Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread - Take 2

On this note, another potentially helpful tip - the first Princess, I was worried b/c I was due that weekend and hadn't gotten it yet. So I kept $1 in quarters in my shoe pocket in case I needed to make an emergency purchase in the MK bathrooms! Fortunately, it held off until that night, but I still had to make that purchase in the Tomorrowland bathroom! I'm sure a med tent would have had some feminine supplies but I REALLY did not want to have to ask for them AND deal with that in a porta potty!!!!!

I definitely want to be prepared! Thanks for the tip!

Have had to deal with this as well. Another reason for a Sparkle Skirt- the pockets hold a lot. Been there, done that, hated it :(

yeah... not sure I like it much, but now I figure I can at least deal with it should it happen again in a month.

So glad I have a place to talk about TMI stuff too! So far, in the last 2.5 years of doing races, I've managed to avoid this problem for race day...pure luck. However, I think this weekend at Tink my lucky streak may be over. I told the BF this AM (just to see the face he would make) that I wasn't going to have room in my fuel belt pouches because of my Clif shots and that he was going to have to carry some "supplies" for me. :rotfl2: lol. He was like "uhhhh, I wasn't planning on wearing a belt for this one..." I love messing with the men-folk on those issues sometimes. At least he didn't flat out say "no way, no how, you must be on drugs" or something along those lines! I need to see if I can find out where there might be some "real" potties on the course though for Tink that I can detour to...and figure out a good place to stash my supplies because I can just see me at mile 9, tired and fumbling for a Clif Shot and pulling the wrong thing out...or having to stop to pick up whatever accidentally falls out :lmao: Luck should be back on my side for Princess next month!

I hope luck is with you next month... too funny about messing with the men-folk!:rotfl:

Well, waivers are supposed to be available one month prior to race day, which will give you your bib#. Sometimes this happens on time, sometimes it doesn't...it did most recently for Tink though, however it was maybe a week or a little more after that before they posted the corral breakdown on the website. Once you have your bib # though, you can usually make a decent guess about where you'll be though...maybe give or take one corral. When is the other 10k you are considering? A few minutes difference in time could change your corral if you're right at the cutoff of one corral, but if it does it'll probably only be one corral up which will only start you 5 minutes sooner than where you would've been...so that's probably what you should consider when deciding whether or not it's worth it to try. If it's too close to race day, I don't know that I'd risk pushing too hard for a slightly better time and risking some sort of injury that close to race day.

:scratchin so it could happen just about any time between now and the race :rotfl:

Well, the 10 is only a week an a half away and I am far from getting to a taper (at least as far as my training program goes) I may go for it... afterall... is is only 6 miles :rotfl2:
About 4 weeks from race day.
thanks :thumbsup2

Oh how I hope I have a solid guess on my Princess corral before Feb. 2! That's my 10K proof race in case I need it. It's a stunning course and I'd love to run it... someday... but exactly as you said Cripey, I don't want to race hard and pay the price at this point. I had no time to submit, but I'm not aiming for A, B or C, either. Assuming they go up to H again, I'd be happy in E or F. I've had good runDisney corral juju thus far with no proof of time: C for the TOT and A (?!?!) for the W&D 5K, so maybe...

Wow... I guess I just assumed that in order to not be placed in the last coral you HAD to have a time to submit. You make it sound as though maybe when you register plays a role in your placement? I didn't have a time for ToT and was in D... but then with proof brought to the expo I was moved to C. If the corrals go up to H, I guess I would be happy to be in D. I waited to register though until the ToT expo... and the time I emailed in was with a 10k finish time of like an hour and 6 minutes. I really was hoping to not be in the last corral

You are fine! In 2011 I was in B with a 10k time of 1:07. Participant numbers have increased since then so in 2013 that could put you in C, but I don't think you have anything to worry about!

Do they have a place to check bags or is that just for the race retreat?

Does anyone know how often they have water stations. I'm trying to figure out if I need to carry water.

Here's the route for the half, all the places marked with W are water stops:
http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/princess/2013-Princess-Half-Course.pdf
They give you a clear plastic bag that says run disney, you put a sticker that they give you with your bib number and you drop it off before the race at the Epcot Parking Lot, then after you just go and pick it up.
It'll all be explained in the final race instructions.

What you described about the pain makes perfect sense now! Thank you for explaining what no doctor/PT did!!
I hear ya - the ortho I saw explained NOTHING to me, either; everything I've gleaned has been thanks to Google searches and the many folks who've blogged about their trials and tribulations with ITBS. Also, the Sock Doc. Google him up - pretty interesting approach he takes!

I run the same side of the road always, but it's a there and back run and on half my right side faces the side of the roadway and the other half, the left side faces the roadway. That should make it slightly okay, right?
Maybe - you are getting equal time on both sides, but it could be each half is too long. Other things I've read to be attributed to ITBS are: shoes (too much/too little stability), leg length discrepancies, form (taking too long strides), weak glutes and/or hip abductors, weak knees and/or ankles. Yeah, it's quite the list, lol! I tried to hit all possibilities - try to run down the center of roads and stick to non-canted paths when possible, strengthened all muscles groups, stretched, rolled, switched shoes... I don't know which of those things helped, maybe all!

You make it sound as though maybe when you register plays a role in your placement?
I have no hard evidence, but based on my experiences and anecdotal evidence form other Disney runners... I'd bet hard cash that when you register has some influence on corral placement, coupled with what estimated finishing time you entered. Apparently, there are folks who enter times longer than the minimum that can be entered without proof, so that has some bearing, for sure.

Icing and resting today. I stopped taking my standard Aleve before because I thought it might be causing some stomach issues. But on last night's run I was feeling something remarkably like shin splints. I think the anti-inflammatory was masking some bad stuff.

So, I'm taking the rest of the week off. Beware the Aleve! It's only good in moderation.

I had my own first world issue yesterday when I saw that they screwed around with the menu at Le Cellier and now it looks like that burger is no longer on the menu. Pretty disappointed with that! Oh, well, I guess I'll just HAVE to order the filet mignon.....:lmao:
I am so bummed about this change, too! DD loved the burger, and I'm not really fond of paying $43 for a filet FOR LUNCH......:sad1: LeCellier has been our favorite Must Do, but this may change things - I don't DDP, so this change hurts the wallet.....

About 4 weeks from race day.
That would make it around January 27th or so.

Anyone speculate when we will get our corral assignments?
Awesome things happen in February for my life, so I would be so happy if they came out on February 2 - this is the day I quit smoking (2007) and the day I told my hubby I would run this PHM (2012).

Someone posted a map here, but there should be water stops every 1.5 miles, with a fuel stop (most likely Clif) between 8 and 9. I'm a huge drinker, so I plan on bringing water with me.

There is a HUGE bag check for runners, before you get to the corrals. I think it's organized by your bib number (instead of name). I actually am going to skip bag check and have my DD carry a backpack with my stuff in it. :)

Where do I find info about qualifying times? I just did a 15k and I want to know if I can use it to move up in the corrals.

I think the only thing they say officially is you can submit it to move up if the time you have predicts you for a 2:45 or faster half. There are various online calulators online you can Google and enter your time and distance to see what that would estimate a half to be for you. Even if it ends up being a little over 2:45 on whatever calculator you use, I'd submit it because I've found that whatever calculator runDisney uses to predict your time tends to be very generous :)

Okay, so now that we are closing in on the 1 month mark (how terrifying/exciting it that?) im doing some serious thinking about what I will be carrying on the day of the race. I have tried using a running belt to carry my things, but find that they just wont stay down on my hips no matter what I try. Now im trying to figure out how to tuck everything into my skirt. I know I want to carry one pack of clif shot blocks and my phone (im going to use it to take picture so I don’t have to carry my camera too). Now im left thinking about whether I should or shouldn’t bring my ipod…I always use it when I run, but will there be enough on the course that I don’t need it. How many of you will be running with yours?

have you looked into a spibelt? Or the arm band to carry your Ipod?

I use a fuel belt, I have trained to carry my own water so now I feel funning if I don't have it. But that is just me.

Normally I would bring mine and run with it in one ear only. The Disney races have tons of fun entertainment to distract you, but there are still some boring highway stretches and I tend to get bored there if I'm running the race by myself. This year, I'll be running with my BF for Princess so I may not bring it since I'll have someone to talk to me if I'm bored...I probably won't do too much talking back though :) If you do decide to bring it, I'd suggest keeping the music low and only using one earpiece so you don't miss out on anything...and once you get into Epcot...put it away/turn it off completely...you surely don't want to miss one single decible of the sound coming from the gospel choir before the last turn to the finish and the cheering crowds on the home stretch!

In case there are any interested Princesses, I have an Illuminations Cruise booked for Friday night, and we have room for 5 more. If we get it full, it works out to $35/person not including tip. If anyone's interested, PM me.

In regard to proof of time in order to move up in a corral, how recent must the time be? I last ran a 10K in 11/2007. Thanks

Cindy

Hi everyone, sorry that I haven't posted on here lately I have been barely keeping up with the FB pages since I am running Tinkerbell this weekend that is where I have been focusing my attention. I hope everyone's training is going well.

I have a little dilemma and wanted to see if anyone out there could me out. My husband changed our plane tickets and now we are staying at WDW for an extra day. The problem is I bought the park tickets already and they can't be upgraded with another day cause I bought them with the PHM code.

I have 2- 2 day park hopper passes which I paid $295. I was wondering if there was someone who didn't buy their passes yet for the parks, if they would be interested in purchasing these passes so I can purchase 3 day passes. I already have the tickets in hand so I can send them out to you right away, along with the original receipt in case you have any issues.

I don't check the thread often enough and I am leaving for the weekend so if you are interested please PM me or send me an email.

Keep up the good work training.

oh! I'm jealous! I'd totally do it if we were going into the parks that day and I didn't have small children who would be terrified! Have fun!
