The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I'll be doing the Jingle Jungle 5K. Training for my first 5K right now. Really looking forward to running in Disney!

Do they often switch up host resorts? The three All-Stars were host resorts last year, but we would really like to try out AoA this time around... :earsboy:

They do switch host resorts, but I do not see them adding AoA. The resort will have been open just over a year and I think they will be banking on the newness factor as a draw to fill the rooms, not host resort status. This is not as big of a race as during marathon weekend where all resorts across property act as host resorts.

I'm in! This will be my second Disney run after the Princess in a few weeks. I'm trying to talk DH into training and if I succeed...it will be his first. VERY excited. I may have changed around my family(and extended family)vacation just for the race!

Do you have to pay for the training plans? I run 3-5 miles per outing right now but I'm working on improving my times. Currently running 10:15 miles but trying to get down below 10 minute miles with a goal of a sub-30 minute 5k before I go back to training for distance. (I know, I'm a slowpoke.)

If you are a slowpoke, then I don't know what I am! I am running 15 minute miles now when I push it, and have only done 5k. The 5k app is 3.99 (Cdn) and the half is 9.99. Not sure about the 10k.

If you guys are slow pokes, then welcome to my world!:cool1::woohoo:

My husband and I are going to try the Wine and Dine this year. My only fear is that I am always "done" after the race. This year's half I barely managed to walk back to my car--my feet hurt!!

The "idea" of walking EPCOT after the race sounds so fun but the reality is probably quite different. My goal is to really get comfortable in the high mileage so that I'm not so worn out at the end of the race.

Started the Couch to 10k program today- even though I've done Halfs before (2 Tinks, DL, and San Francisco), I want to be able to finally run an entire Half with minimal walk breaks. Hopefully by San Francisco (assuming we get in again), but definitely by the Wine and Dine!!

I'm really looking forward in running my first half-marathon ever at Disney! Let the count down begin.

They need to hurry up and release the host resorts, I'm going bonkers! I've already booked us in for POR, but we won't have access to a car and are totally going to be at Disney transportation's mercy. If I need to change, I'd rather know in advance. I certainly don't want to be trying to hunt a cab at 2-3 am.:rotfl:

I doubt they release the host hotels until registration, but I agree that it would be nice to know much sooner. I booked my room using DVC in November. Worst case, if you are not staying at a host resort, they will have taxis at the front of Epcot after the race, but I would probably walk through the showcase and grab a cab from Beach Club.

I'm with you - I'd like to know as soon as possible! We made reservations at CBR, since that was listed as a host resort last year, so I'm hoping at least that resort will be one again this year. We'll have a car, but taking Disney transportation makes it so much easier, of course! :)

It seems like they are starting to get things organized at the webpage. It seems to me like last year the Host resorts and deals didn't come out until registration or even just after registration opened (we were thinking about going last year).

How is everyone doing with their training? I am feeling much more comfortable with my 2 and 1's. 5k is getting easier and a little quicker using this app. :thumbsup2

I am starting training in one week. That is my goal! I had 5K down in August and for personal reasons stopped running then..so now I think I need to work myself back up....... hopefully my body 'somewhat' remembers what it used to be able to do! :)

Training is going well! I did a seven mile long run this morning. My muscles protested a little bit after, but I'm not hobbling so hooray! :)

Soooooo longing to get out on the road...but its covered in ice and snow. You're lucky.

It's chilly and windy here, but we're too far south to get much ice or snow. I think training in the winter here is ideal, so I'll be in pretty decent condition before the agonizing heat and humidity set it. Hopefully it'll clear up soon so you can get on the road! :)

I did the W&D in 2010, and didn't run again until I started training for this year's Donald - I was pregnant for a good bit of that time :) BUT - when I did start running again, it only took a couple of weeks for my body and muscles to remember what they should be doing, but it felt much better the second time around! I hope it goes well for you!

I hate to be that person but really $175?!? I mean I love Disney and they are marketing geniuses and supply and demand, but it's not like this one sells out super fast!

That being said... I'm still in I want my C2C again this year!

Last year's was:
$150/$165/$180

A $25 increase across the board.
Although I do not like it, I think that they can 'get away with it' when they hike up the entrance fees for the California races, as there is more demand. But this race doesn't sell out like those do.

Wonder if the 2014 (5th Wine & Dine Half) will be $200.
