Foods I will not eat based on their names

This is an odd thread. There is nothing I wouldn't eat because of the name. I choose what I eat based on a combination of what I like and its nutritional value. I don't care at all what the name of it is.

Conversely there are somethings I wouldn't eat no matter what it was called.

I can't imagine not trying something just because it has a weird name. I mean really, who cares what something is called? I get a 3-year-old doing that, but not a grown man or woman.

Weird to me too.

I get not eating blood pudding (or whatever) because you don't like what is in, but just because it is called "blood pudding". I don't care for blood pudding (I've tried it) and I love chicken. I'd still love (and not love) the same actual foods even if their names were switched.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but when I was in my late teens I visited England with my family. Several times we ordered tea and scones, trying to be very English. Each time the waitress would ask if we wanted clotted cream to go with it. Every time we would shudder and say "No, thank you."

Clotted cream. Blech. We had never had it, but thought it sounded like milk that had curdled and gone bad. No way, jose.

Then on the airplane ride home we were given a little container of clotted cream with the in-flight snack. We got brave and all tried some. Oh my goodness! :lmao: Delicious! I can't believe we had all passed up what was pretty close to whipping cream. Sigh. I can't believe no one in the States manufactures such goodness.

That made me smile ::yes:: Glad you enjoyed it

I`ve never thought about the name "clotted" cream as putting people off. I only try and eat it as a treat......but they have it close to the milk in the supermarkets, so it kinda winks at you to entice you to buy it.........or is that just me

It is sinfully delicious :thumbsup2

Rocky Road ice cream
Foie Gras (tried it at V&A's before I knew what it was!)
Sweet Breads (sounds great, but is animal entrails)

Clotted cream is another one that the name turns my stomach.

And Muscle Milk...

The other day someone on here said they were using pet milk in a recipe. I gagged.

Yes, names can trigger my gag reflex, which is why I don't try some things (tripe, for one! But that one is because I know what it is...muscle milk I cannot get over...I gag each time I walk by the huge packs at Costco...blech)

I LOVE Muscle Milk! The bottled kind. I tried it because they sponsor an American LeMans Series car. Guess advertising works!

Add me to the list of people who think it is silly reject something because of its name. I have never heard of such a thing.

....I think 'blood ANYTHING' pretty much sums it up for me....oh, and tongue....EWWWWW!!!

Probably before your time, but I remember an episode of Sanford & Son where they served Fred sangria, then told him it translated to "blood" LOL.

Julio invited them out to dinner. Fred spit it out upon hearing the translation. Julio explained it was just because of the color. Fred was relieved and said, "Oh, I was afraid it was something left over from the bullfights". LOL
