Does anyone know where I can buy inexpensive fish extenders? I need a couple more for a Jan 19th cruise.

Thanks for your help!

They are easy to make. I grabbed a couple of small reusable shopping bags and will connect them by sewing the straps of one to the bottom of the other - making a 2 pocket FE. Total cost = $1.99. (And I can barely sew - got a mini sewing machine from Zulilly for a Christmas craft project.) But you can attach a couple of bags with a simple needle and thread.

I'm sure others will have good ideas as well.

As PP noted, just sew a couple of small canvas bags together. Sometimes Michael's has some cute ones.

:cutie:

I think mine cost maybe $2 plus stuff I had on hand. It was 2 oven mitts from the 99 cent store, yarn (and I'm a knitter so I have SOOOOOOOOOOO much yarn), and a patch someone gave me (it was a vintage patch that I glued onto two pins). Hardest part? Making the pin.

I made my FE out of duct tape and mailing envelopes. If I knew how to post a pic here you could see it. I really like it and it cost very little because I got the duct tape for half off with coupons and the post office had those tyvec envelopes free to take. I am proud of the way it turned out.:thumbsup2

Would love to see it - DD wants to make ours with duct tape.

Here's a thread on how to post pics :) http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2447483&highlight=how+to+post+picture

How many pockets did you make with the duct tape version. We are a family of 4 was thinking of just one pouch

Cute idea!

I bought ours at Ikea. It is a perfect sized, 3 pocket canvas holder. I added a Disney applique to each pocket to personalize it. I found it in the laundry section and think I paid at most $6 for it.

:D It was something simple and I thought if I never took another Disney cruise I had new oven mitts. Plus I am incredibly cheap when I can make something.... IE I was thinking of knitting it instead...

I found inexpensive FEs at the Dollar Store.

Okay. So I'm new at all this. Been on one cruise. What do you do with the fish extenders?

On our first cruise I hung a reusable shopping tote on our fish and used that. It worked well and cost about a dollar.

You don't need a fancy fish extender.

Do you have the sku # I may run to the Ikea in New Haven :)

I did a search for "pocket" on the IKEA website since I was curious as well- this is what I came up with:
pysslingar-wall-pockets__0135141_PE291862_S4.JPG

Article Number:
202.157.64
price $4.99
"most likely" in stock in new haven.

Product dimensions
Width: 10 ¼ "
Height: 26 ¾ "

Hope this size will work- someone who's been around longer might have better feedbak.

I'm tempted to go get one too but it's an hour each way for me and there's no way I'd walk out of IKEA spending only $4.99! Post holiday and pre cruise I'm on a short leash.
Guess I'm back to the crafting table...

We finally gave in and ordered off Etsy. We looked everywhere. That one from Ikea is adorable but we need 5 pockets and we could find nothing and I don't sew. We thought about trying to figure something out with canvas bags but decided by the time we bought the materials and the time it would take me to try to get it done, it was worth just spending the $50. The thing that was holding me back is that it's our first time and my parents are taking me and my two boys and my hubby is staying home to work because he doesn't have the vacation time. If we ever sail DCL again I'm sure he will be with us so it didn't make a lot of sense to buy a personalized FE with my parents names and then me and the boys that we would likely never use again. What I decided to do was not have the family name and individual names embroidered on it so that it would be easier to use again. That's the only way I could justify spending the money.

Is this one small enough I thought the maximum wit was 8 inches and this is wider ... if that size does work it looks perfect ! Can someone comment?
