If you are hosting! How much do you spend for thanksgiving day groceries?

Well...just came from the supermarket and just spent a fortune...$187 after spending $130 yesterday at BJ's!!!! And that is with people bringing things! Yikes.

Granted..it is for about 28 people along with overnight guests who will be here for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a couple days.

One good thing is that I got my 25lb fresh turkey for .79 a lb...which was half what theother market nearby wanted. I also got a turkey breast and a ham to freeze for another day.

So..what is your total? I know mine is probably crazy!

Only immediate family (7 ppl) and I think I spent about $50 which included a free rewards card Turkey.

Since it's just me (DBF is going to his aunts, who has a strict no Significant others policy) I'm making a lasagne, and freezing the left overs/taking some to work on Black Friday to help out the other poor souls who can't go home (but I don't know them well enough to have them at my home). So far my cost is $35, and I know I'll have leftovers

I am only feeding 7 but I purchased enough to feed more. We will have left overs.

It cost me $32.33 at one store and $12.73 at the other store. So around $46.00 for I would estimate 12-14 people.

Its just me and the hubby, so a 12 lb turkey was $11, I already had most of the vegetables, gravy, stuffing, etc. I bought the stuff to make pumpkin pies, the rolls, and a few other things..so I would say about $20 altogether. And that will provide leftovers for a few days!

Last year I think we spent ~$200 for 10 people but that included a few bottles of wine.

That seems pretty cheap to me.

Our parties, including alcohol, cost about $15/person. We do have left overs.

We had 8 guests over for a past weekend. Some of them were teen boys. The food bill was $300 excluding the four pizzas we ordered. The house was barren when they left.

Around $175 for 10-12 guests. I should probably consider a restaurant and skip the cooking. I don't enjoy it anymore.

I spent around $50 not including liquor which is yet to be bought. And I still have another couple of things to get but dh just called and said he got a Thanksgiving gift card from work *$25 big woop- but it should cover the extras plus some more. I think it was suppose to be a turkey card- cover the cost of the turkey kind of thing- but we got ours for free- actually 2 free since my dad got one too and he doesn't cook.

That's including the cost of the Appetizers(sausage wonton things that I make and chips and dip - debating adding chicken and bacon things- but I think that will be too much pre-food)

Rolls- that I have to make thinking honey rolls.

Ilovemk76...thank you for posting! You made me feel a "little" better. LOL! The 27 people includes 5 teenage boys who EAT! By Saturday, I will be at the market again.

I wish my bill was $30! But the turkey by itself was $20 so that is impossible..and no stores here do the free turkey thing.

But..it will be worth EVERY penny to have our entire family here to celebrate!

Can't wait for dinner now!

I am hosting, and about 16 people are attending. Here's my approximations, but bear in mind that some things are being contributed by others...

22 lb Turkey (Butterball) = $25

10 lb bag Sweet Potatoes (Costco) = $7 (there will be too much for one meal)

20 lb bag white potatoes (Costco) = $7 (there will be too much for one meal)

Other ingredients for Sweet Potato casserole (eggs, half-and-half, seasonings, butter, brown sugar, pecans = about $8 (but some of these are things I already have on hand or will be used in other dishes)

Other ingredients for Pioneer Woman's mashed potato recipe (milk, butter, cream cheese, seasonings) = about $3 (but some of these are things I already have on hand or will be used in other dishes)

Dressing (Breads, sausage, veggies, chicken broth, butter, herbs) = about $10 (but some of these are things I already have on hand or will be used in other dishes)

Olives, pickles, etc = $5 (have most of this on hand already)

Cranberry sauce (canned) = $2

Juices to re-create AKL's Frunch recipe = $8

Extra organic chicken broth for gravy, etc = $9

Squash = free, from MIL's garden

Green beans = Free, from SIL's garden

Homemade rolls and butter = Free, SIL is providing

Apple, pumpkin, and chocolate pies = Free, SIL and MIL are providing

Coffee, coffee creamers, tea = Free, already have these on hand for daily use

So, grand total: About $85, or about $5.30 a person.

We are having aproximately 20 people, (5 families). They are bringing the potatoes and some other stuff. I got the turkey for half with the savings card.

I will spend approximately $500.00, if not more when you factor in the alcohol, drinks, appetizers, etc. (Turkey is brined in a few quarts of brown beer plus we are wine snobs)

I just got back from the grocery store and spent almost $40.00 on just apples (pies, stuffing, Brussels sprouts.)

DH's family doesn't drink alcohol - complete tee-totalers. That's one reason I can get away with a cheaper budget.

And if DH and I need a mixed drink after the family has gone home we have a well-stocked liquor cabinet at home already.
