Dis Exclusive Once Upon a Fairytale Germany Trip 9/20 - 9/28/2013

Just my office location. Nothing amazing (unless you like Joel Osteen, we share a parking garage with his church/basketball arena)

I spent the better part of the afternoon pondering the metaphysics of why Mike posted a map of Lamar High School in this thread. I assumed a tuba was involved.

WELCOME Rosemary and Jean!

DH just said we need to start looking at airfares <yeah!>. Pinch me this is actually happening.::yes:: We have discovered that Southwest does not fly to across the pond so we leaning towards Delta or Lufthansa. Anyone have any suggestions?

Now what to do prior to the trip...:surfweb:

I figured it out! In the DISBoards app, you can add an image and right below add image is add location. Your location is determined and then the app inserts a google maps image of the location.

Please help me welcome Rosemary and Jean to our Adventure.

Rosemary and Jean are part of John and Micki's family.

When looking at Lufthansa, I got a better fare ($50 dollars cheaper) by going directly through their website rather than booking through one of their code share partners (United). I'm excited to try Lufthansa as I have heard very good things about them!

I don't have the opportunity to use Delta that often, but I used them for the Viva Italia trip last May. I thought they were very good, I paid the extra $80 dollars for premium economy and though it was worth it!

On our Viva Italia Adventure in May we booked thru United. Going over we had a United plane and coming back we flew Lufthansa. What a BIG difference. This trip we are using Lufthansa round trip. Hope this helps.

Today I going through podcasts on Itunes and found one called "amatuer traveler" there was one for Germany! I'm going to see what other ones they have for Germany.:coffee:

I "glanced" over this blog so I would not spoil any part of the trip. All of the food looks so good.

I cannot wait to try all of the "different" foods that we do not get here. :cheer2:

A couple of weeks ago, the Disney Food Blog had an entry about the food on the Germany ABD. As a fellow foodie, I found it fascinating and thought others may enjoy it as well. It does talk about a couple of the activities, so while not quite a spoiler, it may not be something for those who want everything to be a surprise. http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2013/01/08/foodie-highlights-from-adventures-by-disney-germany/

Thank you Christy! I really enjoyed reading this!

Even though I can't go with you this time, I'm doing the vicarious version and reading along!

Loved the blog about the food on the trip. I stayed at the Vier Jahreszeiten many years ago and it was fabulous. The breakfasts are memorable. It was opera season when I was there and I would sit in the luxurious lobby in the evening and watch couples sweep through in beautiful gowns and capes on their way to the opera. The building is very old. Our room was fairly small, don't remember anything about the plumbing. At that time, pre-cell phone, if a message came for a guest, a formally dressed staff member would walk through the lobby with the message on a silver tray, looking for the recipient. Very Downton Abbey!

Crap, Chisty just pointed out to me that the Hotel in Munich sits on the equivalent of their Champs-Élysées or Rodeo Drive.

Hopefully someone can anwer my question - What makes Lufthansa stand out from the rest?

I learned the hard way I am unable to listen to Rick Steve's podcasts while working.....they are instant snoozefests. I will have to stick to his tv shows.

I enjoy Lufthansa, but I might be a bit biased since I am German. What I like about them is that their planes generally are very new. I love flying their A330 or A340 across the Atlantic as they appear to be roomier in Economy. However, some other European carriers actually give you more leg room than Lufthansa.

One thing where Lufthansa is unique though: They test all their meals (even the economy ones) in a special laboratory which simulates the conditions on a flight (dry air, lower air pressure etc.) as they have found out that these conditions cause that people taste things differently. Supposedly that's also the reason why tomato juice tastes better in the air...

Hi everyone - wave

Just wanted to let you all know that John and Micki had a death in the family. John's mother, Mary, passed away this past weekend.

The wake will be tomorrow and the funeral will be either Thursday or Friday.

I told Micki we would all be keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers
