SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

I know that SOG doesn't get to catch the "Magical Express" at Orlando International, so I am wondering what is the cheapest way from getting to SOG from the airport.

Does anyone know how much a taxi costs? Or is it a cheaper way to rent a shuttle/town car from the SOG website.

Thanks in advance for any help!! :)

We got town car service thru FL Tours. And will go with them again in the future.

We've used Tiffany Towncar in the past. Loved them. This year we found a cheap car rental for the week and did that instead.

We are planning on going next September, probably towards the end of the month so we can get the Halloween decorations and party. Did you find the crowds higher because of the free meal plans? We are trying to avoid the crowds if at all possible.

Thanks!!!! :cool1:

We've been several times in Sept, we found that early to mid Sept is best, lower crowds. The closer you get to Food and Wine opening, it gets a bit more crowded and a lot of World Showcase is closed off behind fencing preparing for F&W, and it makes the path more narrow.

We have used the shuttle/town car mentioned on the SOG website 4 different times. Never had a problem - will be using it again next month.

Hi Everyone! We are very excited to stay at SOG at the end of January. We stayed one night in Oct to attend the Halloween Party and really liked the hotel. I have a question. We will be going to disney from Jan 29-Feb 3. I currently have the January Special booked for our first three nights (you get breakfast and pay $120 a night). However, we pay full price the last two nights. They came out with a special for Feb 1 and Feb 2 that would cover our last two nights. It would save us about $60 to add this special. However, when I called reservations, they won't let you have two specials at once. It kind of stinks since the dates we picked overlap two different specials. Do you think it would be worth it to shorten my original reservation for 3 nights and then make another reservation with the new special the last two nights? Do you think this is abusing their policy? I don't want to do anything illegal but it seems crappy most people there the last two night we are there will get a special and we won't. I know this might mean we would have to change rooms but I hope they would try to keep us in same room. Has anyone tried this? Just curious on your thoughts. Thanks!!!

When we booked, there were 2 different specials, so they let me split it into 2 different reservations. If it will save you money, I say go for it. BTW, they were the ones to suggest splitting the reservations to get the special.

Thanks for the reply! I am glad they suggested that. When I first called to book the January special, the agent I got said she couldn't give me the January special because there was a 4 night minimum. We are staying 5 nights, but not 4 during the special. I called back and got someone else who helped me and said there was no minimum and she could give me the January special for the 3 nights we qualify and we would pay full rate the last two. When I saw the February special today, I called back and asked if I could get the deal the last two days. They said no. So I asked if I could split the reservation and she said no again. I didn't push it, but maybe I should call and see if I can get someone else that might be of more help. So frustrating! Thanks again.

We went in October. I'm not sure what special you are talking about. Our stay was for 3nights. When I booked the person said we can book a special with the breakfast and dinner. I paid the price plus the special they were having at the time. Which would entitle us to have ( I can't think but an x amount of breakfasts and x amour of dinners). When we checked in the lady at the desk only gave us a card for 1 each. In the end we got it figured out but they said the deal should have been only booked for a 4 night stay. Because we paid the extra they did give us the amount we were entitled. Just remember what ever you paid for when you book is what you should get.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I called this morning. The agent told me that she couldn't break my reservation into two separate ones but she would be happy to shortened my original reservation to three nights so I can get the first special for 3 nights and then I went online and booked the last two nights with the discounted room rate. So, hopefully it will all work out. The first three nights special (it is just a breakfast with the room rate) says there is no minimum and it is listed on my reservation. The last two nights are just a set discounted rate which is reflected in my last reservation. So, hopefully we won't have to change rooms, but it saves us around $75 so I guess it is worth a little inconvience. If it was $30 or less I probably wouldn't worry about it.

Great!! I am going to make our reservations with them later this week! So glad to hear that you had good luck with them. :)

We went Sept 14-21. I think part of it may have been because all I've ever heard is how low the crowds are in Sept, but I was really shocked at how busy it was. The mornings were great, but the afternoons and evenings were busy. I think because the MK closes early on some nights for MNSSHP, that makes the non-party nights *really* busy. We spent our last night, a Thursday, at the MK and it was wall-to-wall people from behind the castle to the train station. I think planning better around the parties would have helped us out. The weather was hot during the day, great at night, and it rained every day for a bit (had several hours of rain two of the days). The Halloween party was a lot of fun, and the decorations very cute. I'd still recommend Sept., especially if you've never been there in the fall.

:wave2: I'm headed for my first ever WDW and SOG trip in less than a month! I'm excited but feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the planning required on such short notice - we decided to go just last weekend and made the reservations and got tickets at our ITT office the very same day!

I go to DL often since we live so close, but my travel companions (my parents) have never been to either!

We are only going to be there for 5 nights, so I'm trying to plan ahead in order to do as much as possible. We want to go to both WTW and Universal so that's quite a tall order!

Any tips on how to make that manageable, if that's even possible, are greatly appreciated.

You should get an email from SOG a couple of weeks before you go - you can pre-order your tickets then and schedule the shuttle to Universal also.

We have looked at the crowd calendars for the days we will be there & have chosen which parks we're doing on which days. We are not making any advance dinner/lunch reservations....just planning to stop & eat when we're hungry.

Maybe make a list of attractions that are 'must-sees' for your group & beyond that just enjoy & take it all in. :)

I can't wait to finally be able to see the weather forecast for our week there - packing for chilly mornings and evenings AND pleasant days will be tricky!!

I am curious if there have been any updates about the upgrades to the pools? I have not seen anything lately about them and I know that the statement about the upgrades on the SOG website is no longer there. Thanks so much.

Ok, so I'm not sure if this has been asked, but like I've said before my hubby and I are going to SOG for a pre-deployment getaway. He told me tonight that he booked the 5-night "Sunrise Package". I read that it included breakfast, but my question is what breakfast? The buffet or is it only so much toward breakfast? The website is VERY unclear about this and I just want to make sure, so we know what to expect when we get there. TIA!! :)

It does include the entire breakfast. It is a buffet. We were just there in October the food is pretty good. Enjoy
