WISH Away the Pounds--January 2013 challenge--Everyone Welcome!

Welcome, Trina!

Mystery machine - of course you are welcome even if you are not actively losing weight. :)

QOTD January 7, 2013

Do you snack or are you a strict 3 meals a day kind of person while working on your goals? What is your healthy go to snack?

And...Say something positive. :)

I definitely snack. Since recommitting to healthy eating, I've switched to fruits and maybe once a day a carb or treat (with calorie tracking).

Something positive - I have a few things since I haven't posted in a few days... We got more done this weekend than I imagined - put away all Christmas, started packing, returned library books, deposited all the coins from our Mickey bank, a little decluttering, exercised both days, and stayed on plan! This is the first weekend in the recent past that we didn't eat out for a single meal - good for the waistline and the wallet!

Hello all! It's crunch time at my house--trying to get stuff done before we leave Wed afternoon.

I have about 5 pms in my inbox which I hope to update this evening.

If you all could do me a favor and welcome anyone that is new if I am miss them and direct them to pm their starting weight and goal I would really appreciate it!

I wanted to take a sec to say that I think we have an outstanding group this spring. Everyone seems very supportive and I have really enjoyed reading everyone's answers to the qotd. Thank you all so much for your great participation! A supportive bunch of wishers helped me lose my weight the first time and I think this group will help me get back on track. :) I apologize for not having more time for replies, but things seem to be going really well anyhow! :)

:wave2:

I am exhausted! I think I am having trouble readjusting to the work schedule. Of course it would really help if I went to bed earlier. And my day isn't even close to over, still have to get kids to activities and go to a board meeting.

I gave in to temptation today :worried: Had some of the chocolate from the dreaded treat closet at school. I really need to get someone to shoot rubber bands at me or something every time I am tempted. I have been resisting the big bag of chips that is on the lunch table at all times.

Do you snack or are you a strict 3 meals a day kind of person while working on your goals? What is your healthy go to snack?

Lots of snacks! Some days I think I never really had a meal, but just had all my food in snack portions. I will eat part of breakfast, then finish it an hour or so later. Same with my lunch-- eat the soup at 11 and the salad at 12. It just all depends on the day and how I am feeling.

My go to snacks are yogurt, nuts, cheese, veggies and Swiss Miss Diet Hot Chocolate. Of course today my snack was 2 Resses PB cups and few Dove dark chocolate squares. :headache:

For the positive though I did move around a lot today. I was at my goal of 5000 steps before school even ended and I will probably be closer to 7000 or more by bed time. Trying to convince myself to go walk around the school before my meeting tonight. I have about 20 mins to kill.

Oh, and another positive. Today I wore a sweater that I tried on in November and it was too tight to comfortably and decently wear. It fits great now and I got a lot of compliments on it.

Thanks for the well wishes, much appreciated.:goodvibes

Here is the site that I am pulling from right now to get menu ideas. My youngest dd who is 16 is not liking the change in our menu.;)

Beef stew was OK. We added salt at the table and not in the dish.

I thought the muffins were pretty good. DH did not care for them and my 16yodd thought they were ICK. In all fairness I did overcook them a bit. This was my first time baking with whole wheat flour.

http://www.cch.org/body_chelsea.cfm...Results&d=recipe&w=trinity&cid=96&aid=215&a=1

You might see if this recipe works for you: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2009/11/recipe-for-100-white-whole-wheat-bread.html My Whole Wheat bread HATING family loves it! I made it last night and it is really easy.

Well, better go and find a HEALTHY snack to hold me through my meeting. Going to be a late dinner.

Hello everyone! I'm joining you all finally! My name is Trina and I've been participating in the challenges for about a year or a little more though I took last semester off to concentrate on school. When I first started I was at 160 lbs and having some real body image issues. Basically I hated myself. I worked really hard and got down to 130 lbs, 5 lbs away from my goal.. I'm not back up to 148 lbs. I've made a new commitment to finally getting into fairness program and getting the body I want and know I can achieve, I started running a year ago and love it, but suffered a hip injury and had to take almost 6 months off. I'm hoping to get back into runni g and reach some personal goals, in addition to concentrating on toning, something I tried to do last time but couldn't get In the habit of so I'm hoping to change that. I'm also hoping to set an example for other people in my life. ,my parents are very overweight and diabetic and don't make any effort to change. My boyfriend is on his way to being overweight and I want to motivate him to be healthier.

I am 26, I'm a student at a CT university, my major is history/ secondary education with a minor in Spanish. My specialty is intellectual European history with a focus on World War II and Germany and I hope to go for my phd. Last semester I wrote the biggest paper of my life, a 35 page research paper on the press and the holocaust and its effect on public perception of the holocAust. I received a 100% of it and its one of my proudest achievements. I actually use my academic achievements to influence my weight loss achievements, since 3 years ago I had a 1.3 GPA Had been kicked out of college and was working a dead end retail job. I turned that around, have a 4.0 gpA for 5 semesters and now have a wonderful job as a your guide in a museum. So I see it as an e ample of what you can do if you try, which I need to remember as I commit to a healthier lifestyle

Had a bit of a sick day yesterday and today, but I'm about to shower and do a lengthy workout. Yes I shower before my workout. I just feel icky right now. I have my workouts planned for the rest of the month so I just need to stick with it. That and eating healthy.....I find meal planning tedious and I'm always inning out of ideas of what to eat, especially in a household where no one eats healthy

Welcome back Trina! Thanks for sharing such an inspiring story. I didn't know all that about you. You should be so proud of all the positive changes you've made in your life!

Evening folks! Borrowing a little wi-fi from McD's while I wait for DD to finish at Rainbow Girls. I ended up buying stir-fry for dinner for DD and myself. There is a grocery store near the pool that does it fresh..kind of like a salad bar but they cook it for you. Veggies ( and chicken for DD) and a few noodles cooked with minimal oil, garlic, and sauce on the side. Onions, peppers, bok choy, bean sprouts, scallion, mushrooms, pea-pods, and broccoli. So delicious! I had planned to take mine home to enjoy, but DD couldn't get a ride home from Rainbow, so I was forced to stay in town. I bought a small coffee so I could use the wi-fi.

Glad tomorrow is Tuesday. Not quite as crazy in the morning as swim mornings!
I'm scheduled to work the rest of the week, so I'm glad I got so much done today. But sadly, no scrapping time to be had today.

Excited to see the next episode of BL tonight. And thrilled to pieces that Jillian is back! Anyone else really disappointed with the person who went home first? It made me sad. Won't say any more in case someone hasn't watched yet.

I did manage to get in a very short free weight circuit before hitting the shower...but better than nothing, right?

Not sure when I will be on tomorrow, as I don't know what kind of computer access I will have and then I will get home after school and DS's orthodontist appointment just in time to gobble down dinner, put on my exercise gear, and head out for swim practice and a workout. Then I won't be home from that until 10:15 and have to be up at 4:15 the next morning...so not much computer time! But I'll try! BB when I can! ............P

Mystery machine - of course you are welcome even if you are not actively losing weight. :)

Well let's not go too far with that. My hope is that by counting sat. fat grams, I will lose weight.:thumbsup2

I already feel so much better. I have more energy. It is so weird.

I am also on the American Heart Association site looking at recipes there.

I made an appt for my dh at the Lipid Center for a consultation next week. She is going to give us more help with diet.

Plus he will get a consultation with a dietician when he does cardiac rehab.

I find it really hard to get calories plus eat low fat at the moment. I know I am just starting out with this but since it is for life, I will get there.

Believe me, I am going to be there to take it all in since I am the shopper and cook of the house.

QOTD January 7, 2013

Do you snack or are you a strict 3 meals a day kind of person while working on your goals? What is your healthy go to snack?

And...Say something positive. :)

I try to eat healthy snacks. I tend to plan my meals and eat something healthy in between. Lately it has been clementines. They have been delicious lately.

Positive: I went to Jazzercise tonight. The funny part was I went to a new location and the instructor was a woman from my community. Both of us were surprised to see each other there. Funny how life works.

Busy day today! Lots of people I wanted to respond to but our main computer is broken , so DH borrowed my laptop and I hate quoting on the phone (not even sure I can multiquote from the phone), so I'll just answer the QOTD and hopefully will get time tomorrow to respond more!
I definitely am a snacker. Some of my fave snacks are veggies and hummus, apple and peanut butter and my afternoon snack is usually toast with peanut butter and banana. I find I have a really hard time eating all my daily points so I need snacks to bring my total up.

Positive for today: for dinner the girls had Kraft dinner with veggies (not so good for them but its an occasional treat), and I made myself an avocado tuna sandwich and half a baked sweet potato. This is positive for 2 reasons : I avoided the KD, and I also had foods which I rarely (sweet potato) or never (avocado) eat, which is something I've been trying to do lately (today I bought Swiss chard and spaghetti squash to try this week). Another positive is despite having the night from hell trying to get DD to sleep in her big girl bed, I did my workout at 9:30 tonight. Today was my first day of the turbofire program... It's going to kick my butt!

Hope you all have a great day tomorrow!

Do you snack or are you a strict 3 meals a day kind of person while working on your goals? What is your healthy go to snack?

And...Say something positive. :)

I'm generally a 2 or 3 meal a day plus an evening snack or 2. I try to really limit portions on the snacks, and lately the later I wait, the less I eat.
I eat a lot of chips--they're my favorite thing and my husband won't eat them if they are even a tiny bit stale so I'm usually working on the entire bag myself throughout a few weeks. I had to give up tostitos because I'll only eat chips if they are around 14 chips to 130 calories--costco organic tortilla chips are good.l I'm a triscuit fanatic, I really like that they have those smaller ones out right now. I like triscuits with laughing cow cheese. Sometimes I'll cut up an apple and have that and a little cheese and crackers. I also adore corn nuts. Oh-- I have to eat the chips with cottage cheese-- lowfat. I have a couple drinks a night---I always measure ounces. It's just where I am right now in my life. I'm a vodka 0 calorie tonic kind of girl. Or rum and diet coke---both with fresh lime of course.

+ Had a really excellent workout tonight--my elliptical I like was back in the fitness center after 3 weeks---put my mp3 player on Black eyed peas time of my life on repeat and spent about 45 strong minutes on that then pushed myself to the limit on the weight machines. Really really stretched well too.

I hope it's ok I post this here I just need to "vent" a little. I have been really watching this week what I eat and exercising as planned and I should not be GAINING weight theoretically. But I am. :( I think it's muscle. I have an injury-issue that causes me to lose muscle in my leg quickly and last December and end of November I had to cut way back on my running and this lost a lot of muscle in my leg (just the right). So now that I'm full out able to run and exercise I'm gaining back the muscle and the scale is going up (even if the clothes are looser). This is so frustrating. I really need to break through this mini plateau and I wanted to say thanks for having this thread and participating because it really does help me in times like this.

Planning to drink lots of water and eat very lean and clean today (and aim for exactly the necessary calories). Maybe that will help... How I'm going to do this having dinner w friends of ours at red robin is beyond me. ??? Definitely working out tonight!

QOTD Jan 7: During the week while I'm at work I am strictly 3 meals a day. On the weekends though, I do have a snack or two. My go to healthy snack is red pepper slices with low fat veggie dip.

This weekend I have really fallen off track. Me and my two daughters had some sort of flu bug and when I am sick I don't count calories. On Saturday night we found a tv show on Netfix that we had never seen before Once Upon A Time. We were immediately hooked and got through a few episodes before bedtime. Poor DH came home from work and instead of being greeted with hugs and kisses he got Dad move out of the way and shhhh I can't hear lol.

Still sick on Sunday the three of us spent the entire day, besides bathroom and food breaks, on the couch. We were like zombies zoned into the tv. With the help of Tylenol, ginger ale, and a large Christmas tin filled with caramel popcorn we managed to watch 13 episodes! My kids said it was the best sick day ever lol.

Positive: So now back to reality and eating healthy, and finding Season 2 since its not yet on Netflix! Glad I only fell off track for two days

One week down! What are you most proud of? What have you struggled with?

And...say something positive. :)

****
I wanted to throw a couple of things out for those who are struggling.

Some things to look at:

Are you tracking calories? Are you getting enough for your exercise level? Not enough calories has caused many people to stall out in the past. Are you being honest and maybe getting too many? How are your clothes fitting? Are you seeing results even if you aren't seeing them on the scale? Are you drinking enough liquids? I am terrible at drinking water. And I don't really lose if I don't drink.

Sometimes if I increase my workouts I will also see a gain before I see a loss. I don't think that is all that uncommon.

And last--I am a slower lose. 3-4 pounds a month on a good month. And I am good with that. But I know that can be frustrating. So sometimes the scale just moves slow and that's ok.

Hang in there. The good news is that if one thing doesn't work, there are lots of other things to try. :)

Have a super Tuesday!

How was the Jazzercise? That was something I did a loooong time ago, but really enjoyed it and would love to do it again. But I haven't seen it offered around here.

It is definitely the time of year for citrus. DD and I finished up a 10 pound bag of grapefruit, plus some gf that my cousin gave me from her DD's school fundraiser. I have the last one in my lunch today and look forward to buying another bag at Costco tonight. Even buying them there they are nearly $1 each, but so delicious.

I love good workout songs and I can listen to them repeatedly as well. I need to buy myself an Ipod and program myself a good playlist. As it is, I am tired of the music on my phone and haven't taken the time to change it, so I'm borrowing DD's Ipod Touch.

Have you tried melba toast rounds? They are a good lower fat alternative to chips. I enjoy them with a small shmear of LC cheese and a dollop of mango salsa! I make myself a plate of them sometimes and enjoy them with a big bubbly glass of seltzer.... like my own little cocktail party!

I totally understand how you are feeling..... but just remember our motto here is NEVER GIVE UP!! I have had weeks when I am expecting to see great things on the scale and end up with a maintain or a gain and I have literally stood in the bathroom and cried. But I NEVER gave up. Looser clothes are just as good an indicator as the scale.... unfortunately it is hard to report on a challenge. Just keep in mind that the muscle you are building will help you burn more calories in the long run!

Never eaten at a Red Robin, so I can't be of any help. DS and I walked into one at Patriot Place one time, but I perused the menu and decided it was too much of a minefield of calories and we walked out and went elsewhere.

I suggest a big green salad, lean grilled protein, and dressing on the side (bring your own if you think you won't be able to resist the creamy stuff). Check out the menu online ahead of time and make a solid PLAN and don't even look at the menu when you get there. Start out with a HUGE glass of water, sugar-free iced tea, or seltzer with lemon to take the edge off. And DON'T go starving!

FEEL BETTER! I had that "semi-flu" bug two weeks before Christmas. It really put me out for a few days, but thankfully it only really lasted about 4 solid days (Sun-Wed). It DOES sound like a great sick day! Enjoy your time with your girls.

Netflix tends to be about one season behind, so when you get "hooked" on a show, you usually have to go hunting for the next season before you start watching it on live TV. That happened to DD and myself with Glee. I ended up buying season 3 (?) on DVD (something I NEVER spend money on), but it was well worth it and we have loaned it to several people.

Back OP today, right??:thumbsup2

One week down! What are you most proud of? What have you struggled with?

Struggling with the CARBS! I usually am pretty careful about my carb intake (for those who remember, I devised my own South Beach/WW hybrid diet a few years ago that I tend to stick with). I think that the holiday eating really got my carb cravings revving again. That said, I am keeping on track with calories/Points, so it isn't a total disaster.

Most proud of my exercise routine that is finally back on track. I HATE exercise and really struggle to be consistent with it over the past year, but I'm doing well for now.

And...say something positive. :)

I resisted ALL of the 60% off Christmas stuff at the Christmas Tree Shop yesterday! Trying hard to stay on budget and save for a potential Mother/Daughter/Graduation WW trip this spring/summer! I did manage to spend $40, but that was on grocery items and some mugs for a graduation gift idea that DD and I are planning for her group of school/swim friends. They were the nicest mugs I've been able to find for $1 each.... huge cappucino style mugs in plain white.... just what I've been looking for!

Okay friends! Fourth graders will be in here in about 1 minute! But I got caught up and I can pop on again later this morning while they are in Art! I have some ideas in mind for my coaching week and I am getting excited to share them! Anyone looking for us to talk about anything in particular?

Anyone else saddened by the person who went home last night on BL? I was surprised. BTW, Jillian looked SLAMMIN' at the weigh in!!

TTYL..............P

Good morning! Today is laundry day and figure out what to make day again.

I was able to get the Christmas stuff packed up last night with the help of dd and her friend, since dh can't do anything yet.

I did weigh myself this morning and I am down 3lbs.:cool1:

Wishing everyone well for a good day.

QOTD: I did not have a good week for my first week - but I am very grateful for this thread because it made me get through the week with less damage than it would have been otherwise.

I find that just reading along really helps me to stay motivated. And if I had made a bad choice for lunch it helped me to stay on track with dinner and to make sure to get my exercise in.

The scale was not friendly - it even scared me when yesterday it showed that I was up 3 pounds from my starting weight. But today I was suddenly down 4 pounds from yesterday! So I am finally seeing some progress. Very happy about this. I do know that my weight loss is never linear and that there are ups and downs, still it was a bit scary!

On to week two now and hoping for a better week! For all of us!! :thumbsup2

My must have snack? I am pretty sure I could live off of apples and cheese. I try to have an apple every night before bed. I usually have a small bit of cheese with it too, just to satisfy my taste buds. I've started slicing the apple fairly thin and then I slice a small amount of cheese into tiny little bites. That way, it feels like I'm eating more too! :rotfl:

I've found that I prefer a stronger cheese too...something hard with a good flavor. Smoked Gruyere is my standard, but recently I've found some espresso rind cheese that is phenomenal!

I love fruit and cheese together too. I mentioned earlier my treat of melba toast rounds topped with LC light swiss and a dollop of mango salsa. I also will slice pears thin to top the melba toast/LC cheese combo. They are both so yummy.

Great job bringing some order to the house!

Kids are off to Art. The morning went well, but one boy brought in muffins for his birthday snack. Sounds fine, right? Well....he brought in THREE type of muffins, plus frosting. So EVERY SINGLE CHILD in the class had to be asked what KIND of muffin and did they want frosting! It took 20 minutes to get everyone their snack. Not sure what the Mom was thinking, although it was nice of her to think of nut allergies and send in nut-free muffins. He offered me one and I said no at first, but then he had plenty so I took a banana muffin and will give it to DS later today as a treat.

I'm doing some thinking to get ready for my coaching stint coming up later this week. I have some ideas, but if anyone would like to talk about anything in particular, let me know. I don't mind talking about recipes (low fat, low carb, or just low cal), exercise (although I'm sure that there is plenty of talk about this on the exercise threads), portion control, planning, etc.

Now I'm off to figure out where our BL recipe thread disappeared to!! :confused3 So strange!..............P

I was trying to change my sleeping schedule before school starts up again but that doesn't seem to be happening. I have chronic insomnia so changing my sleep schedule is very difficult.

I am struggling with late night cravings as I always do. Last night after dinner I just wanted to keep eating. I ate like 5 rice cakes and a bunch of cashews. I tried drinking water but my body was craving.

I did do some workout yesterday which was good. I'm in love with Nike Training Club app it's wonderful I actually look forward to the workouts. I do the 15 minute focus workouts which don't seem like very much work but they are really tough. I try to focus on 1 or 2 areas a day but yesterday I did abs, arms, and legs. You really feel the workout and it's stuff I don't normally do.

Today I have a run on the schedule and a 15 minute leg workout. Maybe some yoga if I have time. I also need to go to the grocery store and post office.

I just revived good news while writing this. My research paper I wrote last semester is being nominated for a undergraduate library research award! I'm pretty excited!

QOTD: I am proud that I lost 6lbs last week and that I am still here! I joined another weight loss thread a few weeks ago but got disappointed when I realized my scale was broken and I actually weighed more than I thought so I gave up. But i went out and bought a new scale and joined here. Funny thing is that the amount I was off was the amount that I lost last week, ill take that as a sign I'm in the right place lol.

I have struggled with not eating enough calories. I usually have around 200-400 left after dinner but I don't know what to eat. I don't want to eat things that aren't good for me just to fill up my calories and I don't want to eat larger quantities when I am already full. Guess I have to put more thought into my meals. I am also procrastinating on exercising. I feel so tired all the time for the past couple of months. But I am hopeful that exercising will help give me more energy!!!

Positive: my husband is impressed with how great I've been doing and wants to join me!!! So much easier when there is someone at home supporting you.
