Welcome to cattle encounters of the 4th diMOOnsion!

Ughhhh he got picked for the jury but the judge said there is absolutely no way it will go past Fri. Bah humbug

Oh man, I will keep my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and quickly with the case. But at least the judge is aware that he is leaving on vacation on Saturday, right? So it was his (the judge's) decision to take that chance?

Woo! That's good.

i got picked for a jury when I was 19. Guess the lawyers thought I'd be a big softie in a wrongful death suit because they exercised their right to remove me and two other girls my age. I was soooo disappointed!

Come hang out with me. I get picked all the time. I have been on about 6 or 7 cases now, with most of them being DUI (I guess I must look like someone who would by symathetic to people driving drunk :confused3)

Opps on being gender specific. LOL - I should know better considering my field is also stereotypically male (but my company is evening the playing field..we have almost as many women as men in my department now).

What's the criteria? Registering to vote? Being a certain age?

I thought I heard here in CA it is based on your DMV registration. It used to be based on voter registration but people just stopped registering to vote (not sure if that is really true, but that is the rumor).

We have a one day or one trial system now (as opposed to the two weeks that they used to require) so it is really easy. You are on call in for a week and if they never ask you to report, you are done. If you do have to report, you go for one day and if not put on a case, you are done. If you do get put on a case, you are done at the conclusion of the case (no matter the length).

That is much better than when we used to have to report for a full two weeks and even if we got on a case, if it was less than two weeks we would be stuck back in the juror room and could get called again.

But in order to move to the one day/one trial system, they needed a bigger pool of people. So that is where the DMV registration came in.

In FL they pool from everyone who has a license

ETA: If you get called it's for a Monday. You then call Sunday night to see if they still need you. If so, you go Monday and you may or may not be called/used for a trial. If not, you are done. If so, you just complete the trial and are done. My boss's son got called yesterday too and put on a trial for 1:30pm today. When he got there, the guy had settled and he was sent home. He was peeved he drove all that way...

That's how it's done in MA too. I think jury comes from voting, but I'm not sure. I just know as soon as I registered to vote I got called and had to defer as I was in college.

fly by just to let you all that I am alive and tired, and feet hurting... Been working 12 hours a day at this conference and my feet are killing me. Been living on Tylenol lately. Hopefully everything will be back to normal on Monday!

Maybe it will cut it short if they go a little longer.
