Castaway Cay 5K First Timer Support Thread

Starting C25K today, hoping to run the 5K in March. I've tried running programs in the past without much luck, but I know a lot of people way less fit that I who have used the program successfully, so I'm hoping it will work for me too!
Now to find my iPod so I can get an app to tell me when to run and walk ;)

My DH and I ran our first CC5k in 38 minutes in February and the CM was still there waiting and timing and handing out medals. It was our first 5K, and we had only started running. We plan to do the CC5K on our next cruise in October!! Can't wait!! :cool1: You should prepare for the heat and humidity as someone else said. It makes all the difference.

I just finished week4 of c25k. :cool1:
I have already done 2 5k's this year but I have never done the Castaway Cay 5k. I am more excited about this one than the other ones. I am not a runner and I don't really like it. I am registered for the Princess Half Marathon in Feb. My girlfriends have convinced me to run with them. So, I hope this will be good practice. :cheer2:

Yay! More of us doing C25K! I love it!!

I started week 7 today, and really, really wanted to give up, but said nope, I started and I'm gonna finish!

We can ALL do it!!! :yay:

We're on the 12/15/12 Fantasy and DS6 and I are running the CC5K. It's our first cruise, so obviously the first time on this course. We're very excited!

To those of you who are just training to run your first 5k...YOU CAN DO IT! I am living proof that anyone can. I have a titanium hip and rheumatoid arthritis, and until last July, couldn't even run for one minute without stopping. I started a training program, stuck to it, and in the last 9 months, I've ran 5 half marathons. So, please don't give up! You're body will amaze you if you just stay committed.

FYI, on our August cruise they were strict about age...I want to say it was 12 or 13 and up. My 9 year old wasn't allowed to participate.

Hmmm. Do you think they'd stop them from banditing?

I'm planning to run my first 5K next week on Castaway Cay. We are on the Oct. 7-11 Disney Dream cruise. I've been doing a couch to 5k program.

Good luck everyone! I'll post how it went when I get back.

Yes, on our cruise a ten year old was stopped. The dad had to check him into the kids club on the island and sprint to catch us at the start line (the group kept walking). There was no one else in the area at the time, and two cast members are on the course to monitor. I was told its for safety reasons...totally makes sense as the heat can be brutal.

Is the cutoff 12 or 13?

My almost 13yo DD is the only one in the family who knows I'm training to run the 5K and is really looking forward to running as a family!

I hope she isn't going to be banned!

Well that stinks. We live in Houston and are just back from a morning run in 98% humidity.

I'm going to see if I can find in my navigators later today...stay tuned...it was definitely listed.

We just did the 5k on the September 20th cruise. They asked was everyone over 12, but that was it. My nephew was 11, but no one said anything. We had a fun time, but the heat was brutal. We live south of Houston, so are used to the heat, but it was tough. We did get the medals.
