DISers, what's your favorite way to deal with WDW-feet? I'm doing a pretty good preparation routine, but it's gonna happen.

My old routine was to soak in a hot-as-I-could-stand-it bathtub, but I think that might have made things worse because my feet and ankle swelled up quite a bit over the trip. :scared: I read in another thread that 2 aleve twice a day helps a lot with the soreness, but what's the consensus? :confused3

Proper shoes, lots of rest breaks during the day, and maybe even an ice bath when you get home depending on just how bad it is!

Sometimes I'm able to talk my DFi into a foot rub. :thumbsup2

As said before, a good pair of shoes is number one, but even with, my feet kill me by the end of each day. By then, however I'm normally too tired to do anything do about it. My only suggestion; endeavor to perservere.

I keep a bottle of water in the fridge that is labeled for feet only.

When I go back to the room for breaks or the evening, I use it to stretch out my feet. I put it on the floor and roll my feet over it. The cold is really nice on my feet.

I also make sure to lotion well each breaktime and at night with peppermint lotion.

Doing both has pretty much stopped my feet from hurting unless I really overdo it.

I bring 2 pair of well broken in shoes-and switch back and forth between them each day.
Carry cut moleskin and slap it on as soon as a hotspot starts, if you know where you tend to get blisters then moleskin before you head out.
Good socks- I bought 'bamboo' ones last time and they worked great!

Nothing worse than sore feet, baby them like crazy!

Elevating the feet after a day on them helps relieve any swelling. You've got to get them higher than your hips though, so I use a few towels rolled up into a bolster and use them while I lie in bed watching tv.

Soak feet in the tub when you get back to your room (but as you said, maybe hot water isn't the greatest idea! Try for lukewarm instead).

Peppermint foot lotion.

Roll your foot over a tennis ball on the floor.

Elevate your feet whenever possible.

There's a product called "Dr. Johnson's Foot Soap" that says it "soaks away foot misery."

And something that I figured out a few trips ago: I got swollen feet and ankles, too, but I think it had more to do with dehydration than tired feet. It's easy to get dehydrated when it's really hot and humid, so keep drinking tons of water (more than you think you need!).

4 fingers of bourbon for me.

A foot massage for my wife.

But comfy shoes help - try something from Clarks or The Walking Store.

This. . .

Or if you don't like the hot tub, fill the tub in your room about a foot deep (no pun intended) and put about a cup and a half of epsom salts in the there. Soak for about 30 minutes.

I read on the disboards to use Gold Bond's Pain Relieving Foot Cream. I bought some at Walmart and will be trying it out in Jan. :yay:

We go to the pool after a busy day - the quiet pools are usually open 24 hours. It is usually cool and refreshing - then a quick shower to warm up - a couple of aspirin before going to bed and feet feel great the next day.

for me after many blisters etc it was nike wide tennis shoes in fact I buy the mens in the EEE as I have high instep and rock on the ball of my foot when I walk and I had tried gel inserts and putting stacks of band aids on that spot before putting on a 100% cotton sock and still that ball of my foot would burn and ache. hot soaks never helped at all and made mine worse but some relief was from cool water soaks and it took any swelling out...when buying mens need to go down two sizes of what I wear in a womans. also need a wide toe bed and this helps that as well. result is no sore burning feet best investment I ever got. Kohl's has them on sale a lot as not to much call for size 8 in mens tennis shoes so I get some really good deals on some really nice shoes

I really think it's different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't be able to stand icing my feet.

Personally I've found I had different foot issues on different trips. This past trip my feet hurt but it was really my ankles that hurt worse. This held true til my last night (granted it was only a 3 night trip) My feet were in agony and I was seriously considering leaving the park (Epcot). Instead, I took off my sneakers and changed into the flipflops I had. Originally I figured I'd only wear the flipflops in the rain, that the sneakers were better for support and blah blah blah. Normally these particular sandals were a little loose on me, but when I tried to put them on I could barely smoosh my foot into them! It did feel better though. I ended up riding Universe of Energy right after that and since I had the whole row to myself, I gave myself a 37 minute long massage. Worked wonders :lmao:

But really, the best thing I found is some kind of anti inflammatory medicine and a massage. My second to last trip I had the jacuzzi tub in the room at OKW so I'd put my feet right against the jets and that was awesome.

This is going to sound crazy, but we have a crock-pot at home that is designated for feet only. DH has plantar fasciitis and likes to soak his feet sometimes when they're sore. None of the foot spas kept water warm enough so I bought him a crock pot instead and voila, it did the trick as it stays very warm on the low setting, but not too hot. We didn't bring it on this trip, but will next time; of course we drive so it's easier to bring bulky stuff. Oh and in case you were wondering, we have a totally separate one for cooking!

i bring icy hot or ben gay and rub my feet with it at night. for some reason i never can tell my feet/ankles/legs are sore until im in bed. that stuff helps it enough for me to go to sleep.

i also rotate my shoes, will wear croc flip flops and alternate with sneaks.

I know this sounds goofy but my daughter, who works for a major ballet company, learned this from the dancers. Put an ice bucket or two of ice into a clean garbage can. Fill with enough water that ice is floating. Stick foot in and keep it there for as long as you can tolerate it (a minute or two - dancers can usually make it 5+ minutes)!! When that foot can't take it any longer, switch feet. :scared1::scared1:

We watch her do it when we were in WDW for NYE. I didn't have what it took to try it, but it worked well enough for her that she did it a few nights.

Practicing walking a lot helped me a lot on the last trip. Not only did lose weight but I could tell my body was tolerating it better than I would have if I didn't prepare. Also SHOES! I'm a big believer in "barefoot" walking/running because it strengthens the feet as well as your ankles. Of course Vibram 5 fingers are one of the most popular shoes for barefoot walking/running but I have Nike Free Run 2.0's and they're fabulous! (bonus: they're water resistant). In addition to all that a nice lotion and a rub and keeping them on something soft helps too!

Personally I believe it all revolves around the shoes... What you try on when buying when your feet are normal is one thing but after many hours at Disney walking, your feet will swell up, they never will return to normal during your stay and now when you put your feet in your "so called perfect fit" shoes, they are tight....2 pairs kf shies are better, one regular size for starting off and another pair 1/2 or 1 size bigger to accommodate the swelling....
