I'm running the Smuttynose tomorrow, so thanks! I need the luck because I haven't done any type of exercise the last couple of weeks, so I'll probably be walking most of the time. I don't want to push myself to the point of injury, since the official Princess training starting next week, so I don't mind walking more if need be.

It's my first half, but I'm excited to see how long it'll take me so I can work off of that while training for the Princess. I'm meeting a friend tonight down in Hampton Beach. We decided to stay over and so we didn't have to worry about traffic and parking tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone else running a race this weekend! Kim and Laurie - maybe I'll see you tomorrow. I'll be in a light blue sparkle skirt and a bright yellowish visor, so if you see someone dressed like that, say hi!

Holly

So bummed I didn't see you! But, I was so cold and wet the whole way, I didn't really hang out afterwards. Wishin' I had a beer now, though!

My longest training run ws 10 miles and that was 2 weeks ago. I haven't really run since, so I knew it would be tough. I managed to finish in.... 2:45::33. So.Darn.Close. LOL Ah, well. I still have a 10K coming up in a month.

Congrats to everyone racing today!

My first 10k was a success, in the cold and rain, I ran 1:19:36, a12:56 pace, well on my way to where I want to be for the PHM. Who do I send my results to for corral placement?

Don't know the answer to your question, but great job on the 10K!

Great job! From registration:

If you did not provide proof of time at the point of registration or acquire it after you have registered, then email this information to disneysports@trackshack.com before December 1, 2012. After December 1, 2012, you will need to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth at the Disney?s Fit for a Princess Expo if you wish to have your start corral placement changed.

I've been terrible about finding time to post since school started. Just too many things for me to juggle. :sad2: Every single one of my classes either has a lab or a significant service learning component or both. :sad1:

We leave for WDW on Sat. :woohoo: Any last minute tips for running at Disney? We'll be at POR then BWI. I've been doing 3 mile runs, waiting until after vacation to start upping the distances.

I'm not sure that the issue is certification, but "proof" somewhere about the time. So if your club is doing a run but they don't have timing- I'm not sure it would be accepted. I have heard stories of runs where you hear your time called out as you cross the finish, then go over to a table and have someone record it. Would this work? I dunno. It might be perfectly acceptable.

I really have NO idea how much checking rundisney does with corral times. I assume not too much to be honest based on some past experiences--- when my friend had to change her time for her corral at the expo, they just looked at the printout she brought. They didn't pull it up online to cross check or anything else. In fact, in her case, she was showing them a half marathon team race she did. She showed her split time and distance (just over 10K) and her age. Her NAME wasn't even on the print out- since it was just the team name with ages of the participants next to it.

The person at the expo kinda looked at it funny, but went ahead and moved her up to corral B based on this information. We laughed later that if we had thought about it, there was a team who had someone the same age as her- but they ran it much faster! We could have claimed that team and gotten her into A corral. :rotfl2:

Well that makes me feel more hopeful, thank you! If I do have to wait for a race after Dec 1, our local running club does post the times on their website with the names & ages of runners. I'm not sure how the race I'm trying to do before Dec 1 will work. I've never actually ran a race outside of my local running club, except for the Komen Race For the Cure, which had 66,000 participants that year :scared1:

If they have it on a website, I'd print it and bring it to expo. I am pretty sure they would take it.

I believe all you have to do is run a race where you can get results posted or printed. I have run events where the runner themselves looked at the clock as they were finishing, wrote their info down on a slip of paper and turned it in. If it is later posted on that organization's website, I believe it will work for you.

I'm sure I could probably do the math or find a calculator, but... I'm lazy today. Anyone know off the top of their head what 10K time is "equivalent" to a 2:45 half?

(I'm running a 6.66 mile race, so trying to figure out my goal with the added little half-ish mile.)

Thanks, that's what I'll do :thumbsup2 Obviously I'm not running the Princess to get a great time but I do want a higher corral placement to start with. I can run a 10k in about 55-60 minutes so I'm hoping I'll be able to get it.

Kim, that's a great time!!:cheer2: Awesome job! I finished in 3:11:33. Up until about mile 10 I was on track to finish a little before 3 hours, but I slowed down and with the rain and cold, I tightened up fast and just couldn't get moving again, so I walked pretty much the last 3 miles. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to meet you, but I was freezing after the race. I couldn't even drink the beer. Just had a little chowder and was on my way home.

I loved the neighborhood that had the music playing and all the signs up in the yard.

Because I'm at work and don't feel like working, I checked out the pace calculator on Runner's World. With your half time, it would translate to a 1:14:51 10K, so a little longer for the Devil's Chase.

I hope we get the chance to meet up at the Devil's Chase at the end of the month. That one looks like fun.

Oh, gosh - with that 10K time, you should definitely get in Corral B, with an outside shot at A, depending on how many speedy people enter this year!

Heads up, Target lovers! (And who isn't, really?!?!) My Target had lg. amts of workout clothes marked down 50% today. Shorts, tanks and bras - great deals. My fave score was another pair of their C9 running pants. They are similar to yoga pants and SUPER comfy - they are orig. 19.99, but tag said 10.50. Looked at my receipt and they ended up being 7.68!!! :yay: They had a good variety of XS - XL and they come in short (that would be me), regular and long. This was at a SuperTarget, so it was a larger store.

They also had some "ragged edge" tutu things in the costume section for 12.99, but I think those were more geared to the not-so-disney princess look....:rolleyes1

I actually got some good deals at Walmart on some Janskin tights and shirts. Short sleeve were down to $4 I believe. Long sleeve were 8.97. The dry /tech / tights (super thin shiny ones ;) ) were $8.00.

Congrats! There were a lot more hills than I was expecting, but that neighborhood was so much fun! I know what you mean about being cold--I stopped for my first walk break around mile 7ish (where they were handing out the gels) and I froze up and just struggled the rest of the way. By mile 11, I wanted to die and at mile 12 I just wanted to sit on the curb and cry. Thankfully, a friend of mine who had already finish spotted me just past mile 12 and talked me to mile 13.

Yes, let's definitely meet at Devil's. (Fingers crossed for at least a DRY race.) Thanks for the checking the calculator for me. Glad I could help you procrastinate. :thumbsup2

So I am trying despearately to convince anyone to join me n this trip. It looks like a great way to try my first half. Just did my first 10k yesterday and have a bit more confidence that getting to the 13 by feb isn't unrealistic. Question. I am in disney time share so is old use my points but is there transport for these resorts to the race?

WAY TO GO! I am currently pacing the same time and have my very, very, very, first race (a 5K) this saturday at Sea World San Antonio. Hope I can keep up the time.:cheer2:

LOVED reading your post! I think you had a great time in the race considering the weather factors. I am hoping for my very, very very first 5K here in San Antonio on Saturday that it's not the usual 1000% humidity and I can hold my 13:00 min mi pace. If not....I'll be happy just to finish! :)

Congratulations to all of the recent racers! Great going everyone!!!

Congrats on the 10K! And the answer is yes, there is transportation from all resorts for 2013 from what I've read. We're staying at AKL on a friend's DVC points :)

Hello Ladies! I've been reading the board and you are all so awesome :worship: I'm not able to do the Princess in 2013 (we're taking a DCL cruise at the end of Dec. for my birthday and doing a trip to WDW 2 months later would be pushing it just a little! :lmao: ). But my BFF and I are planning it in 2014, but I had a ...sort of training issue and I thought you amazing ladies could help me out!

I currently run in Nike Shox (which I've always LOVED  ) but since I've started adding distance and building up my speed they've been falling a little short. They don't seem to have the support I need around the balls of my feet or the arch. Any suggestions on some good running shoes? TIA!

Hello Princesses

I have been following along. My goal is to do this in 2014. I am not a runner. I hoping to lose more weight and be able to do a combination of walking and jogging. Enough so that I don't get swept. I have questions for those who are doing long distance training. What do you do about bathrooms? Are you sticking to parks where you can find them? Also I am seeing a lot of talking about compression stockings. Do you wear these during the race or just after? How about the energy foods. How do you carry them? Is there a ratio for how much you eat and when? Any advice for this novice is greatly appreciated. Although of the information I have learned has been from the dis board. Thank you in advance.
