My extended family is very sarcastic. When my younger dd was around 6, she didn't understand why people were talking like that at a family gathering. My niece, who was 16 at the time told her "this is how we show love, get used to it". That is our family motto now.

My sister has a Darth Vader theme as my ringtone. She tells me she cracks up every time I call.

I was having lunch with a guy and his phone started with the "Imperial March". It was his wife.

I thought it was hilarious and set that as my ringtone for work.

Over the years DH has had the Psycho theme and Guns N' Roses Used to Love Her as my ringtone.

As far as the MYOB thing...well does anyone every truly MYOB all the time? Of course not. We all have something that really doesn't concern us that we will still note and perhaps comment about. For some folks it's what they overhear in a public place, for some folks it's what their neighbors are doing, for some folks it's what their co-workers are doing. But we all, every once in awhile, mind someone else's business.

Well, of course we do! Humans are judgmental by nature - we judge every single thing that we hear or see. The thing is, most of us don't feel a great need to brag about it on the internet.

I'm confused by one part of this -- how does the attractiveness of the spouse play into the situation?

I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever been offended by something that one stranger has said to another stranger.

Without knowing the nature of their relationship, how can you judge? My DH and I joke with each other all the time. It's loving and it's how we have fun with each other. We're going on ten years with no end in sight, so I think we're doing pretty well.
