When you travel to a different state, do you think of a dish that is a "must try" because the region is known for it? I wonder what specialties all 50 states are known for? These are a few that come to mind for me:

NY- Pizza

ME- Lobster

NC- BBQ

LA-crawfish & gumbo
TX-BBQ

ARK-?
MS-?

I go to ARK and MS a lot and cant think of a food associated with that state;)

FL-I am a displaced Floridian so I always get things I get here. Publix subs top my list. Then I always get Checkers fries and go to Tarpon and eat some delicious Chicken Souvlaki.

I totally misunderstood the thread.:lmao:

Ok, lets try again...

NY-Pizza and Chinese food
LA-Gumbo, red beans and rice
Washington-Apples
Vermont-Cheese or maple.....ANYTHING

Missouri- BBQ
Maine- Lobster
Texas- Steaks
Alaska- King Crab
illinois=pizza
Pennsylvania= Cheesesteak
Louisiana- gumbo/crawfish

New York: pizza, wings, beef on weck
Pennsylvania: cheesesteak, Pa Dutch food
Florida: orange juice
Vermont: cheddar cheese, maple syrup
Ohio: chili
Maine: seafood
Massachusett: Boston Baked beans, Boston creme pie

Gosh, I can't think of one for Michigan. Not a prepared food anyway.

I know Michigan grows a lot of apples and cherries though, and makes a lot of wine. :)

Don't know about ARK, but for MS--the delta is known for farm raised catfish and bbq. the southern half for shrimp and oysters.

Colorado - Rocky Mountain Oysters

Another one for NY ...bagels!

I've been to CT a million times, dh has family there, and I always think of "grinders" and "Greek Pizzerias" for some reason!

There are some foods I haven't heard associated with states before and some foods I forgot. Neat.

I haven't had a pepperoni roll before. Sounds good!

From home - MI- coney islands, cherries, Vernors, Sanders hot fudge and bumpy cake.:thumbsup2

From my travels -
SC and GA- Low country food like red rice and shrimp and grits.
NC- Calabash style seafood.

Alaska crab/salmon
Nebraska beef
Idaho potatoes
Ohio Buckeyes
Wisconsin cheese
Georgia peaches
Hawaii- macadamia nuts and pineapples

They are really proud of the pork tenderloin sandwich and sugar cream pie here in Indiana, wouldn't have known about them before I moved here though.
