Boma or Ohanas?

For our first night I'm trying to decide where to eat...

we'll be at the poly beach watching wishes at 8 and both restaurants have a 9:00 reservation open.

I have ADR for Ohana right now, but recent reviews have me rethinking that.

Boma seems like an amazing place to eat and to be at AKL at night seems like it would be really cool.

So, which one and why?

Can I get to AKL from POLY beach in 40 minutes & what's the fastest way?

I would stick with O'hana's. You're right there and if you have to wait for a bus you won't make it. I haven't been to O'hana in a couple of years but we always had good experiences there. We ate at Boma once and had lousy service and just weren't impressed.

Boma is our favorite for the food, but I would go with 'Ohana because of your plan to watch Wishes first.

I've done both. LOVE O'hana (although many rave abut Boma) Just went there last week.

Boma was not a good experience for us but I think it was a one-off and would def try it again.

But after we atea t O'hana, it might now be a regualar ADR for our trips!
and of course, you're 2 minutes away from the magic Kingdom.

I think the food at ohana is mediocre at best. i dont understand the hype at all. id go with boma.

Agreed. 'Ohana has bad food and a chaotic, rushed atmosphere. Boma food is good, especially the soups and the meats. AKL is really cool to check out too.

For me it is a decision between better food (Boma) and convenience (Ohana). Boma is one of our favorite dinner buffets at WDW and definitely worth a visit. The only reason why I would choose Ohana is because you will already be at the Poly for Wishes. There is no bus directly from the Poly to AKL. If you decide to go to Boma (which I would), I would highly suggest just taking a taxi. That way you wouldn't have to worry about just missing a bus and therefore missing your ADR. :goodvibes

Wow...I a really surprised to see these negative reviews for O'hana. We had reservations amd waited about 10 minutes before we were seated. When we got to our table, we had bread immediately and were eating within 15 minutes. Maybe our experience was in the minority but we found the food and exerience to be outstanding.

Almost word for word what I was going to say. And I think that a taxi is the ONLY way to get to Boma with the time constraints that you will have.

We love Ohana & as you are already at the Poly that would work perfectly.

We tried Boma once as the reviews were really good. We found it ok & it took a long time by bus transportation to finally get there. We have no desire to go there again.

Ohana is our repeat every single trip meal & it is always great.

Ohana is my must do every trip! It depends too Ohano is sit down table service and Boma is buffet. With kids sit down is much nicer for us :)

That is part of the problem. It is so rushed.

putting the rushed feeling aside (totally agree with you thou), if we're just talking about the food at ohana, its disappointing. Dry noodles and potstickers, slimy wings, poor quality of beef, gross pork chops...sauce was so gross. way too sweet. chicken was good thou. so was the salad, bread, and dessert.

I would also recommend a taxi to boma after watching wishes. so much faster.

For those commenting on being rushed at Ohana I think it depends on the time of night we experienced this once and asked our waiter to slow it down and he did with no problem we are slow eaters and did not want the next course getting cold.

Both restaurants are very good and are 2 of our *must do* places to go on each trip, but as others have said, you would be better to go with 'Ohana because you would not have time to make it to Boma by 9pm.

'Ohana does have a lot of negative reviews, but we have never had a meal there that we did not enjoy. We love it, and their dessert is so yummy! It is *very* hard to get ressies there, so there must be a lot of people that feel the same way we do! :)

We have never felt rushed as others have stated, but if we ever were, we would just ask them to slow down - we are slow eaters, and like to enjoy our food, not shove it in and get out! We've also asked for our meats the way we like them, so never have dried out meat.

Both Boma and 'Ohana get many positive and negative reviews. Hmmmm, I think it has something to do with different people having different tastes.

We love both, so would stick with 'Ohana for the convenience.

'Ohana, for sure!

Been to Boma about 3 times - it's my dad's favorite (I think he would drive from Maine just to eat there) but our LEAST favorite! :crazy2:

If I never go again, it'll be too soon. :rotfl2: ;)

We have always love 'Ohana but it hasn't been as great as I remembered the last couple of trips. We tried Boma for the first time in June and loved it! If this is the only chance you will have to go to Boma then I say go. It is fun at night and you will likely see Wishes again another time during the trip. If you can squeeze Boma in another time, then go with 'Ohana for the obvious convenience.
