Kitchen Aid box needed

Ok, good. I'm not the first person to read the OP and think, well a trip to Vegas is nice, especially since they haven't been on a vacation, but I'd be a bit ticked. I adore my Kitchen-Aid. Last year my mom decided she wanted the one she left at the house 3 years prior and never asked for in that time back, and my wonderful boyfriend told me "fine, if she wants it back so badly all of a sudden give it to her, but I'm getting you an even better model since you actually use yours." I'd have been so upset to open the box, get all excited about my new mixer, and then open the box to take it out and try it only for the box to contain something else (even if it was a trip)

Just wanted to say that your BF sounds like a keeper. What a sweet, wonderful thing to do!

As everyone else already stated, do not use a KitchenAid Mixer box unless he is really going to purchase a mixer for her! It would be different if she was the type that hates getting appliances/kitchen items for gifts...but clearly she would love a KitchenAid mixer so it would be cruel to see her so excited to see the mixer box until she opens it and finds a piece of paper that says "just kidding, no mixer for you! We're going on a trip instead".

I would actually be very upset and hurt if that was the one item I asked for and was pranked like that. A trip is great and all, but it is here and gone in a week or less -- the mixer would last a lifetime. I would suggest either getting the mixer plus the trip, the mixer only, or just the trip. It's fine to prank her...just not with the mixer box. Maybe slip the plane tickets or note with a stupid gift, like a Snuggie as someone mentioned.

I really want a kitchenaid mixer too! A trip to vegas? Not so much! I will be going a few times next year with work so it wouldn't be such a thrill. I agree with another pp that said maybe get the mixer also.

Costco has the 4.5 qt size on sale for $199. Great deal.

I don't know where to tell you to get a box but he can always buy one, take out the mixer and put the surprise in it.
He can also give her the mixer after she opens the real surprise?

This. That way there is no disappointment.

I'm sure she'd be thrilled with a trip to Vegas but if she really wants a mixer, she'll be sad to see the box and think she's received one and she won't. I'd suggest a different box. But that's coming from someone who really wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer.

I'll add to the chorus of people saying this (except that before I had my mixer I would have much preferred to get the mixer than the trip, so I would not have been "thrilled" :rotfl:--and it was 16 years before we finally got a kid free trip!).

Maybe you can show your coworker this thread if he still thinks using a kitchen aid box is a good idea.

coming from someone who has an 8 x 10 color photo posted on my fridge, dead center, of the Kitchen Aid of my dreams (5 quart with glass bowl in "Sugar Pearl")

i would be royally PISSED if my DH gave me just the box!!!!

wouldn't matter if there were a "WE'RE GOING TO VEGAS AND HAWAII AND VERSAILLES!!!!!" card inside

because that mixer had BETTER be in the house somewhere....

the saying "h*ll knows no fury like a woman scorned"????

same holds true for pretending with the Sugar Pearl.

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one who thought the trick box was mean! I thought I might get raked over the coals for being no fun or something. I just remember that before I got my mixer, I really, really wanted one (there was probably many a thread about it back in the day.)

I, too, love my mixer. I know love is a strong word but I'm thinking that it is appropriate. :)

My 3 loves- family, friends and my Kitchen Aid

You guys are making me envious for the mixer!!!!:lmao: 199 at Costco?:rolleyes1

 Mixer love,

I remember when I went and picked mine out. It took me a long time to decide between white and biscuit.:laughing:

Finally, the lady in the store said, "Well, they aren't much different and will be in the cabinet anyway."
:headache: :sad2: No, no, I said. This baby sitting out on my counter like an object of art!

Many years later, I still like looking at it! I ended up choosing biscuit. Cross between white and cream. But these days, there are so many, many colors that it'd take me a week! :rotfl:

I have to agree with the majority, do NOT let him put the tickets in a box of something that the wife actually really wants. It won't matter if the gift inside is good (tickets to Vegas), she will be TICKED that it's not a Kitchen Aid! Kitchen Aids are awesome and expensive. It would be cruel.

Put the tickets in a box of something silly and unappealing.

This is kinda what I was thinking. As awesome as a vacation is, it is kinda mean to trick her. I would be a little up-set at my husband if he did that.

Although, I did see these cute joke boxes at Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday.
They were these exact boxes but they were only $5 at BBB. I almost got the slippers one for a present for my husband but I was too cheap to pay $5, lol.

Seriously? I have wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer for 10 years, and if my DH did that to me, I would forget all about that mixer and be jumping for joy. I see a bunch of you agree, that is just BIZAAR to me. I think if a husband did this for a wife and she was ticked, I would take back the trip and everything and give her coal, and I am the wife.

See I agree with most other posters. My husband recently surprised me with a mixer plus pasta attachments. I was over the moon. Then he told me about our trip to Vegas for our anniversary. I don't really care for Vegas, so I said sounds wonderful- let me know what the details are and I will pack accordingly. Vegas doesn't really do it for me, but Disney is another story.

I think its pretty mean to trick someone into thinking you are giving them a gift you know they really want when you have no intention of giving it to them. Its fine that she doesn't get the mixer, and its even fine if you want to have some fun and play a trick. I think its cruel to let her believe she is getting a coveted mixer, only to say nope sorry, but hey don't be disappointed it is a trip to Vegas.
I'm the wife, and I'd be ticked and my dh could give me coal, and take someone else to Vegas and I'd go out and get my Kitchenaid myself ;)Of course my dh would know better, I wouldn't want to go to Vegas anyway

Word for word. :thumbsup2

Giving her the trip is good, just maybe not in that box. Then she would not feel disappointed.

People, calm down.

We are talking about a box for a counter top kitchen appliance.

It's not a case of a wife telling her husband she's pregnant and then saying "Just kidding, we're getting a hamster".

It's a freeking trip to Vegas in an appliance box.

This place gets stranger every.single.day.

If I wanted an iPod and my wife gave me a trip to Vegas in an iPod box, which of these 2 things would you think more likely to happen:

1) I open the box, look suprised and say "You really got me there"

OR

2) Open the box, see it's not an iPod, run from the room, go sit in the backyard and plan her grisly murder.

Pick one.

It's quite a leap to go from disappointed to plotting a grisly murder, don't you think? :rotfl:

I'm another who thinks it probably wouldn't be a great idea to use a Kitchen Aid box unless you are actually giving her the Kitchen Aid. And I'm one who would be much more excited about a trip to Vegas than a mixer. But I think if someone really wants something, it would probably cause at least a little bit of momentary disappointment to think you are getting the thing you want and then find out you aren't actually getting it after all. Maybe she would be even more excited about the trip than she would be about the mixer, but she's still likely to have that moment of disappointment when she thinks she is getting the mixer and then doesn't, and I just don't understand why someone would intentionally want to cause that on Christmas. I get the idea of wanting to really throw her off and surprise her with a different box, but I think I prank box of some kind would be a much better choice.

Seriously?

I think that for the past 55 years I have been severely underestimating the importance of Christmas gifts.

Man, if giving someone an all expense trip to Vegas over a mixer is going to push them over the edge, I guess I agree.

As a matter of fact, I'd probably recommend that these people don't even wrap their gifts.

perhaps he should just go ahead and put those vegas tix in the genuine Kitchen Aid box and shout "surprise!"

BUT he should ALSO have the actual mixer in, say, the closet as the rest of the surprise....

that way it's a win/win!

oh, have an update here:

went to bedbath earlier with DH to visit my coveted Kitchen Aid 5 quart (in "Sugar Pearl")

he said "No"....

instead, he bought me the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 series 6 quart in "Pearl Metallic"!! - and it had a $50 rebate!

woo hoo! :cloud9:

christmas came early!!!! :santa:

(somewhere, a pig is flying...) ;)
