Direct Add-on?

I called my guide yesterday and he was not available. I was looking to possiblty doing a small add on of 50 points at either SSR or OKW. The guide that I spoke with said there was a waiting list for both.

I thought that these points were easy to come by? Has anybody tried to do a direct add-on recently? If so, how long did it take to come in.

Thanks

I'm a bit surprised there is a waitlist for SSR, but not especially surprised about OKW. The problem is probably a lack of inventory for your use year.

You never know when they might acquire more via foreclosure or ROFR, so if you are serious, it wouldn't hurt to go on the waitlist. Believe you have to give them a deposit to do that, though.

We were on the waitlist twice last year for two small add ons at VGC. While you give them a credit card to charge, they don't actually charge anything until you get the points. No deposit, at least when I did it.

Of course, you have to be careful if you tell them a range of points you'd take rather than a specific number. Once we did a set number and the guide called us and told us the points came in (after about a 6 month wait) and they had already charged the card.

But the second time we gave him a range since we were told it was easier to ask for more points and then take fewer, and we were undecided. Well, we got the max we had asked for, but no one ever called us to confirm that was OK with us. We only found out we had gotten the points when I went online and saw they were in my account.

A waitlist for SSR???

Well, this is a first. Like another poster said, it must be your UY. If they start ROFRing SSR hell must be freezing over.

Good luck!!

Might be a tactic to get buyers to purchase the resorts that are actively being sold which makes them a higher profit.

I have 2 conversations with the guide and she made no mention of any other resorts except that BWV was available. The guide was very unsure, she seemed new.
I did leave a debit hold if and when the points become available.
I tried for any use year. I'm thinking I might call back to speak with another guide.

We wait listed for a month for our OKW add on to come through. They took our CC number but didn't charge the deposit until we ok'd the contract.

When we called our guide for a small add-on for another resort we were told there were about 150 points left in our UY. Waited and a day or so and they were gone. About three weeks later close to 800. Each day you can a different answer because the inventory can change. If that is the resort you want, and you have decided to go direct, then check back with your guide or try the waitlist.

I called in Dec to add on HH points...30-40 with Aug UY. The guide I spoke to said they had a couple hundred and if I bought them I would be able to use them that same night. I didn't buy, but spoke to the DH first and he wanted to check out resale. We did that for a couple weeks and couldn't find the right contract (well, we did find one and made an offer that got accepted and we sent in our signed papers and deposit and were told that it was sent to Disney for ROFR...then 8 days later we were told that the contract was cancelled). So, we decided this Tuesday to call back and buy the direct points...55 at HH with Aug UY. My guide told me that there were 60 that morning but she didn't know if they were still available...she'd put our info in and if they were available they would be ready for us to use them the next night...and if they weren't available, we'd be on the wait list. She took our CC info (we will use our Disney CC to get the rewards points). All day yesterday I looked at at the online memeber site for our points, looked at my CC online to see if we were being billed for the points and even called MS to see if the points were there...NOTHING. Got up today and checked some more...NOTHING. Called the DVC sales office and my guide was not in, but the guy on the phone looked me up and said we were on the wait list. My guide called this evening and tells me that she can't see where we are on the wait list (basically) and explains that everyone wanting to buy at the sold-out DVC resorts goes on the wait list (points could be there but they go on the list and then another dept. gives out the points----> the guide takes the info and puts the buyer on the wait list and then another department (that also does the new DVC resort sales) looks at the inventory and goes down the wait list and gives out the points. If one person is ahead of me for HH points with Aug UY but they want 75 points and there are only 60, then I will get the points and the other folks will stay on the wait list. If nobody else is ahead of me on the list, I will get the points. Also, the folks that go through the inventory and give out the points, they do the sold-out resort stuff in between doing the new DVC resort stuff and my guide said that they are currently behind. But, what I don't get is that she seemed to be able to see all this in Dec and knew we'd get the points that night...Tue-today she can't tell me and she asked me to wait until 1/25.

Perhaps you have run into a new year- new procedures type of situation.

I wonder if they will be more active ROFR-ing contracts to keep any wait.lists for direct purchasers to a bare minimum.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

When you buy direct, the points are usually loaded quickly...mine showed up in my account within hours and I was able to make a reservation the very next day.

When I was looking to add on in Oct/Nov, the inventory changed rapidly. We'd originally planned on a SSR add on and there was inventory in Mid Oct. My rep was on vacation then I went on vacation and changed my mind to BWV by the end of the month.

BWV had inventory (so did BC), she put the contract through, then found out some of the resorts were never licensed for sale into all states, mine (WA) being one of them so they kicked back! So I said I'd take SSR. Wasn't available in my UY anymore. Which meant, based on inventory for my UY and whether it was licensed for sale in my state, my only options were AKV and Aulani, not at all what I wanted.

Thankfully my rep got creative as she knows we travel and we were able move forward but have our docs sent to CA when we were visiting there a few weeks later. I did get the points in about 4 days of her getting approval to do this and the deposit finally going through but it was nerve wracking until that deed showed up! I was paranoid about booking with them until we'd signed those closing docs as it was a good 3 weeks between the deposit and our trip. Apparently all that mattered was where the docs were signed, not where I actually lived. Even funnier was the only notary we could find near our hotel ended up being in the Philippine Embassy! So technically we signed them in another country, though it was notarized by the state of CA. :rotfl:

 my rep.

What is interesting to me is I had no idea you could waitlist with a CC.

Mine were loaded within the hour and was able to make reservations too.

One contract was last year (Dec.) and one this year (Jan.).

The one that we are still on a waitlist for is VGC and they did not take a deposit. Again it can depend on the inventory of points and UY for each resort.

Well I don't know why I am being told...today...that points are there in inventory but she doesn't know if I get them or if there's someone else on the wait list who will get them. I don't know why she told me to hang on for a week to see if I get the points. I don't know why she said there's another department that goes through the inventory and gives out the points (not the guides...they just take down what contract we want...# of points, UY, resort). I don't know why she said they were backed up and it may take several days to do this. I don't know why in Dec she knew right away they had points in inventory that I could buy and have access to that same night. I feel like either A- she is trying to keep me hanging on for a week in hopes that points will become available because I said I didn't want to be on the wait list and was going to pull off or B- there are changes happening with buying points at the sold-out resorts (sold out resorts meaning all resorts but AKV and Aulani)...maybe something to do with pushing folks to buy AKV and Aulani instead (they will also be selling GF soon).

And I gave my CC info but have not been charged anything and won't be until they give me points. She will keep looking into it and when she sees that I get the points she will call me and if I don't get them by 1/25 she will call me and discuss what I want to do.

BLT is considered sold out. Only true inventory not sold out and being "actively" marketed is AKV and Aulani.

I knew it was close but I didn't think it was sold out yet as they are still offering incentives to purchase there.

FWIW, I just added on at BLT direct through Disney. I got the same story from my guide about point availability for my UY looking like it was there but it being so close that he wasn't sure. (He actually put me on hold and called the "other department" only to be told they were behind in processing contracts.)

He told me that I might end up on a wait list because he knew some BLT contracts had been purchased earlier that day. When I replied that part of the reason I was adding on right now was because we wanted to book a stay on points, he did say he would get back to me within a few hours if the purchase couldn't go through due to lack of points. Fortunately, he called back about 3 hours later to let me know that I had gotten the last points in my UY and they were being processed as we spoke. My CC balance indicated the charge went through that evening and I was able to access the points the next morning.

BLT is apparently no longer being actively marketed and the BLT incentives aren't as good as AKV or Aulani - no $500 gift card or anything - though I did get $7 off per point on my add-on.

I don't get what's going on. My guide asked me if we were needing to book a vacation soon...I should have said yes, but I said 'pretty soon...we're trying to figure out a big family trip and will need to book soon'. That's when she asked me to give it until Friday 1/25. She said the 'other department' was behind too. That's strange...up until now folks report getting their points right away (like you ended up getting).

We are trying to book a big family Xmas trip. We want to stay at AKV and I am now looking at AKV resales (been offering on a resale contract this weekend). We will need to book that ASAP...but if I add onto HH, I'll have to wait until 7 months out to book it. If I add on a resale at AKV, I need to have that contract go through now (as it takes 2 months or so) so that we can book before the 7 month window opens up. I won't buy AKV direct...no way...double the price. The contract we are trying to buy, the sellers made us a good counter offer and my dumb DH made me counter that to try to get them lower and they rejected it. I then asked if we could go ahead with their counter offer and they aren't replying (which I understand completely...it was just listed on Friday and they may get other offers, so why deal with us after we were trying to low-ball them). I thought it would be way easier to spend my money...it's been a strike out at every at bat (3 now).

I inquired about an add-on at BCV in September with my guide and he told me points were available for my February use year. I was waiting for a bonus check and I didn't get it until October. When I called my guide back in October, he said he had to check inventory, which took a minute or so, and then stated I was all set. My points were in my account the next day.
