!) and then printing them out or just lugging my laptop into the kitchen when I cook. I have a whole pile of printed ones that I have a folder for. But if you are using them right off the computer or laptop, then I think pinterest works pretty well. Would love to hear other suggestions.

DisFam95--congrats on giving up the soda! I kind of feel the same way about splenda that I do about aspartame...it is still very processed, and I felt like I had the same sugar cravings. I know some people like stevia--but honestly I have not tried it yet--or at least not knowingly. :goodvibes

****
I am still not doing so great with the food, but I am still running along side the wagon, so hopefully someday soon I will get my act together. I made a good meal plan for this week, so that's a start!

I had a nice nsv yesterday which was just what I needed. We ran into a couple that we hadn't seen in years and the first thing they said was--wow you lost a lot of weight. So even if I am a bit frustrated with where things are at right now, I am still so much better off than I was 3 years ago. If we hit spring though and I haven't dropped some pounds I am going to be buying new clothes yet again, and I guess that is what is frustrating me right now.

Still keeping up with my mile a day. Off to do my rehab exercises. I have pt in the morning. My back is not perfect, but it is much improved which is awesome!

Happy Sunday! :)

QOTD Sunday, February 17

It's a fun question today! If you could possess one "power," what would it be and why?

I tell my kids all the time that I wish I could teleport myself. We talk all the time about where would we go if we could teleport there right now.

Great job keeping up with the plank a day. And, yes, weighing less is much better than weighing more :)

I hear ya on the Elastigirl power. I swear as soon I sit down, the kids need something else! But, I think you're right. It's probably not too good for weight loss :rotfl:

Sharing this I found on FB this morning:

I was just looking at Cooking Light online. I really liked some of the recipes, but I need to check it out again after the kids go to bed and I have peace and quiet! My mom was a huge Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook fan. I should see if she still has it and "borrow it" (which means taking it & probably not returning it since she rarely cooks big meals as it is just her). I agree, I don't know what people did before the Internet!

Oh, and Jill I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets in trouble with the smilie police! ;)

I love those little buggers :thumbsup2

My Superpower would be to cover large distances extremely fast. I have so many friends all over the world and it is difficult to stay in touch if you don't see each other regularly. Travel is time-consuming and expensive and I often wish I could meet my friends just for a nice chat in person instead of on the phone.

This sounds like the perfect super power for you!

Happy Sunday everybody!

Oh, so sorry you're freezing. I'm toasty warm at 19 degrees today. :rotfl2: Where in Florida are you located? DH is looking at jobs in FL and wants to move north of Clearwater. Tarpon Springs maybe.

QOTD: This is going to sound incredibly middle-aged, but I would be happy just to have the power to run more than 10 miles PAIN-FREE! ::yes::

I would love to just be able to run 10 miles! 10 miles or more is awesome!

I love Pinterest, too.

Yay for the NSV! Sometimes I think we are hard on ourselves and lose sight of how far we've come. You're doing so great with that mile a day! Thanks for more inspiration. And, I'm glad you're back is a little better. I hope it keeps improving fast for you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmmm...I think I killed the thread! There doesn't seem to be many people on lately.
Well, it was a pretty uneventful day here. I did get to the grocery store and went to my sister's for a bit. But, I am back in my pajamas and getting ready to finish grading some papers. My midterms are due Thursday, so I need to get some grading done asap! I am feeling a little bit better, so I hope I feel a lot better tomorrow!
I'll be back in the morning with our next QOTD.
Jill
QOTD Saturday, February 16
Do you have a favorite healthy magazine or cookbook? Where do you find healthy recipes? Or, do you just make healthy adjustments to recipes that you already have?
[/SIZE
I'll be back in a bit to catch up :)
Jill
I just tend to look at recipes and if they have lots of unhealthy items, creams, lots of cheese, ground meat, etc. I just avoid them.
I have been on a mission since January to clean out my 2 freezers on the top parts of my 'frigs and after this week I will be there. It is amazing to see my freezers again. I would go to the store and buy things then just freeze it. My freezers were packed. It took 2 months to eat everything ... that just tells you how much stuff was in them. It has also been fun to search out different recipes for things I have in the 'frig that I would never think of making. I just made a fennel, leek soup that turned out really great. (Not that any of the men in my family will eat it!:lmao:)
Well, my plan for the day did not pan out at all. I did upload my pictures from our camera and my phone to Walgreens. But then I started not feeling too well. I woke up with a nasty cough and I was just feeling tired and achy. So, I helped DSs build an old fashioned dining room chair and blanket fort, then rested on the couch. DS6 declared me sick when he felt my head and said it was hot. I took my temp and was 100, so not really a fever, but I took some cold meds for the couch and aches. I eventually made a quick dinner then fell asleep on the couch. I feel a tad better now. I hope I feel better tomorrow since my sister is having us over for her and my nephew's birthdays. Not that I need cake or ice cream, but it'll be a fun family time.
It sure is a quiet day here today. I hope everyone is having a good day and enjoying the weekend. I may be back later to post the QOTD for tomorrow in case I feel better and I am rushing the kids out the door for Sunday School and church.
Jill
Oh no. I hope you feel better. We have a nasty flu going around that starts with a cold. I hope you don't get it. The cough just seems to linger ... BLAH! Get some rest.
I put honey in my coffee. My Dad was doing this the last time I visited, so I started doing it and have been doing it for about 10 years. Sometime
s I add a little stevia, agave, white sugar or splenda and I always have to have a liquid creamer.
I am going to have to try honey in my coffee. My coffee is the only thing I can't seem to adjust for weight loss. Honey might be better than plain sugar.
QOTD Sunday, February 17
It's a fun question today! If you could possess one "power," what would it be and why?
Jill
I would love to be able to give someone peace of mind. Even it it was only for a day ... or a few hours. I would love to touch them and make all their worries go away for a short period of time ... or even forever. :goodvibes
Hey Rose, you are running next to the wagon, but I know you are going to get swooped in! Glad your back is starting to feel better.
Good morning! I woke up still not feeling too well, so the kids are going to miss Sunday school (DH is sleeping after working midnights so he can't take them). So, I am going to post the QOTD and take some meds and relax. I'll check in throughout the day.
I would like to be able to read minds. I'm just not good at getting 'signals' I'm an extremely non observant person. I've tried to be more attentive but the shy in me comes out I guess.
Sharing this I found on FB this morning:
Thanks!
Didn't eat any veggies or fruit today but I feel ok with this right now. I was thinking earlier that it was because I ate more earlier so I wasn't as hungry later. Will pack and apple for lunch and maybe a banana too. My pants are getting noticeably looser, which is encouraging. I want to really try to work on my triceps since that will be where I'm getting my tattoo. I'm a total wuss it comes to pain of any kind...my work buddy is hooking me up with his artist so I feel good about that, it's a reputable, clean place and it will be reasonably small with only black and pink ink. Pink in the ears and maybe gold for the eyes. I've decided on this:
Although this is adorable:
I'd want to crop it just him in the bed.
Misty's tum is betting bigger by the day. We found a box to put in our closet although I think we're a few weeks out yet.
Hi Jill!:wave2:
I moved to south Florida (Fort Lauderdale area) from New England about 17 years ago and never looked back. I HATED the snow, the cold, the ice, etc. I'll take a good old-fashioned hurricane any day!:lmao: My brother caught the bug and moved over to the west coast near Tampa a few years later and he loves it. :love: We kind of miss the drastic change of seasons, but being able to spend so much time outside more than makes up for it. It definitely is much more crowded than where we grew up, but there is always so much to do.:woohoo: And since both of us are two of the biggest Disney Dorks you could imagine, being 3 hours and 90 minutes away from the Mouse respectively, makes everything worth it! :mickeyjum I highly recommed it! :thumbsup2
:sick: I apologize because I am not going to be able to respond to everyone until later. I shivered all night and woke up at 3:00 on fire. My hands and feet have never, ever been that hot! It took me about 45 minutes to manage to get downstairs, take my temp (102.9 :(), get some cold water, and take Tylenol. I just got out of bed and showered. Took temp again and still 100.9. So, I am going to post the QOTD and rest. I'll be back later, though, to catch up.
QOTD Monday, February 18
Other than eating healthy and exercising, what else do you do to stay healthy? Do you meditate or take vitamins?
It seems like I can use some advice :lmao:
I just have to say I am jealous! :goodvibes It was a whopping 8 degrees here this morning. I am off today and wanted to run ... but the cold put a big kink in that idea. My husband and I dream of visiting warmer places in the winter someday. We talk about downsizing our house to something small and then renting something for a month or two at a time. We would like to go to different places, Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc. Ahhhh a girl can dream. :upsidedow
Hey Jill, please get better. It really sounds like you have the flu. Maybe call your doctor and they could prescribe that medicine for the flu (Thermaflu?). Just a thought. Try to drink lots of water and sleep.
QOTD: I think I need to meditate more and I don't. Every time I say ... It can't get any busier, it does. However, since my oldest son is in college I am finding life a little slower. Part of the problem is I do this to myself. I volunteer for things when I really don't have the time. I get caught in the "try to be a good mom" and be involved with my children's activities vs. what is good for my sanity. Not sure if anyone else has this issue ... but thanks for listening! :goodvibes
And Happy President's Day! I looked for a positive quote from a lesser known president.
The President of the United States should strive to be always mindful of the fact that he serves his party best who serves his country best.
Get some rest!!
QOTD: I used to take a slew of vitamins and herbs. Since I stopped taking most of them, I actually don't get sick as much as I used to. :thumbsup2 I think I'm one of those types that healthy stuff like that seems to have a reverse effect on. :confused3 I do take some medicinal mushrooms recommended by one of my ER docs and they do seem to help with keeping the knee pain to a minimum (except for this weekend!:scared1:). I also take Vit C to help with the absorption of one of the mushrooms I take. I also take glucosamine as well. I don't know if it's really helping, but I don't think it's hurting anything either.:confused3
A heads up to you all that I will not be updating until tomorrow due to a little technical problem so if you haven't PM'd your weight you have the rest of the day. Sorry! :flower3:
I will be back later to catch up!
Lisa, just sent my weight in.
So even though I've had a horrible week food and exercise wise, I'm still down a pound. I was hoping for the 170's by the end of the month and if I step it up, it might just happen.
Still haven't planked but my knee is feeling a million times better today so I'm going to attempt a plank and try to get a run in.
DS16 wants to do the ToT 10 miler, need to see if the money is available. DS12 wants to do the 5K that weekend, looks like my Disney trips may all become race trips. LOL
OK gotta jet. We are having a tea the museum next weekend and we need to finish cleaning and prepping.
Hello friends! Work day has been busy without any time to come chat! After school it is straight to the Y to drop off DD, hit the grocery store myself, and then dashing home later to fit in a short workout, laundry, and get ready for tomorrow..... so forgive me if I don't get a chance to pop on again today.
It was SO NICE to have my breakfast and lunch for today planned and packed up! I was able to look at my food plan for the week, grab the appropriate meals and snacks, toss them in my bag, and be ready to go.... except I forgot my water, which I've never done! oh well.
DD swam well yesterday, but didn't make the times she was looking for, so she was a bit disappointed.
We got home about 9pm and DH and I were starving (didn't want to take the time to stop and eat), so I'm afraid dinner was a bit uninspired.... leftovers. And I did have my planned Sunday night splurge (handful of peanut butter M&Ms that I have been craving like MAD!), but also indulged in a second handful of dark chocolate M&Ms (not my favorite). Journaled them and moved on this morning.
DH's schedule is a bit out of whack today and he won't be home to start the oven for the vegetable casserole I had pulled out for today, so I'm not sure it will get eaten tonight.... which makes me a bit sad because I was REALLY looking forward to it!
Off to read what I've here since yesterday afternoon!........P
The great things is that I notice how the abs training has really improved my core stability and I find that I am using my abs much more in daily life than I ever did. For example I live on the fifth floor and don't have an elevator, so I am used to stairs. Once I got used to it, I only hate it when I have to carry lots of things up (like suitcases coming home from vacation). But the other day I realised that getting up those stairs is even easier when I engage my abs as well. It is things like that that really keep me motivated as I realise that gaining strength makes me feel much better!
how great!
I am also behind on the qotd, so here are my answers:
QOTD Saturday:
I actually just bought a new cookbook which I am very excited about trying out, it's called "Moosewood Restaurant low-fat favourites". It is a vegetarian cookbook. Since I discovered that I need to make sure to get enough protein I have become a bit tired of chicken and lean pork (my two standard meats) and I thought I ought to look into recipes with non-animal protein. I started reading it and there are some interesting things in it.
Besides that my overall favourite cookbook is "How to Eat" by Nigella Lawson. It is not at all a healthy cookbook. The title comes from that she says in order to be a good cook you need to learn how to enjoy eating. But she does include a section which she calls "Temple Food" which is healthy low-fat meals. A few of those have become classics for me. Also some of her other dishes can be easily adapted. I think it is the only cookbook I have from which I have made truly a lot of dishes and so far all of them were a success and there are still many more which I want to try.
I like watching her on the Food Network, but none of her stuff seems very "light."
QOTD for Sunday:
My Superpower would be to cover large distances extremely fast. I have so many friends all over the world and it is difficult to stay in touch if you don't see each other regularly. Travel is time-consuming and expensive and I often wish I could meet my friends just for a nice chat in person instead of on the phone.
Um.... NO SYMPATHY FROM ME!! Sadly, it was 11 degrees here when I left the house this morning and I thought that sounded okay! I was actually surprised that we didn't have outdoor recess today. Yesterday's wind was SO TERRIBLE and it made it so absolutely bitter cold to be outside!
My Mom called whining from the Vero Beach area that it was "really, really cold" at about 48 degrees! She got no sympathy from me either!
QOTD: This is going to sound incredibly middle-aged, but I would be happy just to have the power to run more than 10 miles PAIN-FREE! ::yes::
Actually, that isn't too middle-aged sounding. 10 miles is a big distance for anyone to run without some sort of pain.
I am starting to save everything to pinterest (thank LTS!) and then printing them out or just lugging my laptop into the kitchen when I cook. I have a whole pile of printed ones that I have a folder for. But if you are using them right off the computer or laptop, then I think pinterest works pretty well. Would love to hear other suggestions.
I am mostly a paper recipe girl, but if I haven't tried something yet I might just use my iPad the first time... then if it is a keeper I copy onto my computer and print up a paper copy for my recipe "pile". That way I haven't wasted any paper if it wasn't worth keeping.
I am still not doing so great with the food, but I am still running along side the wagon, so hopefully someday soon I will get my act together. I made a good meal plan for this week, so that's a start!
Still keeping up with my mile a day. Off to do my rehab exercises. I have pt in the morning. My back is not perfect, but it is much improved which is awesome!
Happy Sunday! :)
Much improved is definitely AWESOME! Sorry you have been struggling with the food. Wish I could do something to help you out.
I tell my kids all the time that I wish I could teleport myself. We talk all the time about where would we go if we could teleport there right now.
We used to do that when my kids were little.... but it got us craving Disney too often!
Yum! I think I'll try the spinach sometime soon. Have you ever sautéed asparagus? I really love asparagus but never make it at home? I need to find out how.
I really enjoy my asparagus grilled or roasted.
Hmmm...I think I killed the thread! There doesn't seem to be many people on lately.
Nahhh... that's my job!
Well, it was a pretty uneventful day here. I did get to the grocery store and went to my sister's for a bit. But, I am back in my pajamas and getting ready to finish grading some papers. I hope someday to follow my KIDS to sunny FL! I know that DD wants to live in the south (warmer oceans for SCUBA and study). Not sure about DS. He wanted to be an imagineer for a LOOOOOONG time, but I'm not sure he still has that same dream.
How nice that you ended up there with your brother!
Other than eating healthy and exercising, what else do you do to stay healthy? Do you meditate or take vitamins?
Jill
I see my Chiropractor when I can. Two years ago I could NEVER imagine myself saying that. I was a total NON-BELIEVER in chiropractics.... but he has helped SO MUCH!
I also try hard to get enough sleep and I take vitamins. DH takes a TON of supplements and vitamins and I truly believe he has gone over the top with them. But I do take a women's multi-vitamin, high dose vitamin D, and I was taking fish oil but have changed to flaxseed oil. I'm growing more concerned abou the health of our oceans and decided that eliminating my fish oil supplement was a good way to help reduce the overfishing and by-catch that is killing our healthy ecobalance in the deep blue.
I also take a vitamin B complex because I've heard it helps with metabolism, but the smell/taste makes me gag so much that sometimes I skip it. Never noticed any great change either way in my weight when I am taking it or not taking it.
Okay friends! I'm caught up to here and have 5 minutes to spare before I make a bathroom stop and pick up my students from Computer. I have a headache that has steadily gotten worse since lunch time. That doesn't bode well for the remainder of my day (including my scheduled workout at home later). I need to see my Chiropractor soon, but with his office fire, he is working on a limited schedule at a temporary place for now and I haven't been able to get in to see him (mostly because of my schedule, not his).
Advil in the car, so I have that to look forward to at 3pm!:lmao: ...........P
