C25K! Anyone else in?

My DS12 and I are "running" the Exepedition Everest Challenge in May!

Oh I'm so jealous! I really want to do that, and so does DH, but he needs to back off from the jogging for right now as he was getting an achilles injury. He would be very sad if I did it and he didn't, and I don't want him to be sad. Plus, it's so expensive! And of course we would have to get back out there again. Maybe next year, sniffle.

And I have to tell you guys, I finished W8D1 yesterday and in case anyone heard the theme to Rocky playing... that was me because I FREAKING JUST RAN 2 MILES!!!!!!!!!!

And here I thought I heard that music last night because for some reason the gym was playing it! :rotfl:

No seriously, the gym was playing some really odd music last night, and that theme was one of the things played. As I did my Week 9, 1st run. This is my redo of c25k; first time through was by *time*. This time through is by miles. So last night was actually 3 miles on the treadmill (at a bit of an incline), which is a first time. I cracked up when I heard that music....

Too funny! Great job on the mileage!

I did W8D2 yesterday at the gym. It was uneventful but it did feel good to lap people! I usually am the one getting lapped (now mind you, they were all walking!) :rolleyes1

Oh I am in the process of revamping my blog. I did rename it already though and changed the website address. I think it fits me a bit better. http://skinnygeekwithin.blogspot.com/

I'm sure you were an inspiration to the walkers who *want* to be runners!

I "finished" the program again, though I think I'll keep on doing the 3 mile runs a bit longer before thinking of moving on. Maybe increase the incline a bit more so my legs really get used to something more like running on the ground, since I'm a treadmill-runner for training.

I did the last treadmill-run without anything to do but run...I haven't been using my music b/c when I run with music I run TO the music, which means I'm not listening to my legs and lungs. But on the last run, I forgot my Kindle, too. BORING!

So what do others do when they finish the program?

When I finished it i did bridge to 10k

I'm going to do Bridge to 10K also but not right away. I think I'm going to try to get to running 5Ks 3 times per week and then start working off shaving time off my runs. Once I get them into a reasonable time frame then I'll start on the 10K training.

I need to get busy and start finding some 5Ks that I want to run now!

That's my plan. I figure I'll focus on 5K improvements between now and the Expedition Everest Challenge at the beginning of May. Then I'll start the Bridge to 10K, because I have this fantasy of maybe running the Tower of Terror 10 miler in September!

Awesome advice. Thank you!

No problem. It mostly has to do with endurance. If the furthest you've ever run is 5k, it's going to be an obstacle to get there every time. If you are doing 5 or 6 mile runs once a week, your 5k becomes easier in comparison.

Would you recommend adding 2 minutes each run (still doing 3 runs per week)?

As it stands now, I'm barely hitting 2 miles if I run straight through both cool downs. (as of last week that was roughly 38 minutes for 2 miles). I was just thinking of tacking on a little bit more time each run until I actually hit 3.1 consistantly.

Oh wow that is totally my dream to run that one too! Sheesh at this point ANY Disney Race!!

That's what I was thinking I would do, but after seeing some other advice, maybe I will just move on. Of course I have to FINISH the C25k first :rotfl:

I think that is a great fantasy to have! My current fantasy is running the food and wine half! I think it's a stretch for this year, but maybe next year!

Actually, the best way to work on 5k speed as a beginning is to begin to lengthen your long run.

Thanks for the advice! Did you use any of these programs to start your running or did you just go out and do it?

Well, today I am officially half way through the C25k program. I visited my in-laws in Puerto Rico over the weekend and did my run there. I live in NY, so it has been cold and windy since I started this program. The heat and humidity were a welcome change to my bones, but it definitely slowed my time. And they are in a very hilly area, so that was new to this Long Island (read: flat) girl! But I did it!

Congrats! I'm running on my treadmill right now, but I know before my EEC race, I'll move it outdoors at least a month a head of time. I'm spoiled having the treadmill set my pace for me...

Oh my goodness that just sounds like a majestic place to run, despite the heat! Talk about a change of scenery!

Oh that's a great idea!

We have had nothing but rain here for almost 2 weeks straight. I miss the sun! So I'm headed back to the gym tonight to run. But today marks W9D1! If the schedule goes as planned, I will be a graduate of C25K on Saturday!

This was my "track" and my view - that's the Caribbean sea out there.
