WISH Away the Pounds -- Fantastic February Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

Hi all! New to WISH. I've only been to WDW but dreamed of it my entire life so when I went as an adult it was a dream come true. I can't wait to go back but honestly I need to lose some weight and get physically fit first. I was so worn out, sore and tired each day. Next time I go I want to feel as good as I do inside physically. So what better place to gain support than a Disney message board?? I loved this site for trip planning and hope it has the same magic for weight loss. :earsgirl:

:welcome: Thanks for joining us! You've found a wonderful place for support and accountability. And Disney is a great motivator! ::yes:: You still have to do all the work and heavy lifting but you know there is a wonderful bunch of folks to help you along the way. Good luck!

Happy Friday WISHERS!!!!:yay:

I am up in weight this morning...grrr....I was doing so good all week maintaining and even losing a 1/2 lb. Oh well....It is all good right? ;)

It was a VERY VERY stressful week so I got off track on my fruits and veggies. I know that has to be the difference.

My DH goes back to work today after being off 6 weeks for the heart attack & then triple bypass on Dec. 27th.

Good news is that my MILs liver biopsy came back benign.:thumbsup2 Bad news is it finally sunk in with her that she is terminal with her condition. She has advanced cirrhosis.

So to everyone here, have a happy friday and happy planning. I will be putting my house back together today.:goodvibes

This is so NOT the way I wanted to start off my weekend! I went to the doctor last night and the nurse told me my bp was 140/80!:faint: I couldn't believe it! This has come out of nowhere. And isn't it ironic that my DH, who went for a physical for his dream job yesterday, was so stressed about it, that his bp was through the roof!:scared: And to add insult to injury, I didn't lose so much as an ounce since last Friday. I feel like I could just cry and have a good old-fashioned pity party ...

Hi everyone! I will be your coach for the next week!

First of all, thank you very much to Pam for her coaching in our first week of the challenge!

Lisa already gave you all the instructions for the weigh in - I hope many people can see a good result on the scale! :thumbsup2

My name is Magdalene and I am currently losing weight for my Disney cruise in April (followed by a visit to WDW). While this is the motivation that keeps me going at the moment, I also know that I will feel better and fitter if I manage to lose about another 20 pounds from where I am now, which as of today is a BMI of 25.7. I used to be heavier and have been around my current weight for the last 3 years. I tried a few times to get lower, but never managed to get very far or to maintain at a lower level. So I am using the cruise as the big motivation to finally get me under that barrier.

I hope to be able to keep this thread active over the next week - however I want to add one disclaimer: Since I am German and English is a foreign language to me, don't be offended if I end up making weird mistakes!! :goodvibes

So, on to the first Question of the Day:

Looking back at the first week of February and thinking about what worked for you that last week and what did not, can you pick one thing which you will try to either keep doing or which you will try to change for the next week to help you on your weight loss journey for the next week? And for those of you who just decided to join us - there appears to be a bunch of you :goodvibes - what will you pick as the one thing that will help you get started with this new week?

And a big, WATP welcome to our new coach starting tomorrow, Magdalene! :flower3:

Thank you!!

I'm all ready for your weigh ins tomorrow! :jumping1:

It is very helpful if you can please put the words "Weigh in 2/8" and your number in the subject of your PMs. For example, "Weigh in 2/8 149". This makes it easy for me to double check your numbers, and of course, I will still reply to you so you know I received your PM. :goodvibes

Good luck tomorrow to all of us!

BRB with some replies.

Thanks for the weigh in reminder. Putting it all in the subject line makes so much sense! And I already followed your instructions. Very happy with my 1.5 pound loss. Does not sounds like much, but keeps me perfectly on track for my 5 pound per month goal!

Interesting! I know nothing about the German legal system -- I'm sure you never know what kind of day you will have either. ;) My DH is a lawyer, too. You do not want to get in an argument at our house . . .:rotfl2:

It's quite different from the American system as it is not based on common law, but an adaption of Roman law. We also don't have jurys (but lay judges sitting with the professional judges in certain criminal cases). Our court system is generally considered to be "inquisatory" as the court is much more proactive, for example any witness would first be questioned by the judge in depth.

And I can imagine how arguments in your house go!! :goodvibes

Tofu is so yummy! Here is a link to a really easy baked tofu that is easy to fix and very tasty. http://www.healthytippingpoint.com/the-perfect-baked-tofu It's from a website called healthytippingpoint.com and I found it totally by accident when I was doing a search one day.

Thank you!! That does sound really delicious. I think I will try it this weekend!

I had a 3.6 gain at WW today. :faint: I still had 20 weekly points so I am just believing that my body decided to hold onto weight this week and that next week it will be gone as fast as it appeared. Boy, it is so frustrating, though. :furious:

I'm counting on all your wonderful PMs tomorrow to help me get my happy back. :hippie:

Sorry about your gain. I have had frustrating weeks like this as well. My weight just recently started to move down after two weeks mainly at the same number.

Happy Friday WISHERS!!!!:yay:

Sorry to hear about your MIL's health. That sounds very discouraging. I hope you all will be able to spend a lot of quality time in the time she still has.

Good luck to your DH for starting work again!! Even though your last week was not perfect, from what you are saying you are both already making many great steps to a better lifestyle! Just keep it up and don't let the scale bring you down!

This is so NOT the way I wanted to start off my weekend! I went to the doctor last night and the nurse told me my bp was 140/80!:faint: I couldn't believe it! This has come out of nowhere. Oh - this sounds like you really did not have a great day yesterday. But maintaining is still better than gaining weight! I must confess that I have no knowledge about bood pressure, so I cannot be of help with that issue. However, I am certain that what you are doing now to stay healthy (especially your running efforts!) is still beneficial for your blood pressure.

Hi Magdalene!:wave2: Thank you for hosting this week and thank you to Pam for last week!

Since I didn't lose a stinking ounce last week, I'm going to increase my activity level, even if it means I have to drag my butt out of bed before work. I'm a diehard "work out after work" girl, but if an extra 20 on the elliptical in the a.m. gets the scale moving again in the right direction, I'll do it.::yes:: And even though I'm not eating too many of those blasted yummy Girl Scout cookies, I better cut back to just 2 a day instead of 4!:scared1:

Thanks for the welcome! I haven't caught up reading all the posts yet but wanted to add I am already doing a plank a day! I do it first thing in the morning. My chiropractor told me to start them. I got really good at them and was going to add variations then i quit them and recently started back up and had to start all over. I am up to 50 seconds a day!

Meanwhile I am an expert at losing weight...unfortunately I always seem to find it again. LoL

Just sneaking on from work to wish everyone in the northeast a safe weekend with the big storm. I'm hoping to be out of work early, 2ish, and will catchup with you all later, so long as the power stays on.

Happy Friday!!

Happy snowy morning friends! Snow day here in NH today! :cool1: It is easy for me to be excited because DH is home to snowblow and everything today and tomorrow has been cancelled, so I can hibernate for a change, instead of risking life and limb driving in the snow and ice.

I'm treating this as a BONUS day, since I was originally scheduled to work and will spend the day scrapping. Already got 2 pages finished!

May try to dig out a yoga DVD to use today. I've been having some neck pain and I am starting to think it is a positional thing related to lots of TM time. So today the TM can have a rest.

I'll pop on again later when I can use the desktop computer....off to have another cup of coffee and RELAX! .........P

I'm jumping in a little late this year. I've done the BL challenges beforw, but I guess I got away from the dis when I wasn't actively planning a trip. We arw going on a 4 night cruise on the Dream next Jan, plus I have a 20 yr high school reunion coming up this summer, so I'm jumping back in for some support!

We are doing a family wt loss competition that we started on Jan 1. We are all doing pretty good so far, but I'm definitely in need of some extra motivation.

I definitely believe that SAD exists because I suffer from it. We have had some pretty mild temps this winter and last, but that doesn't help the lack of daylight. I try to walk the dogs when it's not too cold out so I'm at least getting some sun. I work night shift, so a lot of times when we do have a nice sunny day I totally miss out because I have to sleep. In about 6 more weeks the kids should start having outdoor softball practices, so then I'll sit outside for a couple hours and read a book (or the dis) while I soak up some rays.

Hey-- nice to see you. I read back to my first challenge here lately and you were one of the ones I was wondering what happened to. Have you thought about getting one of those lights?

Welcome host. :-) Well, I've decreased my alcohol by half which will be in play from now on.

Honestly Jill-- you deserve this-- have fun!

Hey-- I'm down 4 pounds this week! I know a lot of it is water weight because I'm almost done with my period but it's still fun. Going to see Lincoln tomorrow as my non--food reward. I think bringing up my first challenge here and reading my posts from it really helped me this week. (that was wish bigggest loser 7)
I think what helped me the most from reading it is realizing how hard it was for me then--seems I was hungry all the time-- and knowing that that is temporary and necessary. Aslo because it's so hard-- I need to be nicer to myself all around. Also the non food reward thing-- movies really worked for me last time and I think it will work that way again for me.

Today I had some wonderful NSV's!!

First my brown mid-calf boots used to be super tight and I would have to push them way down to zipper them and it would be uncomfortable. Yesterday and today I just had to push them down a smidge to zip them.
And we went to the chiropractor today and he asked me if I lost weight because there was less of me to to adjust today. He asked me how much I've lost but I'm not sure yet, I haven't updated MFP lately.

It was a VERY VERY stressful week

Sorry for the stressful week! :flower3: Hope things start to feel like they are getting back to normal soon.

Bummer! Did they check out your BP later or with another monitor? Sometimes it is the monitor and not the patient. :flower3: Good luck to your DH on his dream job!

Thanks so much for coaching this week! :flower3:

I'm going to just keep on ramping up my activity and tracking like crazy. I am a little frustrated because the scale did not show my efforts so I'm hoping for a big reversal this week. :teeth:

Interesting. Our system is more reactive and that is a tough one for clients to understand. :rolleyes1

:woohoo: Great loss! It is amazing how much we can learn from our "old" selves. :cool2:

:woohoo: on the NSVs, Buffy!

Thanks for all your PMs today! :thanks: We are off to a great start!

And you folks in the storm's path, be safe! :umbrella:

Hi Magdalene! Your English looks perfect to me. :) Good question!
Monday the 4th was my husband's birthday and I got him a cookie cake which I helped him eat. He ate the majority of it but I ate more than I should have.
I'm not sure what I need for next week. I am hoping my new reward will keep me motivated.

I talked with DH tonight and we've decide we are going to lose 50 pounds each and once we reach that goal we will book a trip to WDW!!! I am going to use my start weight as my December 1 start weight (220) which is when I started 'again'. Which means I am already 16 lbs in. But usually what happens is I 'always' lose the 200s fairly quickly then I plateau in the 190s and can't break it and I end up giving up and going back to 200s. :P Well this new reward will hopefully help me BREAK that plateau! Meanwhile DH is in the 300s (used to be in the 400s). He usually loses with Atkins but last time he was on that it seemed to have 'stopped' working for him so he's just going with portion control and whatnot now but with eating that big cookie cake he is off track right now too. He is going to do an official weigh in tomorrow for his start weight. I'm sooo excited! It's one step closer to planning for Disney! I think I am going to start a WISH journal too.

I hope all of you in the northeast stay safe and warm this weekend!!! :cold:

Hello everyone!! Good day today!

Day 3 soda free!!! (And artificial sweetener). Wow I never thought I'd go this far. We went out to dinner last night at Furrs (cafeteria) my ds7 wanted to try it - we never go there. I had baked chicken and peeled off the skin, veggies, and about4 bites of Mac and cheese. Cafeteria Mac and cheese is the best! And of course plain tea to drink. dH seems to think I'm a little crankier but I don't know about that :) I think when I really watch what I eat I get that way.

Missed my exercise today as we had painters in the house on the stairs so I was isolated to downstairs and just got busy.

I was at my ds7 school helping out and my son says "mommy Nathan just insulted you - he said you have a big bottom". Part of me wanted to laugh and part of my wanted to locate this Nathan for a "talking to" :) his mom is a size 2 on a bloated day so I guess it's all relative. I'm 5'8" and a size 14 so I don't think I'm huge or anything but compared to most of the cutesy moms in their skinny jeans I guess I am big.

So while the rest of the family went out for Taco Bell (no time to cook w other things going on) I waited and took my big butt home for a healthier meal!

I have to work tomorrow - boo - but I just got told my weekend pay is going up - woohoo!!

QOTD;
The hardest thing for me is to not eat after work. I work at night and get home around eleven. I'm usually really hungry because of all the stairs I run at work. This week I'm going to try to curb the late night munchies by eating a snack during intermission.

Time to lose the winter blues and on to better spring things! :butterfly

Okay. So no yoga for me today. After our record-breaking snowfall yesterday I can't get the car out of the driveway, or driver on the streets fir that matter. I guess I'll just shovel for two hours. That'll probably be a better work out anyway. Hope everybody was safe in the storm yesterday. I did get to take my daughter to Disney on ice last night. It was a white knuckle drive both ways. Damn that Walt and his Disney crack.
