This will be our 9th DCL cruise and I booked and paid for a 5e room which is the extended veranda which seats 4 since there is 3 of us in the family and I just received my room number and it's a 5c which is just your standard seats 2 veranda :confused3 so upset called DCL and they informed me that I was "Upgraded" to a 5c...I told them I booked and requested 5e and that isn't a upgrade to our family of 3. They were no help at all. Any suggestions?

I am sorry that happened. We had a "Do not Upgrade" attached to our reservation so we would not be upgraded. We have also booked a 5E and wanted the 5E on the deck and stateroom we picked. I don't have any advice other than to keep calling and see if something opens up in a 5E. Good Luck!

I have our TA place a "Do not upgrade/change room" on our reservations also. I want my 5E specifically chosen room!!! I wouldn't give up that verandah for anything but the Roy or Walt suites!! Keep trying to call.....

Good luck!

Upgrades can happen to anyone at any time so in the future if you pick a certain room or category and you don't want to be upgraded or moved then tell DCL or your TA to put a Do Not Upgrade notation on your reservation. it is not a guarantee that you won't be upgraded but it should help.

If you booked and paid for a 5e stateroom, why did you just now get notified of the room number? Did you book GTY?

If I were you, I'd call back and demand the room I booked, and if told no I'd ask for a super visor and keep climbing the chain of command until I got the room I booked and paid for. Disney cruises are too expensive to be given what ou I'd not want after you specified what you wanted at the time you paid. If they are tryoing to sell you on what a fantastic upgrade this is, I'd tell them to feel free to give this gift to someone else. I would thank them for the thpought, but explain why it isn't gonna work for you and be firm about it. Honestly, if they refused to move you, I'd straight up cancel, as they breached the contract by switching things up on you.

Even when you are assigned a specific cabin DCL can change your category with an upgrade. They can't put you in a lower category but they certainly can put you in a higher one. Upgrades just don't happen on GTY bookings.

I would also call back but I certainly would not DEMAND anything. I would politely explain that I really booked that specific cabin for special reasons and did not want to be moved. I took a lot of time and consideration in picking that cabin, etc. I firmly believe you get more with honey than vinegar. Why put DCL on the defensive right off the bat. You can always escalate the matter but start off being polite and looking for an ally not an enemy.

In all honesty, how would DCL know the OP didn't want an upgrade. Have you read this board...everyone is always looking for upgrades. Lesson learned and next time they pick a specific cabin put a do not upgrade notation on the reservation. DCL did not breach the contract...they upgraded someone...well within their rights.

Very true. However, if she booked 5E GTY, then a 5E was never guaranteed to begin with -her only guarantee was for for a "5E or higher."

I don't believe you can put a "Do not upgrade" on a GTY stateroom can you?:confused3

I totally agree MJ.......you get much more with a carrot then a stick!...Demanding, especailly on the phone, just puts the other person on the defensive and less likely yo want to help you out!

Somehow, I would think demanding and threatening to cancel is like hitting yourself in the back of the head.......only one to lose is you.....losing your cruise! Not to mention fighting to get your money back.

Since she just received her room number, I'm guessing she booked a 5E GTY, not a specific 5E room.

It sounds like she did get what she booked - "5E or higher" - and really doesn't have an argument to climb the chain with. :sad1:

I suggest that you read the cruise contract.

We had this happen to us. When the Dream sailings were first released, we booked an aft-verandah on Deck 7 during the Gold/Platinum booking window. When we booked, we had our choice of nearly every cabin on the ship and we picked that one. At that time, it was a Cat 6B (now a 5E). About 6 weeks prior to sailing, someone on our FE who had a GTY reservation posted that she got her cabin, and it was our cabin! I checked our reservation, and we had been "upgraded" to a Cat 5D on deck 6. I was nearly in tears because to me, that wasn't an upgrade at all. So, I called DCL, explained my situation and they gave us our original cabin back. The guy acted like I was crazy for not wanting their "upgrade" but he was able to change it back. I felt bad for the other family because they were so excited to have gotten the big aft-verandah and they had it taken away from them. The whole thing was such a mess. So I'd agree with the advice of others about noting that you don't want to be upgraded if you really care about the cabin you selected.

That said, I too would be interested in knowing if you had a GTY or actually picked a cabin. We didn't have any trouble getting our cabin back when I called. The guy acted like I was nuts, but I didn't have to demand, or escalate, or do anything other than ask.

My parents are going on the cruise with us. We chose rooms on the same floor, same side. We specifically told the TA that we DID NOT want to be moved.

I think if you didn't book a specific room and just booked 5E, you're kind of stuck.

I suggest that you read the cruise contract.

Even if you booked a specific stateroom you could be stuck. You can request that DCL not move you from the room you selected, and if they do you can request that they move you back, but it's just that, a request.

I admit I didn't read through the cruise contract until AFTER our first cruise with DCL. Maybe that was a good thing since I knew from experience that what they delivered was so much more than what was actually promised in the contract. That thing is scary!
