$25.49 for a Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou

I love going to Disney Theme Parks and did so many times growing up. This May I will get to see Disneyland though the eyes of my 4 year old DD. We better enjoy it because every year it seems prices are increasing so much higher than my salary can keep up. Walt wanted a place that people could take their families and I'm sure many already have been priced out. Yes I understand that certain places naturally are priced higher (movie theaters, ball parks, theme parks) but $25.49 for a sandwich I can get at my local brew pub for $10.95 ?

We don't go to the Blue Bayou because it's too expensive. There are other more reasonably priced options. The Carnation Cafe is a nice replacement for a sit down restaurant inside Disneyland.

I agree. The ticket prices are exorbitant then te food and so forth. There are so many people who will not be able to go because of the ticket prices. Although you do get an experience. It cost 80 bucks to get into legoland and it definitely was not eighty bucks worth!

I say raise the prices! I'd rather pay more and have fewer people in my way. Let's start by weeding out the SoCal AP!

Also, I don't think you're really paying 25 bucks for "a sandwich". If a sandwich is all you need, go to Subway.

That said, we're not planning to take our nieces to BB because there are plenty of other places they'll enjoy more (character meals).

I think it's Cafe Orleans that also has a Monte Cristo sandwich. And honestly that thing is so huge, you can easily split it, and then that 26 dollar sandwich becomes 13 dollars each. I had one on my last visit and I think I only finished 2/3 of it and I can pack away food when I really want to

As for pricing things out, I honestly feel it's about as expensive as it was in prior years after you factor in inflation. Anyone here old enough to know what the prices were when you paid for your admission then had to buy the ride tickets on top of it? I mean Great America (bay area amusement park) if you order your tickets early and online it's like 45.99 for one day with not nearly as much to do as Disneyland. And there you can't even bring in your own food/snacks like you can at Disneyland.

As much as people like to conveniently forget it, Disney is still a business, not a charity. They charge $25 at Blue Bayou for a Monte Cristo because people will *pay* $25 for it. Disney is there to turn a profit. They will continue to raise prices until they reach a saturation point, and people will continue to fork over their hard-earned cash.

$25 for a sandwich?! No way!

In my "we only go to Disneyland once every 2-3 years after budgeting and saving to have a magical vacation having fun and playing with our kids and saving my birthday money to have lunch at the Blue Bayou" life:

$150 for lunch enjoyed INSIDE the POTC ride we all love so much, having a legendary Disneyland Monte Cristo sandwich, sitting on the verandah of a stately house strung with paper lanterns, watching the boats float down the bayou, listening to the banjo and watching the fireflies in the twilight and seeing the wonder of it all in my children's eyes? Worth every single penny!!! When we can get to DL again this meal will be budgeted right in to our trip.

I look at it like two meals at 12.50 each because the monte cristo was way too much food for me to eat, I ended up reheating my leftovers the next day! It was definitely worth it to me for the experience though! A waterside table and the ambiance was great.

I made reservations for next month but it will probably be a once in a lifetime thing. The last time I went to Disneyland was in 2000 so it it is not like we get there a lot. lol. I wasn't going to make reservation when I saw the menu prices but some friends said they really enjoyed it so I thought it would be a fun experience for us. We are also doing Goofy's Kitchen for Brunch. I am sure I would eat $30 worth of food but again I will chalk it up for another experience and the characters.

You can get "Cristo Nuggets" at the STage Door Cafe, at the Mint Julep window (I believe) and back at the Thunder Mountain Ranch area (not the BBQ). It is the same Monte Cristo taste in small easy to enjoy nuggets. They even come with the Jelly. That's about all of a Monte Cristo I can handle anymore, and I usually share the nuggets, too. I know it's not eating in the BB. But it is the Monte Cristo, just in bite sized form.

Disney has been and always will be a for profit business. They place has been completely packed everytime I have been there in the last 10 years. The ONLY way they can control the crowds is to raise prices. My only regret is that they don't raise prices more during busy periods. Disney should really explore varying prices based on projected demand during different times of the year.
