C25K! Anyone else in?

Yes, this is what I use, but when I saw people posted 4s and 5s I was wondering, wow, how slow am I?? But now it makes sense if those are treadmill paces. My C25K has my Day 1 walk/run at an averate 14:25. A little slower once my legs were sore. Ha.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Oh, when they post 4's and 5's they mean MPH, not minute miles. So if you run a 12 minute mile, you are running 5 mph.

Thanks for the tip about the calf pain. I was drinking water while I was walking but maybe I should hydrate prior to starting. Stretches definately a good idea. My achelies tendon is very tight- prob a dancer and an gymnast thing from days gone by so it is hard to stretch but will get better.

My main goal is to Finish the race.... I dont want that golf cart to pick me up because I am too slow..... NO cart rider for me ;)

Came home and had an eggwhite omelet with greenpeppers, onion, and fresh tomatoes and more water. Lunch plans are a Boca burger and Lean Cuisine and salad for dinner. Cant promise i wont indulge in a treat but I actually feel like I have acomplished something, Something JUST FOR ME.....

I may not be fast, heck, I may not even qualify as SLOW but at least I got off the COUCH today :thumbsup2
Yay! Good for you! I SO do not want to be picked up by that golf cart!!! ha ha!!!

Started week 2 day 1 today. I made it all the way through... not sure what kind of a distance I got as my running is slow (my DH laps me!) but it is a start! 95 days to Everest!?

That is awesome! Have you thought about moving on the the bridge to the 10k?

I have the app for bridge to 10K but I'm trying not to psych myself out because I can be a negative Nelly sometimes, so I'm working my way back through the series.

also look into compression socks. I had horrible calf and shin pain the last time I ran. I stretched, drank water, worked with DS16 (who is a runner). This time I started wearing compression pants and it's made a world of difference.
I'm going to go get socks tomorrow so I can go back to wearing shorts.

I like the looks of that! Have you tried it indoors on a treadmill? Some GPS apps won't work indoors...

With my treadmill I use the bluefin Ease into 5K app. At the end you can journal and if you plug in your speed it will calculate your pace. I walk at a 4.0 mph speed which is a 14 minute mile pace, run at a 5.0 mph speed which is a 12 minute mile pace.

Hi everyone!

I just found this thread and am hoping for inspiration!

I started using the C25K last May-ish and "ran" (mostly walked) in my first 5K in August. And then, did nothing. I haven't ran since then. Partly because I was having a lot of pain in the outside of my right calf and partly just laziness.

Well, 2 weeks ago I was in WDW and cheered on my best friend as she completed the Disney Half Marathon (her first) and I was so inspired! I want to be able to do that!
So, I have signed up for the Disneyland 5K (in Sept), that way I can run something while she completes the Coast to Coast Challenge. But I really want to sign up for the Expedition Everest Challenge. I'm pretty sure that I even have a partner for it.

Now I just have to start running again. At this exact moment, I can't start yet... I'm recovering from bronchitis (got sick 2 days before the end of my Disney trip and am still hacking 2 weeks later, ugh) and there's still the thought of that leg pain.

I plan to start with the C25K again as soon as I can. I think I do better running outside than on a treadmill, but I'm not sure that's an option in the frozen North East.

So here's hoping I can get moving again! Looking forward to checking in with you all as well!

Hey everyone!

I'm hoping to be able to join in to this discussion soon. It is a goal of mine to someday run a 5K, so I plan to try and start the C25K within in the next few weeks. I already have an app for it on my iPod so I'm ready to go, but right now, I'm working on getting into better shape overall by doing Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. I did so well with it back in November for about 3 weeks, but then the holidays rolled around and I got out of the routine. I'm starting to get back into it and am hoping that once I do a few more weeks, I'll be ready for C25K. I also desperately need to get a good new pair of tennis shoes before I think about starting any kind of running.

Hopefully by coming here, I'll have some people to come to for advice and to keep me motivated. I really need to make this change, because I feel so out of shape and am really self-conscious about it.

Good luck to everyone currently working on it - it sounds like people are doing a really good job! Like I said, hopefully I'll be joining you soon!

Week 2/day 1 done-

Didn't go well. I've had a mental block all day, not sure why. I did push myself yesterday and didn't eat enough back in calories so I ate to many carbs today, which could explain some of my mental block.

But I did a 5.0 run and a 3.6 walk. 4.0 is where I'm usually at but my calves were giving me fits. Not liking the calf compression sleeves and the socks I bought were to small and couldn't really get them on, need to exchange those tomorrow.

And my pants kept sliding down much to the amusement of my oldest kid. Lol
But it's in the books.

And I wanted a few more minutes on the treadmill so I also did the Jeff Galloway Easy 5K program. Loved it, even though Jeff is trying to kill me running at a 5.5! Lol but with a 3.0 walk and it only being 17 minutes start to finish, it was a pretty good workout. I might even switch to this app for a while. I like him talking to me, keeps my kind off the running part.

I just finished week 5 day 1. The first five were tough, but by the third set of 5 I felt I could keep running.

I had to hop off the treadmill three times, to help my kids. Finished with some ab work.

Then proceeded to make chocolate chip cookies. At least I earned them- well maybe I earned a few bites- LoL.

Hello friends!

I am still on the Dream (waiting to disembark) and I wanted to tell you guys that:
I DID THE CASTAWAY CAY 5K!!!
I tried to do the intervals of W3D3 but it was too difficult to manage with my id, wave phone, and key to the world card so I ended up walking a large portion of it. I got passed by most everyone! I was so thrilled to finish strong at the finish line and receive my Mickey medal! :)

Keep up the hard work, the payoff is incredible!

Welcome and congrats on singing up for the 5k and starting the program! I do better running outside too. I'm in NY, so I know what you mean...we had some brutal days. I did use a treadmill one morning when it was -5, but other than that I have braved the cold. 30 with a real feel of 11 and 22 mph winds today...DW is out there now and I am going to run later after I get the kids off to school. Unless she comes back looking like a frozen block ;). Wish me luck!

Is the Jeff Galloway program an app on your phone? I am using one with intervals to do his program but I'd love to find something by him. Does he only have the 5k or others? I'm on W7D3 today so I am not looking to go back to the beginning of a 5k app.

I think a few bites won't hurt! And I agree, the 5's were a little tough...it's that jump to the next level. But it's all so doable...such a great program.

WooHoo!!!!!! Congrats!! I am hoping to do it in May - I want to hear all about it when you have the chance (and the cruise too! which one did you do?). Did you buy a t-shirt?

Ok, I'm off to do W7D3 in a bit. Hoping to go a little farther today, but I'm not feeling 100%, so I'll be happy just to finish it.

I was on the 4 night dream. I really wanted to buy the shirt but I couldn't find it! I was excited to get the medal. I stopped and had my picture taken with the ship in the background and my bib and medal. It actually turned out cute so I bought it.
It was a bit hot that morning by the time the race started which I am not used to running in, but manageable. There were walkers and runners. You are much farther in the program than I am, you will do great. I think there were about 40 or so of us. Afterwards, you will get many congratulations because all the medals say "winner"! I had to tell people that I didn't actually win, I finished! It was fun, I would do it again. Next time I hope to be able to run more and for longer intervals. :)

That sounds awesome! What was the running path like? Sand, dirt, paved or a combination of the three? If I remember correctly, Castaway Cay is pretty flat...

Thanks! I can't wait to try it!

I did W7D3 today and got my best pace and distance! I went 2.94 miles...getting closer to that 3.1 each time! I pushed myself though and I would say it was an easy one today, but not too hard either. I was so tired this morning though...I may need to take a nap later lol.

It is an app on my phone. He also has an easy 10K, half marathon, and full marathon app.

So does Disney do this 5K on every 4 day Dream Cruise? I would love to do that!

I am gearing myself up to start the C25K program hopefully next week. Been sick with the flu or something the last 2.5 weeks. I'm hoping that this program will help me increase the running portion of my run walk run, especially in the longer distance races.

Week 2/day 2

Run 5.5; walk 3.0

Got some inspiration from watching DS16 and his teammates run today.
Little heavy on my legs but much better than Thursday.

Sent from my iPhone using DISboards

Week 3/day 2...I walked at a 4.5 for most of it, I ran at a 5.0. I completed 65% of a 5K during the workout!
