11 Days of DxDP: There's always room for dessert. UPDATE 2/23: Starring Rolls/Sci-Fi

Pete and I had an ADR at Nine Dragons for dinner. We got hungry about an hour earlier than our ADR time, so we checked to see if we could be seated earlier. They seated us immediately. The tables were really close together, and I felt like we were practically sitting with another couple because our tables were only a couple of inches apart.

We decided to get the General Tso's chicken dumplings for our appetizer. This appetizer took the place of 2 appetizers on the DxDP.

DSCF4619.jpg

The dumplings were steamed and served with a dish of General Tso's sauce. The waiter also brought over a bottle of soy sauce, and told me that I should probably use it, because the red sauce would be too spicy for me and told Pete to enjoy the General Tso's sauce. It was weird. :confused3 Pete actually ended up using the soy sauce, because the other sauce was sitting well with his stomach. I thought the General Tso's sauce was great, and I ended up eating more than my share of dumplings.

Pete ordered the Peppery Shrimp for his meal.

DSCF4621.jpg

The shrimp were served with spinach noodles. Pete mostly ate the shrimp. The noodles were very garlicky with a little bit of pepper flavor. Pete didn't think the noodles were sitting well with his stomach either, so he gave them to me. I love garlic, so I was in heaven. I could have eaten nothing but those noodles and been extremely happy. :cloud9:

I ordered the honey sesame chicken.

DSCF4620.jpg

This was served with rice. The sauce was sweet, but a little bland. It could have used just a little spice, I think. Overall, it was really good, and it went well with spinach noodles. :rotfl2:

There was really nothing on the dessert menu that appealed to me, but Pete wanted to get the caramel ginger ice cream.

DSCF4622.jpg

I tried a little, and there was way too much ginger flavor for me. Pete ate a few bites, then decided that he agreed with me.

We would definitely go back to Nine Dragons again, but we'd skip dessert.

I still wanted dessert, we made a quick trip to the French bakery. I had a sacristain, which is puff pastry dough with chocolate chips and an icing drizzle. This was delicious (much better than the caramel ginger ice cream).

DSCF4573.jpg

The next morning, we were headed to MK for extra magic hours at 7. We enjoyed some of the attractions in New Fantasyland, then decided that it was time for breakfast, so we made our way over to Gaston's Tavern.

I really loved the detail in the theming.

We each ordered a cinnamon roll and we shared a LeFou's brew.

DSCF4705.jpg

DSCF4704.jpg

The cinnamon rolls were good, but there was not anywhere close to enough icing. Pete thought the maple glaze tasted more like caramel, but he still seemed to like it well enough. I couldn't really taste the maple glaze at all. The LeFou's Brew (frozen apple juice with a hint of toasted marshmallow and mango-passion fruit foam) was good for the first few sips, but then it was way too sweet. I think the marshmallow flavor is what ruined it for me.

Just found your trippie, loving it so far, looking forward to more ! So sorry to hear about Hubby being ill though ! If I am not planning a trip, what's better than living vicariously through everyone elses lol !

Great reviews so far. Sorry you both got sick! That is my fear on vacation. Can't wait to read more!

Glad to have to following along! Fortunately for both of us, the actual too sick to do anything but lay in bed part of being sick only lasted a day or so for each of us. Our appetites and my sense of taste were both off for a few days afterward, but we were still able to have plenty of fun.

:welcome: We managed to make the best of the time that we weren't sick, and I think we got a little lucky with the timing, because we were both sick on the best possible days, considering our plans (not that there's a good day to be sick on vacation).

Pete and I didn't have an ADR for lunch, but we were considering trying to walk up to Kona Cafe. Then Pete told me that he really wasn't hungry, and he really didn't want to go to a TS restaurant and waste a lot of food. We were leaving MK for the afternoon to see the Christmas decorations at some of the MK resorts, so we stopped at Casey's Corner on the way out.

I ordered the corn dog nuggets and fries, and Pete didn't want anything.

DSCF4715.jpg

DSCF4716.jpg

DSCF4717.jpg

The corn dog nuggets were good. The breading wasn't as think as I thought it would be. The fries were standard Disney fries. What made this meal so delicious for me was the cheese sauce. Is there anything better than fries covered in cheese? After watching me eat a few bites, Pete decided that he would have some, too. He ended up eating nearly all of my lunch, so I went back and got some more fries.

Pete and I had a dinner ADR at Be Our Guest before MVMCP. There was a huge line of people at check in all trying to get in that night. Everyone was being turned away, unless they had tickets to MVMCP, in which case they could get in during the beginning of the party.

We waited about 10 minutes after checking in to be seated. Our waitress was April. We were seated in the ballroom. The tables were close together, but not as close as the tables were at Nine Dragons. It was suprisingly dark in the ballroom, and I had a really hard time getting my camera to take decent pictures. Sorry for the bad quality in some of them.

DSCF4766.jpg

We were brought a basket of rolls shortly after we ordered our meals.

DSCF4777.jpg

I ordered the French Onion soup.

DSCF4780.jpg

The cheese on top was great, but the rest of the soup was very bland. The soup at Les Chefs was much better. I probably wouldn't order the soup at BoG again.

Pete ordered the garden salad.

DSCF4781a.jpg

He said it was just a run of the mill salad. He didn't eat very much of it.

I had the rotisserie cornish hen for my entree.

DSCF4784a.jpg

I subbed the au gratin macaroni for the fingerling potatoes. The chicken was well flavored, although a little unevenly seasoned. The macaroni was very good. It had a little bit of garlic flavor to it, which complemented it very nicely.

Pete ordered the pan seared salmon on leek fondue.

DSCF4787.jpg

The salmon was served with saffron crushed potatoes. Pete really liked the salmon, but didn't eat very much of it. He didn't care for the potatoes, but he couldn't really point out why.

BoG Dessert and MVMCP to follow soon.

Our waitress brought the dessert cart around.

DSCF4770.jpg

I ordered the triple chocolate cupcake.

DSCF4790.jpg

This satisfied my chocolate craving nicely. The only problem was that it was impossible to get the cupcake wrapper off. I ended up digging the cake out with my fork. The process was far more difficult than it should have been, but it was definitely worth it.

Pete ordered the lemon meringue cupcake.

DSCF4791.jpg

Pete didn't give much of an opinion on this. He said that he was too full for dessert, but ate all of it anyway, so he must have liked it.

Our waitress brought us out the Grey Stuff because we were celebrating our anniversary.

DSCF4793.jpg

The grey stuff is cookies and cream mousse. I really enjoyed it, but there really wasn't much to split between 2 people.

We posed for a picture with the Beast on the way out.

DSCF4794.jpg

We had a reservation for the dessert party during MVMCP. We were a little late getting there, because we weren't paying attention and got stuck on the other side of the parade. We were still pretty full from dinner, so we each only got a small plate.

DSCF4847.jpg

This was my plate. I didn't really care for the cheesecake. The apple tart and the peanut butter chocolate tart were really good. I don't think that I ate much of the brownie.

DSCF4846.jpg

This was Pete's plate. He didn't offer much of an opinion on anything, but said that the dessert with all the berries was his favorite.

We would definitely go to BoG again. I would for sure get the au gratin macaroni with whatever I ordered. Pete wants to try some of the different cream puffs. I'm not sure if we'd go to the dessert party again, but the location was very nice for fireworks viewing.

Pete and I had a pre-park opening breakfast at Tusker House the day after MVMCP. We were seated about 5 minutes after we checked in.

The room with the buffet:

This was my first plate:
DSCF4980.jpg

The slice of ham that I got was really fatty. It was gross. The rest of the food was really good. The donut was a Krispy Kreme. I had ham and cheese frittata, scrambled eggs, and tater tots. They were all good, but next time I would skip the scrambled eggs and just get the frittata.

Pete's first plate:
DSCF4981.jpg

Pete managed to get a slice of ham without any fat, and he loved it. He was a huge fan of the mustard sauce. He didn't comment on much else, but he ate all of it.

My second plate:
DSCF4983.jpg

I got a new piece of ham, and it was great. The cheese blintz was not very good, but the apple topping was really good.

Our waiter wasn't the greatest. After dropping off our drinks, he didn't come back again until he gave us the check. When he did drop off our drinks, he made a bunch of weird comments about what we were eating and what that meant about our personalities. It was really strange. Other than the bad service, we both enjoyed our breakfast here, and we would definitely go back.

We went to Tusker House for dinner in 2009. While the food was great, the service really sucked. It was really busy and our waitress had a bad attitude, like we were bothering her or something. Once we got our drinks, 20 minutes after we ordered them, we never saw our waitress again. We had to flag someone else down to get our check! We went during free dining but had upgraded to deluxe. My mom was a waitress in her younger days so we always tip well, minimum 20%. But I just couldn't bring myself to tip her that much when we basically served ourselves and didn't even get a refill on our drinks! She only got 10% which was still around $15! We loved the food, especially the desserts (banana bread pudding and zebra domes!) but she ruined it for us and we haven't been back.

Really enjoying your reviews. So sorry you both got sick. You have made me want to visit WWoHP!

Great reviews! We've enjoyed many of the places you tried, and I'm a big fan of the make-your-own pasta station and red velvet cake at POR, LOL. We're trying the deluxe plan on our next visit and I'm definitely considering a breakfast reservation at Tusker House, everything (with the exception of your fatty piece of ham :crazy2:) looks great!

Looking forward to the next update!

Your reviews and pictures are great. I am so sorry that you both were sick on vacation but you certainly had a great attitude about it and didn't let it drag you down. Looking forward to more!

Love your reviews and pictures!
Went to WWoHP this past summer. Your pics bring back great memories!
SS to hear about you both being ill. Any idea what caused your DH to get sick? Something he ate?

Wow the doughnuts at Tusker house are Krispy Kreme? :rotfl2:
I have always raved about those doughnuts, and how fresh they were. I thought they were made onsite. Didn't realize they were KK doughnuts :rotfl:

I'm heading to WDW for my birthday in March 6 day/7nte, upgraded to DxDDP.
I have ADR's on my B-day at BOG. Can't wait.
Looks fantastic from your pics! tysvm!

Yum those donuts look good! I need to try Tusker House!

Tusker House was definitely worth it. It's a great choice for a pre-park opening breakfast.

Pete and I always tip at least 20% too, but we definitely didn't tip our server that much at Tusker House. I would still go back, but hope for a different server.

Really enjoying your reviews. So sorry you both got sick. You have made me want to visit WWoHP!

WWoHP is really worth a visit. I can't wait to get a chance to go back!

Breakfast at Tusker House is a great use of a credit, IMO. The frittata is really good.

Great reviews :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more.

Glad you're enjoying the reviews! Being sick wasn't much fun, but thankfully it didn't last long for either of us. :)

Love your reviews and pictures!

I'm pretty sure he just picked up a virus somewhere. It wasn't something he ate, because I ended up catching it, too.

Make sure that you tell BoG that you're celebrating your birthday. They only give out the grey stuff for people celebrating something.

We didn't have a lunch ADR at AK. Pete wanted to go to Yak & Yeti QS. I wasn't really hungry, so Pete and I just split something.

We had the sweet and sour chicken.

DSCF5155.jpg

The chicken and sauce are both served on top of the rice. I only ate a bite of this, and Pete ate the rest. I didn't like it much, and Pete said he only really ate it because he was hungry. We wouldn't order it again.

We also had the chocolate mousse.

DSCF5154.jpg

Pete ate all of this. He said it was good, but nothing special.

After lunch, I was really starting to feel bad, so Pete took me back to POR to see if taking a nap would make me feel better. I did feel a lot better after my nap, so we went back to AK for a few hours, then planned to see the Osborne Lights and have a late dinner at Olivia's. After we had ridden Dinosaur a couple of times and Expedition Everest another time, I was feeling really sick. I felt better after sitting for a bit, so I thought it was just motion sickness. We left AK to go to DHS, and I realized that seeing the Osborne Lights was just not going to happen for me that night. Pete took us back to POR and canceled our ADR for Olivia's. I spent the night being sick, just like Pete had a few days earlier.

Pete went to Riverside Mill for dinner that night. He took pictures, but didn't know how to adjust the settings on my camera, so they didn't turn out so great.

He had a turkey sandwich with macaroni salad.

DSCF5163.jpg

He really liked this. He said he would order it again, if he ran out of options that he wanted to try.

He also had an apple blossom.

DSCF5164.jpg

Pete said this was delicious. He had every intention of getting another one before we left, but it didn't happen.
