Saw Wreck-it Ralph last night!

I went to an advanced screening of the movie last night and right away I will say it was so awesome. It's definitely a film all ages will enjoy but there are many video game references that probably those in there mid 20's or older will get. The great thing about the movie is that they throw all those classic arcade game characters such as Pac-man and Sonic the Hedgehog at the beginning and the rest of the film concentrates on the main characters. I'm 26 and loved the little cameos from some of my favorite games but I felt it was done very well because I was worried they were going to overdo it with the retro references.

The story itself is very good. It's almost like Shrek in that Ralph is a "bad guy"
looking for a better life and to be liked like his fellow game character, the hero, Fix-it Felix Jr. There are plenty of laughs to be had throughout the movie for both children and adults. The boys will like all the action in the movie and I think girls will like it too because much of the movie is set in a Candylandesque racing game called Sugar Rush complete with dessert inspired racers. The Sugar Rush land has some of the best visuals I've ever seen in any movie and the 3D showcases it very well.

I think if anything really made the movie it was cast. John C. Reilly did such a great job as Ralph and Jack McBrayer is so funny and charming as Fix-it Felix Jr. The one I was worried that was going to be annoying was Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz and even though she when you first meet her, which she's supposed to be, the more the story progresses you feel yourself liking her and rooting for her. The one who steals a lot of the scenes though is Jane Lynch as Sergeant Calhoun. If you are a fan of her on Glee then you will love her many one liners in the movie. I can't say enough how much I loved this movie and give it a solid 9/10. Most of the audience loved it too and clapped at the end. I do hope there is a sequel.

They also showed the short film Paperman which was very charming though many of the children in the audience didn't really get it because it is kind of a love story and also the characters don't speak and it's in black and white. It also received applause from many of the adults though. The two main characters reminded me a lot of Aladdin and Ariel.

I saw the preview of this today while watching the new Tinkerbell movie. I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing this. I had heard a little bit about it, but after seeing the sneak preview, I think it's gonna be pretty good.

I agree with everything said above. Went a preview last night and it was great. Theater was about 50/50 kids and adults and everyone was entertained, no whining, wandering, etc. Loved Jane Lynch!! So many funny situations. I think one of my favorites is that in Sugar Rush, the cops are donuts. Release the devil dogs!

I saw Wreck It Ralph today and loved it. The four main characters were all appealing and the cast was great. Jane Lynch is awesome - I'm not gonna spoil, but I really loved the "B-Plot" involving her. I laughed, I cried, I gasped (did NOT see a certain twist coming, even though they had laid down the markers for it - it was one of those head-smack "Of course! It all makes sense now!" moments). The visuals were terrific, especially the Sugar Rush world, and I was laughing out loud at some of the sweet treat puns/references (all I'm going to say is... the famous movie reference crossed with a certain brand of cookies... ).

Let me say, don't be put off if you don't know a lot about arcade video games - I'm sure there were gags/references I didn't get, but the heart and story are bigger than that and appealing on their own.

I concur with everything said so far. Disney Feature Animation's 52nd film takes us back to the creatively unique Disney I love. Rich Moore of Futurama and Simpsons fame pulls off a wonderful mix of humor and surprisingly, heart. The touching aspects came out of no where for me. The Roger Rabbit of video games is filled with great cameos from some classic characters. The voice talent was outstanding lead by John C. Reilly as the actors WERE these characters. The music is a perfect compliment to each scene and never felt out of place. It's poppy, but works. I can't add enough positives about this film. It's fun, exciting, and kept my 7 year old boy and I engaged from the Disney Feature Animation logo through the end credits. (Stick around for a different take on the Disney logo.) I saw it in 3-D which is a rarity for me these days as I don't usually think it's worth the up-charge. It does what it's supposed to do and adds depth without cheap 3-D tricks, but it sacrifices saturation and brightness slightly. Overall, very enjoyable. 4 bits out of 5.

THE SHORT, "PAPERMAN" LIVES UP TO THE HYPE! I can't wait to see where John Kahrs' directorial career takes us.

I agree! Just saw it tonight and it was such a great movie. It had a great story line, great characters and a great lesson. I would recommend not just families but people of all ages to see it. It is so different from anything Disney has done. And also, it did great with the critics which is good. It really was a great movie!

Love the movie. Great homages with references to video games.
It could have had more, but what's there had my sister and I cracking up randomly at the references (the metal gear exclamation point, the nes pad lock "up up down down left right left right b a start" and the graffiti "Aeris dies"). And in the game central station there was a lot of cameos, just had to know what you were looking at.

The movie had a cute story line and underlying message. I was wondering how they would tie the games together, to allow for the characters to game hop, and the surge protector as a station connecting the arcade machines was a great idea.

I would recommend it, and I plan to buy it when it comes out.

Paperman was also an unexpectedly charming surprise. It screams Pixar-esque (as does the movie), and of course that's not at all bad. But the whole movie has John Lasseter and the Pixar influence written all over it, which I find amusing as an avid Pixar fan

After the movie, I was very tempted to go find an arcade to play in!

~We saw Wreck-It-Ralph on Friday and everyone LOVED it! Get there early, I thought the short before the film was amazing, it was such a treat and should be an Oscar contender for best short. I hope Wreck It Ralph gets an Oscar or ten for best animated film, too. I'm not big on previews but this time they were really good, especially Oz. Also, if your theater offers the D-Box seats give it a try, we turned ours up to MAX, sat back & enjoyed the ride. It felt like we were in the film or better yet, on a Disney ride, lol.

~Check out these hilarious "mock" commercials, I thought this was a really nice touch. If you haven't seen the movie yet, don't watch! Have fun!

I agree with everything above. I just want to add my kudos to Alan Tudyk (who I had never heard of before) for doing a spot-on Ed Wynn voice for King Candy. (For those who don't remember Ed Wynn, he was the uncle with the laughing problem in Mary Poppins.)

I also want to echo the love for Paperman. I hope Lasseter continues the Pixar tradition of an original short with all Disney movies going forward.

Finally, be warned; you will leave the theatre with "S-U-G-A-R, jump into your racing car, it's Sugar Rush!" stuck in your head. Assuming you stay for the credits. Which you should, if only to see what happens to the Disney castle logo at the end.

I loved this film, it is a real different film for Disney, the art was beautful, the story writting was perfect, and all the characters interesting, of all of them I liked Vanellope because she reminded me of me at a young age, and yes I was kind of an grade school outcast for half of my life. This movie caused the first time I almost cried in a cinema, and the big twist shocked me.

But on the other hand, my folks weren't thrilled by it, they thought their was too much potty humor, violence, and dark moments in it, I do have to say their were spots that could have been toned down a little (for example: the Laffy Taffy scene) but they are older than me and were expecting something along the lines of Tangled or Peter Pan.

Anyway I sense a rewatching in the distant future either in the theater or on DVD, and about Papeman, I thought that was beautifully animated and had good 3D.

Took my youngest to see Wreck it Monday night and enjoyed the movie. I guess I missed the paperboy references in the movie.
Everytime king candy would talk I was like "where have I heard this voice before"

Jane Lynch's character had the most kick butt hair too.

They are in their 50s if your wondering, I tried to find a classic example of a regular Disney movie, but failed to realize that theirs always those elements in Disney films, just not in bigger quantities like "Ralph".

Theirs a number of reasons why they didn't like it other than content, they have very young grand children and they are always worried about what movies they are exposed to, in fact my niece was terrified by The villains in PatF and Tangled, the villain in this one would be no different. Also they aren't into dark kids films, it took them 3 screenings to get into UP, maybe this film will work the same for them.

Again great movie,I really want to see it again.
