'You Big Fatty!' A delicious dining review- COMPLETE!!

Another new dining experience for us!

DisneyDay143018.jpg

The Wave! We didn't really know what to expect but we wanted to try this restaurant as we had heard so many good reports about it.

It is a beautiful restaurant:

DisneyDay143004.jpg

But rather dark - so apologies for the quality of the photos!

We started off with some rather nice bread and butter:

DisneyDay143007.jpg

Sarah had chicken with blueberry bread pudding:

DisneyDay143012.jpg

Simon had the flat iron steak with noodles:

DisneyDay143010.jpg

This was my meal I think - sorry but I can't really remember what it was - some kind of beef I think!:

DisneyDay143009.jpg

And this was Kate's - I'm thinking pork tenderloin:

DisneyDay143011.jpg

For dessert, Simon had the sorbet selection:

DisneyDay143015.jpg

I had the creamy indulgence:

DisneyDay143013.jpg

Sarah had the American flavours trio:

DisneyDay143014.jpg

Kate was full so she had a pot of fruit tea:

DisneyDay143017.jpg

I also had a cocktail here - I can't remember what it was but it was a bit too sour for me!

Overall - we loved the wave. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. The Wave had a nice atmosphere and we would definitely go there again.

Coming up: The Flying Fish!

Back on board and reading along!

We went to The Wave when it was Concourse Steakhouse, looks like it's changed for the better! (Not that it was bad when we went, just didn't wow us)

Keep going Shari!

Cheers Meryll - the memories are fading somewhat but I'm trying to keep the momentum going! We also went to Concourse Steakhouse and were not overly impressed. The wave was much nicer! :)

Thanks for reading! Hope you feel better soon:flower3:

I wish I had a trip to Disney to look forward to - always the best medicine!

Hello!

Trying to be a bit better at updating. But it's cold and sooo snowy hear and consequently my brain will not work!

I'm longing for those lovely, warm, summer days of WDW. Ah well... maybe if I look at the photos and write about it I will feel warmer!

Next up - Flying Fish. A firm family favourite with us. We all went in 2008 and then Kate and I went for a 'girl's meal' in 2010. This time we would all be going together again. Good times!

Here's me and the old fella:

Day152005_zpsdd06459f.jpg

We were given a lovely basket of bread, alongside butter sprinkled with sea salt:

Day152008_zpsffffd136.jpg

Kate went for her very favourite dish - the potato wrapped snapper:

Day152013_zps92b2442b.jpg

She always loves this dish and this time was no exception.

Simon usually has the snapper but he decided to go for my old favourite the New York Strip Steak:

Day152011_zpsc69a6361.jpg

He really enjoyed this. I was slightly envious and wish I had gone for it too but I was determined to try something else for a change. I went for the scallops:

Day152009_zps0ba151c8.jpg

This was very tasty. But I think I would have preferred my old fave the strip steak. I did enjoy the scallops though.

Sarah, unusually for her, decided to have a fish dish for a change.

Day152014_zps501c4f30.jpg

I can't really remember what fish this was - but she loved it! A very good choice.

For dessert, I had the trio of concession sweets:

Day152019_zps214b3eea.jpg

Popcorn mousse and corn and caramel corn, cherry limeade popsicle, dark chocolate fudge burger an pound cake fries.

How much did I love this dessert?

Answer - lots and lots! It was so cute and imaginative - and tasty! I love desserts with lots of little components to try.

Somebody had this dessert:

Day152020_zps404d5ae7.jpg

I'm not sure what it was or who had it! Looks nice though and I'm sure they enjoyed it!

I think I had a Boardwalk bay breeze cocktail like last time - but I can't find a photo - how shocking of me!

The result of this evening was that we all fell in love with the Flying Fish once more. We had great service and great food - a wonderful place to spend as a family.

The Boardwalk looked beautiful all lit up in the dark when we came out of the restaurant. We walked down to the boat dock and caught the boat the the Studios to get a bus back to OKW.

A wonderful, magical evening. :)

I've been dying to try the snapper at FF but we never manage to make it there! Your dessert looks fantastic.

I'm all caught up and loving your reviews. I am just dying to try Victoria & Alberts...if I could only convince DH to pack a jacket! I'm going to make him read your review!

I just read from the beginning to this last installment and I loved...LOVED it all...I didnt even need the photos ..as your descriptions made me drool all over the computer...you are outstanding in your reviews of all these places...and I thank you so much for doing this..

Lunch at 50s Prime Time Diner was a good choice (in 2010 the combination of late afternoon dinner and a rain storm made this an appalling venue choice - although the food was still good - with a wait of more than an hour despite an ADR!) for a popular restaurant.
The waiter was fun, although not quite as good as 2010 who had been a bit more 'improv', our waiter was fun but did feel as though he was very much on script.
As Shari noted we started with the very crisp and tasty onion rings before I moved onto my personal favourite of Golden Fried Chicken. Were I to win the Lottery tomorrow, I would fill a bath with this wonderful food and bathe and eat in it all. Despite giving you all nightmares and potential future trauma with that image and putting you off chicken for life, I would heartily recommend trying this as it is really a fab dish. Aside from the green stuff (which is no better than the yellow stuff served in 2010 - Shari again has notes on vegetable content as that doesn't actually form any part of my food vocabulary), it was great.
The apple cobbler (apparently seasonal fruit but if anyone has ever had anything but apple, I'd love to know) was delicious too. Quite rich and filling and with a generous portion of ice cream, I thoroughly enjoyed this dessert. A definite hit all round.
This all set me up nicely for an afternoon of Star Tours goodness (which if you hadn't guessed from the avatar, Star Tours is a pretty important part of my holiday).

a little late to the party but just wanted to say that I enjoy you chiming in and giving your take on the meals as well - also enjoy that you select beer at each meal ;)

Also, if you couldn't tell from my user name, Star Tours is also a key part of my holiday at Disney:darth:

That dessert was so cute! The snapper is a firm favourite with our family :)

It was a wonderful experience - and not too stuffy!

You are welcome - thank you for reading!

Yep - we love the Star Wars in this family!

Ooh ooh, another restaurant! Almost missed this update!

Shame on you Meryll!;);)

Ahhhh....Jiko! The recipient of the only 10 out of 10 from our 2010 holiday. Would it be as good as we remembered?

Our experience did not start well due to some typical teenage stroppiness and angst. But we were determined to rise above it and have us a good time. Look - here is mine and Simon's stiff upper lips (well, we ARE British you know!):

Day162023.jpg

Here are the lovely napkins:

Day162022.jpg

We were given some nice bread and tandoori butter to start with:

Day162024.jpg

This was really nice but we enjoyed the taste of Africa dips and pappadom, poppy seed lavosh and house made naan:

Day162027.jpg

Day162025.jpg

Yummilicious! The breads were all very tasty and the dips were great - a little spicier than I would normally go for - but so delicious I didn't care.

We also decided to try some of the beef bobotie rolls:

Day162026.jpg

And we were very glad we did! They were soon snaffled up. Crispy and delicious.

I decided to go for the seared Barbarie Duck breast:

Day162030.jpg

I really enjoyed this - there were piles of meat. Occasionally it would be a little chewy but overall very nice.

Sarah continued her adventurous eating quest and had the swordfish:

Day162028.jpg

She really loved this! She especially loved the vegetables that came with it.

Simon had the chicken:

Day162029.jpg

He doesn't often have chicken in WDW - as we have it quite often at home and he likes to be more adventurous when eating at Disney. But he loved this dish.

I can't find what Kate had - she was probably having a sulk ;)

I think the girls shared the cheese board for dessert:

Day162032.jpg

This dessert is chocolately - so it was probably Simon's!!!

Day162035.jpg

This might have been mine - some kind of fruit cake:

Day162031.jpg

So, this was another wonderful meal at Jiko - it certainly did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and the service was very good.

I would heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is so different to other restaurants but very warm and welcoming.

Big Fatty Rating: A whopping 9 out of 10 (lost a point because of holiday stress!)

Coming up: Sanaa!!!

Earlier that day - we must have had a little trip to Starring Rolls....;)

DisneyDay16006.jpg

DisneyDay16005.jpg

DisneyDay16004.jpg

I love this place so much! Everything is tasty and fresh and delicious. And the portions are so generous. There was so much ham in that sandwich. The cakes and desserts are amazing and it's very difficult to choose which one to have!

I love to have a break from the hustle and bustle of the studios at this place - I always vow to go there more but never get round to it. It's a wonderful place to spend a counter service credit :)

So - the next day we went off to The Animal Kingdom Lodge (yes, we HAD just been there the night before!) but this time we were at Kidani Village for lunch at Sanaa.

We had eaten dinner at Sanaa in 2010 and absolutely loved it. We were interested to try lunch this time as the lunch menu was slightly different. Here are the young ladies at the table:

DisneyDay17008.jpg

We got shown to our table quite quickly but then things got a bit bizarre. We had a young man as our server and he was possibly the Slowest. Server. Ever. He was polite enough but just didn't really seem to know what he was doing. We spent long long periods wondering whether he had gone back to Scarborough for each of our courses.

The young lad eventually came to take our drinks order and then disappeared. People at tables to the left and right of us were seated, orders taken and drinks/food delivered way before us. Yes, they had a different server.

The drinks finally came. I was looking forward to this:

DisneyDay17013.jpg

The kande coconut cooler. I'd had one in 2010 and loved it. I really enjoyed it again - despite the loooooooong wait for it!

Ages after we were ready, we finally got to order some food. And yes, once more it was ages before the food actually arrived. We did enjoy it though.

I had the tandoori chicken and beef short ribs with 5 grain pilaf:

DisneyDay17014.jpg

Simon had the tandoori chicken and shrimp with white rice:

DisneyDay17015.jpg

Sarah had the vegetarian option:

DisneyDay17018.jpg

Kate had the tandoori chicken on naan bread:

DisneyDay17017.jpg

These dishes were all very tasty. We were just exhausted from all the waiting!

We decided to risk dessert (although by this time, most of the other diners around us had finished and departed!)

I knew what dessert I wanted - the sampler:

DisneyDay17019.jpg

Chocolate cake, chai cream and kulfi. I loved this!

This looks like some kind of chocolate cake - probably Simon's!:

DisneyDay17020.jpg

I think this was some kind of passion fruit dessert that Sarah had:

DisneyDay17021.jpg

Eventually this meal came to an end.....

I'm not sure how to mark this meal really - the food was just as good as before - the server (I'm sure his name was Todd) was very nice just very slow (the girls loved him - maybe because he was quite cute and obviously a novice) And we do still love this beautiful restaurant.

Big Fatty Rating: 6 out of 10 (would have been much higher with speedier service!)

Coming up: Wolfgang Puck breakfast and .....California Grill!!!!

The thing about teenagers is - they like to sleep - a lot! So one morning when the girls were in the land of nod still, Simon and I decided to go and get breakfast at WPE - something we had never tried before. We started with a lovely cup of coffee:

DisneyDay18001.jpg

DisneyDay18003.jpg

Simon ordered the breakfast pocket - it was enormous!:

DisneyDay18005.jpg

I ordered the waffle with fresh fruit and whipped cream:

DisneyDay18004.jpg

Hmmm...spot something? Yes! That's right! No whipped cream! They had 'run out' apparently! I ate most of the waffle and fruit but it was very dry :worried:

And I was a bit peeved that whilst I was eating they had obviously been restocked with whipped cream as they brought the people at the next table some out - but never offered me any! How rude!

We did enjoy our breakfast here - it was a lovely, peaceful start to the day and I do love the WPE menu. But there always seems to be some kind of hiccup when we go there! We would definitely go again though.

After some fun in the Magic Kingdom we went to Main Street bakery and had a cookie and a cheese danish:

DisneyDay18048.jpg

I'd been dying to try a cheese danish after hearing some wonderful reports of it on here. Well, I loved it! It was so tasty and I'm craving one right now!

Coming up - California Grill!

Loving your reviews!! I must admit that those wontons from Y&Y have been on my mind since I had them last - 4 years ago! I was so excited when my husband said we should go there again since he loves the mango cheesecake.;) So, it's on our list for our trip in 2 months. Yeah!

Also need to check out that shrimp and fries basket at CHH and that strawberry shortcake at SS.

Thanks for broadening my horizons!
