Getting Skisney for Disney May 2013 PTR 4/11: Day 1 Plan

One thing I wanted to offer up to everyone is a recipe blog I found while searching the internet a couple of years ago - Skinny Taste(I assume I am allowed to do this since she doesn't sell anything??? - if I am not I am sure someone will tell me and I will remove it so please don't quote me just in case). I have made tons of her recipes and have never had anything that was not delicious. She gives you all the nutricional info for each recipe. Some of my favorites are:

1) Breakfast - Hashbrown egg white nests

2) Appetizer - Southwester Black Bean Salad

3) Lunch - Turkey Burger with Zucchini

4) Dinner - Chicken and White Bean Enchiladas

Thank you for posting!! I will definitely try out the hash brown nests! Thinking my family will love them, too- looks like an easy grab and go hot breakfast :-)

Hey y'all! I'm back!
I was gonna quote and respond, but there were 2 whole pages so I'll just say WAY TO GO to everyone who has lost this past week and made healthy choices...

I weighed in Friday (right in sync with starting my monthly cycle... :scared:
I still lost 4 pounds, though!!! Getting up at 5:15 4 days a week apparently worked.

So, I did Zumba again today at 5:15. And I HURT. Not from the workout (I mean, I got super sweaty, and I feel it...) but from staying up until midnight and then getting up at 4:45am to get there. Sigh. :surfweb: Work totally cuts into my day.

OK - so to respond to everyone else re: dining.... While we are still up in the air about whether we'll do DP or OOP - here are my ADRs so far:

SciFi Dine In (DHS)
Teppan Edo (Japan - Epcot)
The Plaza (lunch @ MK)
1900 Park Fair (Dinner - for DD7 who LOVES Cindy...)
Boma (AKL)
Tusker House (Breakfast)

We are also planning to do TRex and/or Ragland Road for dinner in DTD and then the following CS places are maybes:

Earl of Sandwich (DTD)
Landscape of Flavors (We are staying in a Cars Suite at AoA so this is a definite)...
BOG or somewhere in MK
Hope to have Sunshine Seasons and a little "eat/drink around the world" session in Epcot

All that said - I'm still looking at the Keens in my Amazon cart. Probably pulling the trigger today. I am also looking at bags - what kind of bag (if any) do you take to the parks? I had a cross body backpack type last time but it was too much, I think, but I didn't have a 7 & 8 year old with me, either. Thoughts? pixiedust: 115 days for me!

I think I might do a roll call at the beginning with everyone's screen names and t-minuses. How does that sound? That way it's all in one place. WTG to everyone that lost this past week and to those who kept with their diet and exercise goals. My diet's been ok but my exercise hasn't been so hot. I did 22 min. of Michael Jackson: The Experience this morning and beat my mom's (yes, my MOM) score on Billie Jean. I call that a win in my book:cool1:

If you don't want to be in the roll call, give me a holla.

Congrats on the 2.4 loss. I am still up 1, but I was up 4, so, I lost 3 this week. I can't help you with the dining choices because I have never been to WDW.
Thank you! I wish I felt it. You are down three! 1 lb and you are back at T!! And congratulations on your first trip to WDW. You will love it. And I think all your dining choices are GREAT for your first trip.
Congrats on the loss!!!! I am no help with dining, either--your list includes most of our favorites and the ones not on there are seafood. I am like you, though, the New Fantasyland has somehow thrown all of my planning for a loop. It's like I can't wrap my mind around it! I am so impressed that you made the 'Ohana bread. . .we all LOVE that stuff!!

I have been doing my MFP and my exercising. My first weigh-in isn't until this coming Thursday, so we'll hope for the best! :dance3:
Way to go on your exercising! Worst-case scenario, you'll be in shape to do some serious walking. You have to cover some serious ground with a short WDW trip AND a cruise! I promise, if you feel adventurous, try the bread. It is easy, especially if you have a mixer with a dough hook. Or didn't you say in your PTR that your hubby cooks?

Congratulations on the weight loss!

And I know you specifically said no seafood, but in case anyone else is looking for it, Flying Fish is wonderful.

I need to go narrow down my ADR list. As of now I'd need to be eating three meals a day for a month lol.
I have heard wonderful things about Flying Fish. I'm SURE there's a wonderful chicken or steak dish that's just dying to be tried by me. I wish I could've tried it before they decided it was good enough to be 2 credits.:( Oh, I am so having your same trouble with my ADRs. I wonder if I'd be so overwhelmed if I ever got the DDxP?

I'm in. I have gained about 30 pounds in the last 2 years and need to get it off before our May/June SWW trip. We always get PP and I was looking at the pictures from our 2011 and 2012 trips and realized I am in tons of pictures from 2011 and almost none from 2012. It really motivated me as I know I will shy away from the camera if I don't look good. For an idea of what I want to get back to check out my picture from 2011 in my A SWW PTR May/June
pixiedust:Welcome!pixiedust: And wow!! You did look great. And when you get PP (we always get it as well and it's been a lifesaver!), you definitely want to get your money's worth and take as many pics as you can!

Matkensgirls-
Another not-to-be missed dining experience is California grille.(top of the Contemporary) Time your dinner right and you can watch the fireworks over Cinderella castle from the big windows or the rooftop deck. The food is outstanding!
I have survived week one of diet and exercise! Woot woot! I'll weigh-in tomorrow. 10 weeks until our cruise-yay!! (2 weeks until a wedding in Islamorada...not expecting any change by then!)
Way to go for lasting one week. They say if you can make it through 2 weeks of something then you make it through the whole time. So one week 'til it's all downhill:hourglass Oh, you don't know how I long to try CG. I am so scared to use 2 dining credits. Would you say it's worth it?

I'm in. I have gained 15-20 lbs since spring and I plan on losing it or at least some of it by my next trip in March. I'm going to eat around 1200 calories and go to the gym. I'm planning on taking classes (such as Zumba), as I don't seem to get as bored in them than if I just go on the treadmill or elliptical. My issue is it's soo cold out where I live I just want to stay in and I'm less motivated to go outside and excersize.
Welcome to my PTR!! I have the same issue. It's cold and I don't like it!! I think your plan is great. Wish I lived close enough to town to do classes.
To give you some history I am the type of person who was able to eat pretty much anything while I was growing up and never gain weight. This allowed me to develop some very poor eating habits. That streak changed once I turned 30 and the weight started building up. During my 30s I yoyo dieted trying every option out there. Then at the age of 37 my husband and I made a life altering decision. We decided to have a 3rd child. We already had a DS16 and DD12 but we(really me:) ) wanted one more. So I went to see a nutritionist to try to get in shape to get pregnant again. I learned so much there but the biggest thing I learned was that it was better to focus on getting healthy instead of getting skinny. As the nutritionist told me more times than I can count it is possible to be skinny and unhealthy but if you focus on eating healthy you can have both(skinny and healthy).

I followed her plan got healthy(skinny), got pregnant, had a beautiful baby boy and lost the pregancy weight within a year. I had kept the weight off for 6 years. I even had a full physical in 2011 and all my levels including cholesterol were normal! Then I turned back to my old eating habits and back came the weight!

So all this to say my plan is to focus on getting healthy. Everything that goes into my mouth needs to be a healthy choice. I do not plan to count calories, carbs or fat because I just know I will fail at that but I will be substituting veggies for my snacks of choice lately and make sure I get a good balance of protien, fiber and EXERCISE. The exercise will be the hardest part for me.

I am hoping our upcoming trip will be a big motivator for me. I would love to go to Disney feeling and looking my best:)
Thank you for sharing your story! It's amazing how easy it is to get into bad habits. I used to be very fit because I exercised hard (was on basketball team in HS), I could eat whatever I wanted but food wasn't really that big of a deal for me. Then I stopped working out all the time but kept eating the same and ta-da...I lost my 20s. I really want my 30s to be fit! Your plan and attitude sound great!
Still taking classes - three classes per week and lots of walking. Weigh in on Wednesday that will tell the tale!
Can't wait to hear the results! Good job on the exercise. You people are ROCKING on the exercise.
I was a normal healthy size 8. After slacking off I gained about 15 lbs.
So the dr weight loss approach: very effective- 15 lbs gone. Along with all my muscle mass. And my metabolism, and some of my hair. I'd call that unhealthy skinny. They tell you to limit your exercise, take their prescription b12 shots and weight loss drugs, and cut calories to around 900 daily. I have been fighting to regain my metabolism ever since. I gained it all back in about 2-3 months after stopping the pills, but at least my hair stopped falling out.
Now- I am totally in tune with the healthy approach. Lots of water, healthy protein, veggies, cardio, and weights. I dance with my daughter on the kinect, I walk and ride bikes with the kids, and I feel awesome.
Good luck on your journey!
Even at my fittest, I was never smaller than an 8 (I could do a 6 in a dress). The clinic approach sounds scary! I'm glad you got wise to that.
:thumbsup2 I am in the same boat. I consider a size 6/8 to be my ideal size. Anything smaller than that and I look sickly.
That's me. I'm tall and a size 6 would be too thin especially the way my body's changed after having 3 kids.
One thing I wanted to offer up to everyone is a recipe blog I found while searching the internet a couple of years ago - Skinny Taste]
Thanks for sharing! Some of that sounds great.

Your dining plans sound so similar to what I like to do in the parks. Boma and 1900PF Dinner are two of my absolute favorites. Sunshine Seasons is my fave CS and I also like to use my CS credits to dine "around the world."
I'm contemplating changing my bag strategy, too. I won't need to carry diapers with me this time!!
And way to keep it up and lose 4 lbs. CONGRATULATIONS:woohoo:

Hello everyone!!! Glad to hear of everyones success!!

am at t-0!!! ugh. but I have lost inches. I would like to see some movement on the scale tho.

I think need to tighten down on my calories and include more lean protein. I have been working out about 45min a day of cardio, my net calories are usually around 1200. I'm not sure what is going on with that?! Any ideas???

oh, we only have 2 adrs

chef mickeys and sci fi dine in. My dd has aspergers and with her issues and a squirmy 2 year old we don't do a lot of sit downs. I am hoping to get into be our guest tho for lunch (BOG???) My middle son suggested we get pizza in the room one night... HA! we go to wdw and they want to order in pizza! We did it once on our last trip tho and they really enjoyed it.... :confused3 we only did it because we had been to Celebration Er the night before (respitory issues) and we were really tired. Its funny what they remember and look forward to.
Stay focused!!!

My DS17 has Aspergers and that is why I decided not to do 50's Prime Time. My other two thought it would be fun, but if they told Jacob to do something or they gave him a hard time, I don't know if he would realize they were playing a part or not. It just wouldn't be an ideal situation.

Yay for everyone's weight loss! Tomorrow is my weigh-in day...it should be Thursday, but I don't want to wait! :lmao: I've done pretty well on diet and exercise this week, except for tonight. DH was out of town last night, so DS decided to "wait up for him"...never mind that he wasn't coming home til tonight. So DS went to sleep sometime between 2 and 3. I missed the morning workout, and then after work, we were so late that DH suggested we go to Chilis. MFP was quite unhappy with me!! ;)

Oh well...back at it tomorrow!! Thanks for being such an inspiring bunch!!! :cool1:

ugh.. I know... We have NO intention of dining there for the same reason!! We think (hope and pray) that the sci fi is a hit, my dd is a sensory seeker and so the more stimulation the more she loooooves it. And we might get an enjoyable meal out of it. She is also a talker type. I'm grateful she talks, but it can be trying. She can also cry loudly and hysterically over seemingly minuscule things. Always fun in a public setting, mostly because she "looks" like a "normal" 7 year old girl, people look at us like we are the worst parents ever..... She will make a pun out of anything. At 4 she told me camping was intense (in tents.....get it?....yeah). We just were rxed one year ago this month. It has been a very stressful year with that....

Yay. . .one week in for me today! :thumbsup2 For my weigh-in, I am at T-3.2! So excited for 3.2 lbs gone! Hoping to be at my pre-preg weight (yes. . .he's 4!) before our trip. . .that's just another 7 lbs down. Maybe I can get there!!

Thanks for the motivation and inspiration!! Have a magically wonderful Wednesday, y'all!!

Count me in for roll call. I get my T once I weigh in. I'm thinking "0"?
Went to Justin Bieber concert last night. Not a lot of great dining choices for this " girls trip", but today I will recommit to healthier choices. We will be making the road trip back home later today.

am at t-0!!! ugh. but I have lost inches. I would like to see some movement on the scale tho.

One thing that really helps me is to have a scale that measures body fat as well as weight. This helps because as you increase muscle mass and lose fat you could actually gain weight.

An example:
You weigh monday and the scale says 150lbs with 35% body fat. That means you are carrying around 52.5lbs of fat.

You weigh the next monday and the scale says 152lbs with 32% body fat. That means you are carrying around 48.64. Which means you lost 3.86lbs of body fat and that the 2lbs you gained was more than likes muscle mass. I would count that at T-3.86lbs:cool1:

Another good reason to have this scale is to make sure you are not losing muscle mass.

Another example:
You weigh monday and the scale says 150lbs with 35% body fat. That means you are carrying around 52.5lbs of fat.

You weigh the next monday and the scale says 148lbs with 38% body fat. That means you are carrying around 56.24. Which means you gained 3.74lbs of body fat which is not good because that would mean that you more than likely lost 2 lbs of muscle. :scared:I would count that at T+3.74lbs

I really find this type of scale to be a modivator especially to those that have significantly increased their exercise but you really have to do a mind shift from caring about your total weight and just focusing on your fat pounds.

Thank you for suggesting this! I was wondering what type of scale you have? and where you got it? We got our scale for a wedding gift :-)confused3 don't think we registered for it, but anywhoo) about 8 years ago and im thinking I need to replace it! I am feeling great and stronger in my body anyway, and sleeping well!!!

Mine is about 10 years old(I think I was one of the first to get one and paid a pretty penny because of it- I paid like $120.00 for it:scared:). They have come way down since then and I am actually looking at getting a new one because my just does weight and body fat and I would like one thats include hydration. I am thinking I will get this one: Scale with body fat and hydration

Hello, if you all don't mind, I would love to join you!

I also need to lose some weight before our trip, but most of all I want to get fit again. I was up to running 8 miles back in Jan. 2012, and I lost all of it when I went back to school full time. I just couldn't seem to fit the runs in.

I'm making the effort now and hope you won't mind if I share my meal tracking and workout log with you all. I could use all the encouragement I can get.

Good Luck to all of you losers! Here's to great Disney 'after' photos!

:welcome: to our weight loss thread and my PTR!! When are you going to Disney? I don't know if you've read, but we're not sharing our weights...just a T for our baseline and when we weigh in we'll say whether we've gained or lost from that number. I like to run...but I've never done 8 miles. Impressive:worship: Three miles was about my tops. Good luck getting Skisney!!

Oops, we're going July 19-27! I'm so excited, but I've got to get back in shape. I was overweight and out of shape when we went to Universal in 2008 and it was NOT a comfortable experience. Luckily, I have enough time, if I put some effort into it.
And thanks for the information. I saw the post with all the "T-" records. I'll have to get my baseline tonight and go from there.
Thanks again!!

I am at net 1200 calories daily, too... and I have worked out EVERY DAY for the last 2 weeks (except last Friday) and even though I feel great, I'm not really losing. I think it's the muscle building/water retention... and my experience is that when I start up hardcore with the cardio every day, it seems to take longer to see an inital big loss but 3-4 weeks in I see a good jump. I'm down 4 in 3 weeks, though, so I'll totally take it!

We are planning to get pizza one night, too. We'll be there in May and plan to have an early day out of MK on the 3rd day, but not go back that night, just stay by the pool and order a pizza from Landscape of Flavors (we're staying at AoA)... And probably have some beer in the suite, or get drinks at the Drop Off Bar!

Yay for everyone's weight loss! Tomorrow is my weigh-in day...it should be Thursday, but I don't want to wait! :lmao: I've done pretty well on diet and exercise this week, except for tonight. DHs are so distracting sometimes! ;) My hubby can eat and eat and eat - Taco Bell and burgers and pizza and still he's skinny. :confused3 But you're doing great!!!

Yay. . .one week in for me today! :thumbsup2 For my weigh-in, I am at T-3.2! So excited for 3.2 lbs gone! Hoping to be at my pre-preg weight (yes. . .he's 4!) before our trip. . .that's just another 7 lbs down. Maybe I can get there!!

WTG on the -3.2!!! And I'm hoping to be at my pre-pg weight, too - though mine is 30 pounds... and my kids are 7 & 8, and I've been BELOW my pre-pg weight after I had the children ;) :dance3: Back to it. I WILL DO THIS!

Count me in for roll call. I get my T once I weigh in. I'm thinking "0"?

Wow. I have a Tanita body fat scale and I rarely use it for the body fat part because it's so depressing but you are SO right. I'm going to mark down the body fat percentage tomorrow. Ack.

Welcome welcome!

So - for an update. I have been SOOOOO good this week. Stayed within my calories and ate really well - except I flaked and had a donught yesterday, but I also did an hour of kickboxing, which according to My Fitness Pal about equals out :rotfl2: (Note to self - donut not worth it.)

I did kickoboxing at 5pm last night. And exactly 12 hours later I was back at the Y doing Zumba this morning. GO ME! :cheer2:

I'm super excited because the Y is having a Parents' Night Out tomorrow and it's $10 for both kids to go from 6-9pm and hang out in the game/activity room (they love this, there's a biking simulation game, a Wii with Just Dance, and then a light-up floor dance game, and a foosball table, etc.) and they get to swim, and my DH and I get to go out for dinner. Together. ALONE!

We have a Japanese Steakhouse in town but we have never been together. I went maybe 5 years ago with my first husband just before we divorced, and he went 5-6 years ago on (what he says was) a terrible date for his birthday. I'm so excited! :yay::yay::yay:
