Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

I wearing my Captain Hook shirt that I got at the expo in DL. And w/ the new 5am start, the glow in the dark will be perfect. Maybe sleeves if it's cold enough. I have to pick up a black running hat and feather if I can find one at Michael's or something, and if I see a cheap hook hand at Spirit or Party City this month I might pick that up too.

I wanted the sea witch shirt! But I think I need an ex large (big ****s, big gut- but getting smaller!)

Wonder if they would be at the wine and dive and if I could find someone to shop for me... Hmmmm

are yall talking about the Raw Threads booth? I think you can order from them online. I almost bought the cheshire cat tank at the ToT expo, but I thought $40 for a tank was a bit much, eventhough it was pretty cute...and I figured I probably wouldn't get much wear out of it since Fall is supposedly upon us. :rotfl2: As hot as it ended up being that week at the World, I ended up wishing I had bought it just to wear around the parks.

Yes! Online they are out of my size. I do like the Cheshire Cat shirt though. Was it cute in person?

In Texas, I can wear that 10 months out of the year. :)

Yeah, it is the raw threads one. I got the shirt which was $42, didn't know the tanks were that much, that is a bit much for a tank. I love it though, it's really comfortable. And I wore it last weekend down to DL and it was nice to wear a disney shirt that no one else had on. However race weekends...

And Patty, you can get them on the website, I ordered the Maleficent one (shouldn't have, but loved it :sad2:). If it helps any, I got an XL and I'm a D/DD and it fits great. Haven't checked yet if you'll be able to see my sports bra due to the v-neck, but the fit is great. The fabric is really soft and gives well.

Just saw your post about being out of stock~ keep checking especially around W & D and Marathon weekend. They might open more stock.

Yeah I thought it was really cute...I liked the shade of pink that it was especially. Really soft fabric too. Maybe I'll pick one up eventually at an expo...I like the designs they came up with for characters.

I bought the Evil Queen V neck short sleeve at the Tower of Terror expo. Wore it for the race and didn't regret it for an instant. It's is incredibly soft and it breathed. I'm convinced that bamboo is the way to go. I swear that it helped me cope with the extreme humidity that night. Worth every expensive penny. Just bought a long sleeve plain one off their website on sale. I want another one for the Princess...hoping they release new styles.

Ok, I know that somewhere in my head I already knew this, but MAN what a differnce crosstraining makes in your running!! I'm getting reminded of this the hard way, unfortunately. The bootcamp class I attend went on sort of a hiatus over the summer...everyone just had so much going on that it was hard to have more than a few people consistently each week showing up, so it was hard for our trainer to justify the class...so we decided to take a break. The idea was that we would all keep up with some strength training on our own...ummmmm, yeah. Not so much. I tried, I really did, but I am sorry to say I just wasn't disciplined enough to keep it up, so I just stuck to running 3x per week in training for the ToT 10 miler. Well, I got a little "soft" around the edges, if you know what I mean, and slowed way down...which I attributed mostly to the harsh summer weather here in the south. Well, last night our class regrouped and HOLY CRAP was it an eye opener. I am positive that the heat was only about 50% of the reason my pace slowed so much...the other 50% was from not crosstraining. I'm so disappointed that I've lost so much of what I worked really hard for last year...I feel like I'm at square one again!!!:sad::sad: (and man, am I SORE today!) I used to be a BEAST at lunges (my trainer's FAVORITE!), and I attributed that to the running I was doing. Well, I was completely wrong!! It was the lunges that were helping me run better. We did a very short exercise last night that incorporated some lunges with a med ball (very tame combo compared to what we used to do) and I thought I was going to DIE. Legs shaking, quads felt like bricks...it was horrible! My awesome classmates were cheering me on to finish the last few and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, it hurt so bad...physically and mentally.

I'm hoping I don't forget this feeling and can get my behind in gear and not let this happen again. Learn from me Tinks...crosstrain!!!

So, with that...my class is only meeting once a week now and I really would like to throw in another day of some low-impact strength training (hand weights, kettle bells, ab work, etc.). I was wondering if anyone here uses a good strength training video (download or DVD) that they would recommend?

I was "thinking" about starting cross training again and you sold me.

I really like the Jullian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I'ts about 25 min in length with 3 different levels. I swear you will gain "super powers" doing this.
Target ususally has a nice selection of JM videos.

Hope this helps.

I know I have to crosstrain...but I've been avoiding it. Your post is proof that it needs to be done. Problem is, I dont/can't do lunges; they're too hard on my knees. What other crosstraining should I be looking at that is effective? Yoga? Pilates? What???

I've never done Yoga or Pilates...since I started this running thing (;)) I've just been attending my trainer's bootcamp classes...where she gets REALLY creative sometimes...we do a whole mix of exercises, some using just our body weight and sometimes we use hand weights, kettles, ropes, med balls...whatever she decides to pull out of her bag of tricks. Honestly, I have no idea what exercise would replace a lunge that would be safe for your knees, sorry. Maybe wall-sits? Those are fun ;) And don't underestimate the importance of ab/core work. That helps your running tremendously as well and is one of my worst areas...I have a really hard time getting that area strengthened. I was seeing improvements, but all that's gone now that I got lazy :faint:

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have a JM video that I downloaded to my ipad, but I only did it a few times...I dont' think it was the shred one though...I can't remember what it was called. I'll take a look at this one though...I could use some super-powers!!

Insanity. That's what I started using, and it is indeed just that...insane! However, I was pretty faithful with it all up to the ToT, and my time still sucked. That heat and humidity was all I feared it was going to be...

Going for my first 5-miler since the ToT this morning. I did the castaway cay 5k, and that was an experience unto itself....it POURED!!!! As in take off shoes, pour out water, and squeeze out dripping socks! :lmao: It did make the last 1/2 mile that much easier, tho...

Im all about cross training. When I was doing p90x and would run, I felt like I was flying! The leg workout was killer but I saw results in my run time.

I have 30day and its crazy- she kills me in those little 20 min workouts. My arms and abs mostly. Not my legs. But I figure core is a biggie for running

Have insanity sitting on the counter but can't seem to get into it. Maybe I just need to go for it

Yoga and Pilates are also great workouts for runners. Core core core!!! Big help if its strong

Just wanted to share that fares on United went down today into LAX from Houston to a normal fare that I can stomach. :cheer2: They've been so crazy-out-of-hand lately!! I normally fly into SNA, but right now it's a huge difference in the fare for me, so I'm going to give LAX a go this time. Anyway, thought I'd share in case anyone else was waiting on the fares to move some....you might want to check for your route.

Kim,
How was Halloween Time ?? Did you attend the Halloween Party ?

I've got to wait a couple weeks before we head back down & go to the Halloween Party on the 23rd.

I went last weekend and it was so much fun!! I was in complete awe of how many decorations and pumpkins were out. A little disappointed that DCA didn't have anything, but loved DL! And I think they were prepping NOS, b/c the buildings looked so naked, can't wait to see it at X-mas, it's my fave part. I did the party and the tour and they were a blast. There were 2 little kids that totally made the tour so much fun. Tom Sawyer Island was so pretty during the party, fog and lit green and purple. They also had the Dapen Dans dressed as grave diggers on 1 of the rafts on the river on & off it was cool. Couldn't believe some of the lines though ~ HM was outside in ropes near the fountain, never have seen that before.

Hopefully gas will be cheaper when you go down! I can't believe the past week :sad2: and I have to go up to the city twice this weekend for Nike. Wish they had morning of pickup, that would be so nice.

Do you like the boot camp classes? Are they just in a park or something like that? I've been getting a lot of groupon offers for those. I just bought one for a local gym that does the Krav Maga fitness classes. I start those next weekend.

SWA is having a big sale too! The promocode is BIGDEAL40 and is covers race weekend, but not Sun. If you're leaving Mon and doing RT, you can get 40% off.

I love my bootcamp class. It's not really one that's advertised...it started several years ago (way before I joined!) as a way for our trainer to make some extra $$...it's not her day job. She trained some friends of hers, who told other friends, and so on and it just grew into a pretty steady group. When I joined up with them, we used to meet twice a week and it was a great workout...we would meet in one of two area parks...one that has a monster hill (which is where we're currently meeting)...she loves that hill. :faint: We've lost a few people along the way...several lately because she's had to cut it down to once a week and some people want more. She's turned alot of us into distance runners now too! Started with my BF, then me and now all of us have completed at least a 10k, most of us half marathons and fulls too. We really have a great group and are all friends...and she's an amazing trainer/motivator...you can tell she loves doing it. (and she charges us next to NOTHING campared to other bootcamps that market themselves in the area.) and it's not a drill seargeant type of class, which sometimes you think of when you hear "bootcamp"...we have fun, but she does push us. Twice a week with her plus training for a run made a huge difference...I'm gonig to have a hard time replicating the intensity of the workout on my own for that second day.

For some reason, right now the flight on SW is much more $$ than the United fare I'm getting...even factoring in bag fees vs. no fees on SW. Oh well...I prefer United anyway and the airport in Houston that SW flies out of is waaaaaay farther away from me than the one United uses, so that worked out for me this time. Now if the fares to Orlando would drop for Princess, I'd be a happy camper...those are just insane right now.

I'm so glad you had a great time !!!! Can't wait to see the Daper Dans as grave diggers.

Gas prices I know....I try not to think about it ;) What I did do was trade in a bunch of Best Western rewards points for gas cards. We will use some of those on the next trip.
Good luck at Nike.:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: That seems like a really difficult course to me with the hills etc. I don't know where you have to pick up your stuff but could you take BART or the Cal train to make it a little easier on you ?

That's cool that you could change in some points for cards. I have mine going over to my SWA points, but I may have to change that...

You should try for Nike next year! Some of the hills are...I don't know, evil sounds a little to nice for them, but the rest of the course is nice. :p The worst is right around 5 or so when you go from the Presidio right up to the base of the bridge then down hill about .1 only to go back up hill some more. But the necklace makes it all worth it. I wasn't going to do it this year, but they opened it up and I am scheduled to do 12 on Sun so I figured might as well do the extra mile and get that pretty blue pouch! I looked at Cal Train and they have a baby bullet taking you up, but coming back they don't so by the time I got Muni back to the station and then home, it'd be almost 2 1/2 hrs and 11:15 at night. :crazy2:
