NHL CBA - Lockout. UPDATE(1/11) The Season's Back On! Let Fantasy Hockey Begin

I just received our contigency plan this afternoon. When the Pens won the Stanley Cup, full season ticket holders got to have their photo taken with the Cup - it was unbelievable!

We got our picture taken with the Cup too when the Bruins won. We weren't sure if the Bruins would do something like that, but psyched when they did! I was especially happy for BDL because a lot of people he knows had their photo ops during the summer by chance. I was so happy he got his chance too :) If you don't mind me asking, what did the Pens put on the table for you? BDL said Minnesota ticket holders get 10% for their offer. The B's are giving us a choice. 3% apr on games missed but it has to stay on account and you have to renew your tickets for next season or 1% apr on games missed which they send as a check at the end of the month.

By this time... The teams should have been in camp and be gearing up for the pre-season games. But no. The only NHL news we have, is the list of players who are going to play in Europe. Does anyone else hope the NBC and NBC Sports Channel will broadcast some of those games, as kind of a huge middle finger to the NHL owners? Because, besides the players being locked out, I'm sure NBC has sold ad space on for the games and now have to return or compensate the money. At least it would give us something to watch besides (blecht!!!) the NBA.

As for the list of players going to Europe, so far for the Bruins...

Tuukka Rask
David Krejci
Anton Khudobin
Andrew Ferrence (I wonder how he will bike across the Atlantic)
Tyler Seguin
Rich Peverley
Dennis Seidenberg

For those keeping score, this list includes 2 top 6 F's, the 2nd pairing of D's and both goalies.

COME ON OWNERS!!!!! Get with the program. You aren't winning this one.

I'm not sure - I just told my agent to leave my money in my account and I'd wait to see what happens. I'm not sure that they've formally announced any perks to the STH, though. I know I did have the option to request that any unused tickets can be refunded monthly during the lockout, but I don't think there was any mention of interest. Wow 10% from the Wild, sounds like they really don't want to refund any money or they've already spent it. I'll let you know when I hear anything more.

The NFL and the refs had reached an agreement in a very rushed session yesterday. Let's hope the NHL and the NHLPA can do the same thing when they meet tomorrow. They say that they are going to be dealing with more of the peripheral issues, but I am hoping beyond hope that they will tackle the big issue first.

As a Bruins season ticket holder, I'm getting antsy. The season doesn't officially open for the B's until 10/11 at Philly. And there may be time to get camp done, blast away the pre-season and jump in with both skates. They HAVE TO!!! Because the next week, the Bruins are playing the Habs in a home and home series. And messing with a B's/Habs game is blasphemy.

The NFL had to settle it because they were taking a lot of heat about the substitute refs, especially after the Packer/Seahawk game. It's sad to say but in comparison to the NFL, no one gives a crap about the NHL. I can't see them getting anything accomplished Friday especially since it's taken them this long to speak again. I hope I'm wrong.

It looks like ESPN might be trying to get back into the hockey game. It looks like they will be attempting to broadcast KHL games starting this weekend. They were originally supposed broadcast a game, featuring AO, the new premiere date will be over the weekend. HERE is the article.

I think NBC really dropped the ball here (can't say "drop the puck" cuz that would mean the start of a game). Not only could they up their current NBCSports channel ratings, which must be non-existent, but you get the inside track to the next big thing that could be coming to the NHL.

The league has officially cancelled all games through Oct. 24th. That is 6 games for the Bruins (3H, 3A).

When this whole thing is over, I think I might start selling "IMPEACH BETTMAN" t-shirts in all the team colors throughout the league. This is what happens when you put a basketball man in charge of hockey.

I'll take one black/gold "Impeach Bettman" shirt please :thumbsup2

ESPN will air AO vs. Malkin in the KHL. They will air this game at 1pm today and again at 8pm.

In contrast, does anyone know what NBCSports channel aired last night as filler?

The frickin' European darts championships.

Happy Season Opening Day everyone... :furious:

I'm wearing my Jets shirt today, in hopes it will magically end the lockout today so we only lose a week or so of games. Is it working yet?

I heard on a local sports show that NBC is pressuring the league. They don't want to lose the Winter Classic plus they need games for the NBC Sports Channel (Versus).

According to several reports, the owners have come back to the players with a proposed 50/50 split. The owners have also pulled back on their version of arbitraion.

Read the Yahoo article HERE

Fehr: ''Would like to believe after we are done [with review]....that it's an excellent starting point and there's a deal to be made.''

Fehr likes the base. My prediction is they reject the deal (but politely) and the next 3-4 days are spent negotiating the minor things like UFA years and ELC length. I think they're going to accept the financial parts which was what the BIG issues were. This is big.

Not sure if everyone here knows this, but New England suffered a 4.0 earthquake yesterday, that started In Maine and ran as far south as Connecticut. So far there have been no major injuries or damage reported, thankfully.

And, though I hate to disagree with people who are way more educated than I am, but the seizmologists are wrong. The rumbling event had nothing to do with anything tectonic. Instead, news broke that the NHL owners had come back to the table with a potential 50/50 offer, and simultaneously, 20 million hockey fans throughout New England screamed in unison...

"ABOUT FRIGGIN' TIME!!!!!!"

HA HA HA. I think it was more likely fans all over North America. My fingers are crossed 6 ways that the lockout will end and we will see the puck drop Nov. 2nd!

I've also heard that Bettman never had unanimous support from ownership throughout the league regarding the lockout. I think he was forced to put an offer on the table because he was afraid that he would be blindfolded and forced to walk the plank. I am cautiously optimistic that this will be settled in time to salvage the season and hope that the hockey gods will be smiling on us all.

I truly think Bettman needs to go, but who could replace him? There are lots of great choices but who wants to take a job with the potential to be hated by millions of people?

The Hanson Brothers would do a better job of this than Bettman.

But seriously, the league should look to the NFL commisioner's office building to find someone. The NFL has done nothing but grow. They have a history of getting ahead of the curve regarding PED and substance abuse. And being a physical sport, have been dealing with the player safety issue for a while. Aside from the ref lockout, they seem to do everything right.

Why the NHL went with an NBA, Stern lapdog, as a commisioner is completely beyond me.
