I figured out the difference, this is from the "Room Type & Pricing" chart from the website's info section on the Poly and what I quoted is from the room description in the reservation system. Either way, there is no "pool view" category. Still wonder what the CM's were talking about with jenniferma?

I am jenniferma and I am still wondering too. We check in one week.. I am going to ask at check in wth the disney people were talking about? It's really odd to me that two of them told me the same thing.

It would not surprise me if WDW did add another tier.. just from a profit perspective. I mean-- $50 more a night-- I think they would have takers on those rooms in Samoa that overlook the Volcano pool. The standard view rooms have such a wide range of views. In other hotels like POR they have waterview (which I think is similar to lagoon) but aren't there garden views v. standard? I wouldn't be surprised if Poly did go this route too. Big difference between looking out at the parking lot/monorail and overlooking the Volcano pool. I hope not.. but I would not be shocked.

Will let you know what they say at Poly next week! sorry for all the confusion today. :confused3

I have poly booked and am due to check in two days after pool reopens. I am nervous it won't open in time and have the chance for BLT instead in one br. Convince me I should stay at the poly?
we have Ohana booked for dinner and was looking forward to watching wishes from the beach and pool.

Don't apologize! I'm sorry a simple room request has added this frustration/confusion for you. I have never heard of this before! Hopefully it was just a matter of a couple of CM's who were confused and you will get your request with no extra charges!

When I originally booked my reservation I tried to request Figi/3rd floor/marina view. The CM told me that she couldn't add the marina view part because it was a garden view and I had booked standard. Rather than argue I just let it go and figured I would call back later to change it. I knew that at the Poly garden IS standard view.

Our trip is in 10 days, and I just called yesterday to change my request. This time I asked for Samoa/3rd floor/volcano side (originally I thought Samoa would be under rehab, but with the latest dates posted it should be open). The CM happily added this request and removed the original one I had for Figi. She didn't hesitate and certainly did not ask for more money for this view.

I wonder if they have some new CMs working the phones who don't really understand the Poly and it's many views. Perhaps they are getting confused between asking for something that's a pool view (no extra charge) and lagoon view (extra charge).

Either that or someone is trying to make some money on the side. It seems awfully fishy that "Disney Accounting" would call you directly, when extra charges for a pool view are listed nowhere on the official Disney website. Seems like a scam someone could easily pull with a little insider information given to them.

Ok, I am crabby now.

I'm going to Disney for the Princess Half Marathon. I'm scheduled to stay at my favorite, the Polynesian. Now I hear that the volcano pool will be closed from Feb 18 - Mar 1. I'm bummed.

And I need to decide if I want to book somewhere else. :( No pool and no Hawaii building. Can't decide if it's a deal breaker. What would you do?

Link on the pool closure? I haven't heard this yet...

I think you are right!! It does sound like there might be new CMs working the phones. The standard view ( I believe they use to call it garden view) has always included pool views and marina views for no extra charge. The 3 times we have stayed at Poly we have stayed in Fiji Marina view and were never charged extra for it. Even when I booked the BB offer this past September I requested Fiji marina view.

The main pool in zero degree entry like a beach she will definitely be able to stand for a while but there are parts that will be too deep for her to stand

Thanks! She is 48in tall already- almost the same height as my DD7! Any idea how deep in feet the Volcano Pool gets? I've googled it but cannot find a good answer!

Also, where in the room would you put the pack n' play or crib? I've seen layouts and there doesn't seem to be a good spot for one. Do you have to remove the chair by the sliding glass door? We are staying LV CL, so it would be the "smaller" of the two types of room sizes. Thanks again!

She should be fine in most of the volcano pool. I don't know the specific depth, but the deepest part is in the rounded area at the GCH end, where the slide lets out. She should be "almost" able to touch there. Our DD7 is pretty much 48" tall & she can almost touch there (her face goes under, but the water is maybe to the top of her head? - hard to remember exactly). If she would be more comfortable there are life ackets available for free at the marina office. You just have to sign them out with your room card and you can keep them for the length of your stay (just return it to the marina when you're done, don't leave it in your room).

It's been a while since we've used a pack & play, so I'm rusty on the exact size, but I'm thinking if you push the chair right back into the corner & move the automan it should fit over by the patio door (without taking the chair right out).

Our trip is in 17 days and we have the exact same request! I posted about this earlier, but wanted to add that I entirely agree with your assessment. I checked the Disney website a few times yesterday and saw no changes to their room categories or descriptions. I do think it's really odd that "Disney Accounting" would call a guest to add a charge.

I am just wondering what other people are planning to do if the pool is not open during their stay? It is a dealbreaker for us and I called disney this morning and they told me that we would be unable to use any other resort pools if it isn't open...is that correct? Poly is a lot to spend and have no pool to use.

I could move to a one BR at BLT for ten dollars more and am considering it....will I regret that move?

If the pool being open is a deal breaker and you can get A 1 BDR for 10$ more ?Wow good deal. I would definitely switch. My kids love BLT and the having stayed in the 1 bdr. Villa I can tell you is wonderful full kitchen, 2 bathrooms main with jacuzzi tub LOVE Soaking in that after day at parks, great viewing a
Lounge for wishes, and a quick walk to MK. My kids enjoyed the pool at BLT as well.

I would say if the pool not being open is a deal breaker for you and for $10 more you can stay at BLT, I would go with BLT. It says they are doing a volcano feature pool acid wash and it's from Feb 18 -March 1. Of course there's no way to really know if they will have everything done by March 1st like it says.

Just wanted to clarify.. When I did call back, they did verify the woman that had called from Disney accounting was legit. They had her name etc on my account and the time she called etc... She was legit. Her name was Vicki :)

Ok. I decided not to change resorts. I can't leave the Polynesian. I'm hoping for the best regarding pool closure and Hawaii closure.

Maybe Hawaii will finish early and I can upgrade myself. Hey, a girl can dream! I just refuse to worry about it anymore. I'll figure it out on check in.

And Princessap, I wouldn't switch. I bet the pool work will be completed by your check in date. If it isn't, be super friendly and explain your problem and that you want to switch resorts, if at all possible. My other belief is that they won't have the Polynesian volcano pool and the GF courtyard pool both closed at the same time. I could be wrong, but I just don't see Disney doing that. If the volcano pool is closed, you are usually offered the pools at the GF, which are great as well. Of course, nothing is guaranteed!

Wish we had a crystal ball and could know for sure what shape the Polynesian Resort will be in at any date!

I cannot stop overthinking this...am I in the right place? Leave on Friday - :yay: - current request is for adjoining rooms with my parents and either balcony or patio. We have one 4yo son...

I can't decide if I should leave things to the Tiki Gods for our first visit or if I should request a specific longhouse. The only thing I fear is a parking lot view.

Also can't decide if I should just ask for the patio - but then, making the request specific makes it that much harder to fill...

can someone tell me to just let it go already?

thanks!

I don't think there is ever really a blatant, full-on parking lot view room at the Poly. You may be able to see the parking lot beyond greenery from a few of the longhouses (mainly one side of Rapu Nui), but with the number of GV rooms the odds are you won't be looking at the parking.
