Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

All I can say is wow, have people forgotten how Disney has operated since opening day at Disneyland. Disney has had sponsors for shops since day one. That's all that's happened here. They have a sponsor for the bakery. Sure it will sell some Starbucks goods but the DCA model shows that it will sell lots of Disney products.

As for theming, it's been announced that the shop will be appropriately themed to fit in to Main Street and the staff will wear period costume. There is an example basically across the street, Casey's Corner sponsored by Coke and everything there fits into Main Street.

Relax folks, it's just about adding a sponsor and they've done that for ever.

The article I read states that the bakery will close and reopen as a Starbucks with their pastries. There is no mention if those things being sold in addition to the bakery items already available leading me to believe they have once again sold out in an effort to save a buck and it is just really sad that they chose to do it on Main St.

Have you seen the SB at DLC? The top shelf has SB pastries, the other 3 or 4 are Disney goodies. Don't see why it won't be the same at WDW

I don't get the fuss. I don't think that the current bakery is really all that good but regardless I don't see where it says that the same bakery items won't still be offered. I see this as a potential win-win.

This is not like a historical corporate sponsorship like Carnation Cafe ...[t]his change sounds more like when a Starbucks comes into town and the independent local family bakery that has been around for years closes as a result.
This is illogical. Starbuck's coming in is EXACTLY the same as Carnation running the location, or Edy's running the ice cream shop. Except perhaps you have a 'hate on' for Starbucks whereas you possess no ill-will toward Carnation.

The message Disney is sending is loud and clear. They do not care a single bean about it's "guests". But only about profit....Our 25th Anniversary trip has been cancelled. I think we'll go celebrate in Europe.
By all means. Go to Europe where they evidently don't give a wit about profit and are now paying the proverbial price. "Profit" and "Evil" are not synonymns. Walt knew from day one that without corporate tie-ins and sponsors, his dream could never be realized.

So do I. If they were going to rip the MSB out completely and turn it into an SB like you see on regular civvie street, then yes, I could see the fuss. But this won't be the case.

I do not think it is only about offerings, I am sure new place will have same quality if not better. However, Bakery has a particular feel to it, it is iconic and it will change. Not that it should stop anyone from going to Disney but it is a weird change.

I said this on another post:

The message Disney is sending is loud and clear. They do not care a single bean about it's "guests". But only about profit. At least before we were able to think the guests were important to Disney. Millions of "guests" will love to have their Sbucks at the parks. There are dozens of places this national chain could open up shop but for Disney to close down the one remaining icon directly ON MAIN STREET is so very sad.

Our 25th Anniversary trip has been cancelled. I think we'll go celebrate in Europe.

Question: have you cancelled your Disney trip because of this MSB/SB malarkey?

Enjoy Europe - its where I am from :goodvibes You will find a Starbucks on every corner that charges double what they do here ... along with everything else, get saving :)

Probably in the minority here... but having experienced the "Starbucks" at DCA I am looking forward to being able to get SB on Main Street. At DCA they do not even refer to the place as Starbucks - it's the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe (named for the three pigs). Believe me, people looking for Starbucks have a hard time finding it because it's so subtle. Also, the CMs are not in Starbucks aprons - they're in costume, albeit I think they are a light green. And they have all the traditional DL pastries - way more offerings than a typical SB. So I think people need to relax - no one has said they're taking away the Main Street pastries... just adding to the offerings.

Some of the rage on here is making me laugh hysterically.

Have none of you done any research on how the Starbucks location in Disneyland looks? No... it's just raging against the machine here. I also love the screams of "What's next, McDonald's??????" like that's the worst thing in the world... seems most of you have forgotten that McDonald's DID have a presence in the parks and it was all tastefully done.

It's amazing to me. Rage first and research later right? Seems to make sense. All the petitions in the world isn't going to stop this. If it bothers you that much, e-mail Disney directly. Talk with your money, cancel your trips. Not willing to do that? Then I guess it wasn't worth that much rage.

Am I going to miss the Main Street Bakery as it is now? Yes, I am. But after seeing the way Starbucks was incorporated in at Disneyland I have all the faith in the world that Disney is going to do this justice, we won't lose our delicious baked goods and there won't be a giant green electric Starbucks sign glowing on Main Street. It's just sad to me that the first 7 or so pages (all I could stomach through) doesn't see that as well.

I can't believe people are cancelling their trips just because Main Street Bakery is closed and having Starbucks added :rotfl2:

Did people complain so much when McDonalds food was added to the parks? :P

Totally agree. Version in DCA very well done and it is great to have good coffee in parks. The hysteria surrounding this is amusing....

I complained when they took McDonalds AWAY -- I always enjoyed having a McFlurry in Epcot

May as well put in a Subway and a Taco Bell while they're at it. Hell, maybe it will be renamed The Capital One Magic Kingdom. They could make a lot of money that way. And we know Disney can use more money.

I love Starbucks but this is ridiculous. Love the idea of having them in the parks, but replacing the Main Street Bakery??? Absurd.

People are cancelling their trips because of this? Wow. :rotfl:

I can see being upset a bit. I hate change too. Some of this is over the top though.

Must admit I was mad at first but seeing the pix from DCA helped me thru it. I have faith it will be done tastefully and confident most bakery goods will survive. I think the problem is SB is not a turn of the century business where as Coke Carnation and others are old time names that fit better in the "Main Street" era.

They're not replacing Main Street Bakery. Assuming it's like Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe in DCA (and I have no reason to believe it won't be), they'll simply be selling Starbucks Products in the Main Street Bakery with only subtle Starbucks signing.
