Jambo - Nice pics Kim - I memba them!!! LOL - I can't believe they are 5 years old either!!! Where does the time go?? -- I need to try and locate some of my AKL / Kidani Christmas pics and post them!!



I just want to wish everyone who has upcoming trips a WONDERFUL time - we have 48 days left till we do our split at BLT/Kidani and can hardly wait!! Also, if I don't get back over to this thread beforehand - MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my Jambo Peeps!! (I talk way too much - mostly off topic, so, I don't post on this thread much anymore............ )

I have several questions:

I will be staying at AKL CL standard from 8 January to 15 January 2013 (just booked it today). I am taking my younger sister who is on peritoneal dialysis. She has to do the dialysis in the room several times a day.

Is there a gentle way to request a room convenient to elevators, nice view of animals etc? Which room would this be and who do I request it through? What does IPO stand for??

I believe IPO stands for Itinerary Planning Office.

They should be sending you a contact form with all types of questions & information. I would suggest noting that you need a room near the elevators for medical reasons & then call a day or two later to follow up.

If you booked via a Travel Agent, I would also have them note it on your reservation. It doesn't hurt to cover all your bases.

From what I understand all the CL rooms have a savannah view. So as long as the animals are out & about you should be able to see them.

Those pictures make me want to go back and I just got home 2 days ago!!!

AKV-Jambo was amazing as usual. The staff was excellent and I enjoyed my evenings sitting outside by the fire (drinking beer smuggled in my disney refillable mug )

The parks were just as magical. The first few days we had little to no waits on attractions, but they grew and were getting pretty bad by our last day.

My only disappointment was my savanna view. We overlooked the sunset savanna. We were there 5 days and only saw animals outside our balcony once. If this were my first time with a savanna view, I would have been much more annoyed. However, having had that view several times, I know it was just a fluke. Hopefully, I get to see more in October when I stay at Kidani.

AKL has always been my favorite resort, and I'm so excited that I'm going to be staying there in May for my birthday! Yeah!! Gonna splurge, since it'll probably be the only deluxe trip in a while!

I have a question though, not sure if anyone has encountered this but just thought I'd ask. On the new discount it only lists the standard rooms as being available for the discounts, and I was planning to stay in a Savannah room (gotta go big right! LOL!). If I book a Standard room with the discount and then upgrade to a Savannah room at a later date, would I have to pay the difference between the rack rate and the savannah room (so still discounted), or the discounted room and the savannah room (which would be no discount). I'm trying to cheat the system, just curious.

I also got a pin code, but it doesn't specify what room or anything, so I could potential use that! LOL!

1. Are the appetizers/evening offerings enough for a light dinner?

2. How is the breakfast?

3. What special events can we sign up for? Safaris??

We got a PIN a few months ago & by using it were able to change to club level @ AKL from a regular room at the Contemporary & knock several hundred dollars off the price, so I would say call & ask.

Honestly, with so many options & things to consider, I tend to use a WDW TA (Travel Agent) for booking our trips. I let her do the math & all the hard work...I just can't get my head around & keep straight all the various room types, options & discounts that come & go & can be applied sometimes.
Best of all, when new deals come out she usually knows about it before I do & had checked if it saves us or not.

If you want to PM me I'd be happy to give you our TA's name & #. But otherwise just google for "WDW Travel" and you'll find several companies that do that.

DEFINITELY call and ask about the pin code. Usually they're better than the public discounts!!! Also make sure to ask for the price for savanna view and the price for club. Sometimes because of how they apply the discounts club level is only slightly more expensive (or sometimes actually cheaper on a fluke), and it includes the Savanna view. Good luck.

I haven't stayed AKL club yet (will this April), but in general no, you can not make a dinner out of the appetizers, but yes, you can make a decent breakfast out of it. The big special event is the sunrise safari, you have to pay for it, but everyone says it is excellent. We have ours booked. It is only available Sunday and Thursday mornings though. Enjoy!

...the SS is really awesome! And, breakfast at Tusker House was amazing, although I'm not sure if they moved it to another location or not...
