Back to the Med Greece/Turkey in 2013! Complete!

oh thank you so much! They all look so exciting, it will be hard to choose which ones to go one? When can we actually start booking the excursions? My cruise is in June.

It depends...are you a new DCL cruiser? If so, then 75 days out, which is sometime in April, I think. If I remember correctly, I can book excursions on March 17th for the June 15th cruise (silver CC member and 90 days out).

Where did you decide to stay in Barcelona? I thought I had read through this whole thread but I must have missed something

However I may be able tack you on me since I can book at 105 days out.

I booked an apartment thru this site:

http://www.aspasios.com/barcelona

I didn't change it after I booked the flights. We decided that on the off chance that we couldn't stand it we had a place to nap. We fly in about 7am, so a place to put luggage is good, too. And, I got a good rate....!!!! Probably their error, but have emails to prove it!

No one? No one guessed? Sigh, ok, I'll give....yes, I was at a Rick Steves lecture....on Italy! It was awesome! But as I'd made Ashleigh sit thru a class before that, we only stayed for about 2/3'ds of his lecture as she was soooooo done.

The first class was called "packing light and right". I giggle when I say this. Refer to previous discussions of clothing/outfit preparation. This woman traveled 3+ weeks with a handbag and a carry-on size suitcase. Ain't happening here, not intentionally anyway. But, she was informative and for those of you interested, they will be posting the travel festival videos on You Tube soon (according to them...not there as of right now).

I got some literature from the festival that I have yet to peruse. It was little books that they give as supplements for their tours. I will report back if it is anything interesting...

I was looking at my siggie and realizing that we're just over 7 months out! WOOT! Remember when I started this at the 499 day mark?

For those of you interested in the packing video. I am not sure they have EVER posted the most recent one but it's basically the EXACT same talk that was given in April Just search YouTube "rick steves travel festival"

Did anyone else who has already booked a Rome in limo reservation get the email about the prepayment discount? Thoughts?

Personally, I'd love to get it paid and out of the way. In Rome, it would shave off $85 off the total bill and $43 off Pisa/Lucca (at today's conversion rates). I loathe coming home to a really big credit card bill.

Kim, there won't be a credit card bill. He wants cash. Besides it would only save $15 pp to tie up our $ now.

And when we get to Europe it'll be my CC that the $ is withdrawn from. Hence the bill upon our return.

yep I think I will pay it now to get it out of the way thats more money for wine!! :rolleyes1:coffee:

Also, what if we pay now and he doesn't show? You recall my experience with international cc transactions...

You may have extra money for wine, but is it worth the risk to pay for the tour in advance of paying off the cruise. What happens if something happens and you don't go? Not unheard of to lose your job or someone to get ill...things happen. When I used this company last time, we paid them in cash, which is what they want this time to get the discount. The other alternative is to not pay them a fee to use a credit card, so then what are you really saving?

It's hell to get money back or fight an international cc transaction should you get screwed...I would be careful...take it from one who knows how it feels

Yeah. No one saw that coming....

What if caterpillars had bee bee guns? What if you had the cash and you got mugged? What if.....

Lots of things to consider. But, as I said, I like to have stuff paid up front. That's just me.

What I'm wondering is if they'll accept partial payment up front. I really don't want to travel with that much cash in my pocket, so I wonder if I contact them in May if they'd let me pay a portion? hm, I think I'll email and find out...

I did not think about drawing cash from the CC. not a bad Idea. the savings was not what enticed me ... it was the paying for it before the cruise ... I paid the cruise and airfare off pretty quickly we dont like bills lingering around. With that being said all your points are valid ... but this is also a reputable company with many reviews on many sites.... either way now I have to rethink this ....:confused3
