17 year old going in "the District" with family

please do not attack!!! Just a question... How strict are they about letting teenagers in The District with their family???

I have NO idea, but if the kid is part of the teen club and one of the cast members recognizes them trying to get into the club, my guess is there would be an issue. Also, the KTTW card has info on it and if they are asked for ID, their age would come up if it was scanned, I believe.

They don't let 17 year olds in the clubs (even with their families) and if they feel someone is underage they will approach them. so, will your child be humiliated if approached and asked for his Kttw card and asked to leave? I am sure it has happened and people were not noticed but they are strict.

They shouldn't even have to check! Unfortunately, some younger guests will try to enter areas they are not allowed, knowing it is wrong, so Disney does have to (and does) check for age appropriate use.

During the day they can go into the "The District". Me and my son would go in there during the day to read and he could do homework. We like to sit in the bar that has the wall of all of the cities in the world (skyline); nice scenery and quiet. During the evening they probably would not realize he was not an adult. If he tried to order anything his card would come up as a minor. Personally I would not expect a 17 year old would want to be in there with all the old people, the teens would be having more fun.

How old does she look? If she could pass for being in her 20's and she doesn't go up to the bar for any reason you might "get away" with it. But like the PP said, if someone recognizes her there may be an issue. I've heard about teens being asked to leave, them and the parents ignoring the request, and then being escorted out. I can only imagine how embarrassing that would be.
Just like in a normal club, DCL reserves the right to ID you at any time, for any reason.
Now this is not a flame or an attack but I have to point out there is a reason DCL reserves this area for 18+. It's a place for adults to unwind and have some fun sans kids. Now I'm sure you're daughter isn't like this but I could forsee something like this happening...
16 or 17 yo in the bar with parents, doesn't get "caught"
Goes and tells one girlfriend in the teen club what she "got away" with.
That girl tell someone else who tells someone else and so on.
Before you know it you have 5 or 6 teens in there and it becomes a problem.

Very intoxicated lady is having a good ol' time in the bar, unaware that there is a teen.
Teen sees this, and tells her friend in the teen club "you'll never guess what I saw your mom do last night...."

The nightclub areas are "adult only" after 9 pm. Prior to that time, they are family areas. Any CM who questions the age of a guest is authorized to ask to see their KTTW card. In the case of a child, the card will show a printed "M" for minor and the child will be asked to leave the adult area.

Do some kids "get away with" it? Sure. Do they card--absolutely.

Several teens, sitting with their families, were approached on our recent Fantasy cruise. One was over 18 and allowed to stay. The other 3 or 4 were under 18 and asked to leave.

As others have said, after 9pm the adult areas are 18-and-over only. Please don't try to bend the rules for your child.

Enjoying the adult areas also applies to those of us who do have children. My kids will NEVER be allowed to sneak in to the 18+ zones (until that magical birthday when no sneaking is required) and will suffer consequences if they try it, vacation or not. We sail DCL because of the dedicated age spaces and I hate it when people ruin that because they're only thinking of their personal situation instead of the others they are sharing space with on the ship.

I will say when I cruised DCL under age of 18 I never tried to go to the adult night clubs. I liked the idea of going at the right age and not breaking rules. I will say as well I'm 24 and I still get carded, so if they look underage they prob will get carded.

Thank you. My "now adult" daughter comments that she remembers when she was not allowed to walk thru "those doors" when we see families bringing children into the adult areas on the pool deck.

Yes, DCL has designated times and spaces to various groups, and we appreciate those families who choose to abide by those designations.

You were asking, and I think the answers were unfair to you. Many of us are from areas where children are allowed into bars and clubs with parents. In Wisconsin it is even okay for them to drink if the parents are okay with it.

I appreciate Disney not making exceptions because as we all know, if they make an exception for someone who is 17, then someone will want one for a 16 year old, or a drink for a child from a country where children drink wine at dinner.

But it is hard in situations like yours where all are excluded from the teen clubs because everyone else in the group is over 18, yet your daughter wants to be with the family. You'll find plenty to do with the entire group, either before 9 or just in the general family areas.

I have a cousin who sailed with us when she was in her mid-30's. Because she is very short, under 5 ft, they carded her everytime she entered the adult only venues at night. We always thought it was pretty funny and if they would have known her real age, they probably would have been embarrassed.

The other funny thing, is that our daughter who was just over 18, on the same cruise, was hardly ever asked about her age. She is 5"8 so maybe they thought she was older.

They did the same thing to my cousin at Serenity Bay, where they also asked about her age. It got to be quite a joke and she was not offended at all. I guess after all these years, she is used to it.

Personally, I'd be freaked if my 17 yo DD went in there and was hit on by some guy who ASSUMED, and rightfully so, that she was 18 or over
