Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

I guess it depends. When we did the race, we were taken right to the start, shown the route map and told to leave our bags with the cruise staff girl in front of the map. The race began very quickly after that for us so we did not have time to buy the shirts before the race. But I am not sure if this is true for other people doing the race on other cruise stops in Castaway Cay. If you have someone who will be waiting at the finish for you, they can easily pick up the shirt while you are doing the race since the shirts are sold at the area close to the finish line. We didn't have anybody waiting for us as we were meeting the rest of our family on the beach when we were finished.

just ran it last month -
no certificate or medal, just the bib. t-shirts are sold out within an hour

gift shop, path, loop, serenity bay, path, loop, gift shop

have fun
My dh and I will be very unhappy if we run it and don't get the medal and the certificate.

I'll be happy with any of those. I last ran it back before they had shirts or bibs or medals. Or a timing clock.

Anyone know how I sign up? Can't find it when i booked my excursions?

You won't find that activity listed anywhere. Don't worry, it'll be no problem to sign up at guest services once onboard.

Depending on time of year, be forewarned: The course is really very hot and dry, so you might want to double up on fluids that morning and wear a hat of some kind. I mean it's HOT. I like to run in the heat, but that 5K is really, well, I think you get the idea.

Hope you have an awesome cruise!
:cool1:

The night before, they will announce a place to meet up in the morning. Our meeting place was the pub. Two CMs took our names and room #'s, and explained the route. We all walked together to the start point, and they started. It isn't a race per-se, but they do have a clock running (your time isnt recorded.) All participants got a Mickey medal, and a few days later, we got a magical moments certificate delivered to our stateroom.
It is pretty informal, but I enjoyed it. I hope this helps. Good luck!

You dont need to sign up. It will be announced in the Navigator an you just show up where it states to meet.

Thanks everyone!! Well I'm no runner so I'm braving this in December when the heat won't kill me! This is my goal to my workout routine now, to be able to complete this!

Can someone provide details on the CC5K? Is it part of evert cruise? When and where do you sign up for it? We are going on the Fabtasy for Thanksgiving and daughters want to run the CC5K.

The start time depends on what time your cruise will get you to CC. We have been on Fantasy western and Dream Bahamas. The Bahamas cruises arrive at CC much earlier the the western. The 5k on our western didn't actually start til close to 10. The Bahamas one will start you at 9ish. Makes a big difference in that heat..lol.

The navigator will explain the details. Basically, you show up at a certain time(depending on the arrival at CC time) and meet in the Tube. Sign up when you get there. That's it :)

Some navigators show kids clubs not open at that time.... what do we do with the kids?

Scuttles Cove at CC is run by the same counselors. Yes, the navigators say that BUT.... If you are running the 5K, they will allow you to check your kids in early. We double checked the day before at Oceaneers. The counselors we talked to said they will definitly take them early. Another friend we made on the cruise asked a different counselor who kind of gave her the run around and didn't really know the answer. If this happens to you, don't except that answer and find a supervisor to ensure you can check them in early.

Is there a minimum age requirement to run? I think my 11 year old would love to run this one with me!

When I did this race in August, the Navigator listed the minimum age as 12. We showed up in the lounge that was our meeting place. We signed in with the member of the cruise staff that was in charge. There were some kids, not sure if there were any under twelve, but I didn't see the cruise staff member ask any ages of the kids.

Minimum age to participate is 12. Some CMs would allow the kids to participate however they cannot be signed up, nor they would receive a certificate nor bib. This is due to insurance issues (or so they say). Ie, they look the other way...

Other CMs won't allow anyone under 12 period and you'll have to check the kids in the labs.

The run is totally unshaded. If it's hot/humid, it will be an issue for young ones.

We ran the 5k last week on the 3 day Dream. Although the cm didn't allow those under 12 to sign up, if they happened to be running along side their parent and happened to pick up a bib from the table the cm said they wouldn't stop them. There were a few close to 12 who ran and some closer to 7 or 8. They were all with a parent on the course and I saw several with Mickey medals after they finished. They looked like they had a lot of fun.

It would be nice to know if they would def. look the other way re kids or not. Our almost 10 year olds have been training in secret with me for weeks now as a surprise to join dh/dad on this run. Just read this thread and feeling especially bummed.

This is our first cruise and I have seen in other posts that there is a 5k on CC. I don't run, but my 10 year old DD does. She just completed her first 5k in 32m 36s (so proud of her). I told her about the 5k on CC and she wants to participate.
Would she be able to run on her own? I'm trying to talk DH into running with her, but I'm not sure he could keep up .......LOL
